There are not many chuckies left in our area since the one in Portland shut down, this one just had a major update and the dance floor is amazing. Chuckie comes out every hour and does his rounds the games are always working or fixed asap. The food is okay, but the games and prizes are what we come for. Planning a party here is a breeze. Love love love

We had the grandkids over last weekend and we wanted to take them to Chuckie Cheese on a Friday night. The place was packed and super loud as always. I am not fond of the food here but it's always a good place for the grandkids to do some of the rides. The salad bar and pizza was decent . We had a couple of token cards left over from a Chuckie Cheese party in Tacoma. These are great because you don't have to carry and risk fumbling around with the token coins. I was super disappointed the restaurant here in Vancouver didn't accept the cards as they still use the old coin token system.

Fun for the kids and the food isn't bad at all great service. Even a salad bar for us non pizza eating folks!

We ended up staying way longer than planned because it's just that fun -- grabbing drinks, watching people battle it out on the big screens, and soaking in the atmosphere. It's not your typical bar where everyone just stands around. There's always something going on and the vibe is super welcoming and energetic and the owners are so cool! After ordering food and a round of drinks for the group, we sat down at one of the gaming booths, excited to dive in. When I went back to the counter to ask how to start playing, the bartender told me it was $5 per person to access the games and that guests needed to consistently order drinks to maintain access. Honestly, that seemed fair to me. However, things quickly went downhill. I offered to pay the game fee, but was told I needed to buy drinks first. I explained we had just bought drinks--he had literally served us minutes earlier. His response: "You need to have an open tab, and we won't let you play unless you order more." At that point, the experience soured. The staff felt dismissive and unwelcoming throughout the interaction. Despite already spending money, we were denied access to what we came for. We finished our drinks--which, for some reason, didn't count--and left. This was my first visit, and unfortunately, likely my last. (This place had 5-star potential when I first arrived, but the staff interaction left miserable)

We took a different exit through Vancouver Mall, and that's when I spotted a sign that read, "Ice Cream - $1 a scoop." Well... now we're negotiating. One scoop turned into wandering into Round1, and I swear I felt like I accidentally walked into an arcade the size of a small airport. If you're into claw machines, congratulations you've found your homeland. I think they had enough of them to keep a thousand stuffed animals unemployed. Everywhere I looked there were lights flashing, people laughing, prizes dangling just out of reach, and enough games to make my son forget I existed for a while. Then I saw it. The bowling alley. I lit up like a kid who just found out recess got extended. I love bowling, and usually a bowling night means my wallet leaves with a limp. By the time you pay for bowling, shoes, food, drinks, and whatever else mysteriously ends up on the bill, you're wondering if you accidentally financed the lanes. Round1 was different. It's affordable, it's convenient, and it's sitting right inside the mall. That's a dangerous combination... mostly for my free time. The whole place was spotless. The staff was friendly, everything looked modern, and the lighting and giant screens gave it that fun, energetic vibe without feeling over the top. It's not the biggest bowling alley you'll ever see, but honestly, who cares? It's close, it's clean, there's great food just steps away, and after you're done bowling you can lose to your kid in a racing game before watching him dominate a claw machine you swear is rigged. I lived in Vancouver for a while years ago, and now that I'm back, I'm constantly surprised by all the new places popping up. This was one of those surprises that made me smile. I'm not even a huge arcade guy by myself, but with my son? It turned an ordinary shopping trip into one of those afternoons you remember long after the games are over. Some people rate places by comparing them to the biggest and fanciest entertainment centers. I rate them by one simple question: Did I leave happier than when I walked in? The answer here is an easy yes. Round1 isn't just an arcade. It's one of those places where a quick stop somehow turns into, "Wait... we've been here three hours?" Five stars from me. Just don't blame me when you tell your kids you're "just stopping by for a minute" and suddenly you're carrying a giant stuffed banana, holding bowling shoes, and wondering where the afternoon went.

Let's start off with the claw machines, we had a blast (for the most part). The large and medium claws we found we could win before it was time for payout. The mini claws, were just as expensive as the other claw machines, and way harder to win from. As for the arcade section, it was very lackluster. The games were pricey, some didn't work, while others were missing balls or beanbags. It was hard to accumulate enough tickets to get anything substantial from the prize area. The staff we encountered had mixed attitudes. Some were very nice and helpful with resetting the claw machines, while others seemed putout, that they hated working there, and were quite surly. Overall we enjoyed ourselves in the claw area, and would come back just to experience that.

There's just so much to look at and play that it's easy to wander around and keep finding another game you want to try. I know Ground Kontrol is also a bar, but I haven't tried any of the drinks, so I can only speak to the arcade side of things! The game credits are also pretty reasonable. For $20, you get 310 credits, which can actually last a surprisingly long time depending on what you play. I definitely appreciate being able to spend a good chunk of time here without burning through everything immediately. I played Street Fighter, Mario Kart, and a bunch of other arcade games, plus several of the pinball machines. There are so many classics packed into the place that it really does feel like a giant nostalgia trip. So that we would just be around the corner and popping in here would be easy during our stay. Luckily I was able to come in on two different days, and at different times! We got both the night life experience and the day time experience. I think I preferred the day time because it wasn't as busy. Night means cover charge ($4) and bag check. And no kids. You might see some kids during the day. What a cool place, with yummy drinks (no food), and all my favorite arcade games, and then some! They operate on a card system, so no coins needed when you visit. My pinball wizard friend had been traveling arcade ready with coins in her bag, but it turns out they weren't needed. Ground Kontrol supplies free lockers to store your stuff; just follow the instructions and don't forget your code. I learned a lot about pinball during my visits here, and played more pinball than I usually do because of that. I mean, why not? I played one of the newest pinball games, released within weeks of my visit, which was Pokemon themed, and I played one of the more vintage pinball machines, Xenon. And everything in between! It was awesome. $20 loaded onto a card will get you 15ish games, but there is a different cost depending on which game you're playing. I was satisfied with the value and would, and did! come back again. Highly recommend stopping in if you're in the area! Make sure to check out the whole place, as it's bigger than you think and there are more games (mostly pinball) upstairs.

The service is consistently rude, cold, and unprofessional. It's the same group every time, and nothing ever improves. There's no sense of customer service. When I pointed it out, instead of simply fixing it, the response I got was irritation and attitude. Like I was the problem for asking them to correct their own mistake. That kind of interaction is unacceptable anywhere, especially in a place that markets itself as family-friendly. At this point, it's not a one-off, it's a pattern. When multiple visits consistently come with the same poor experience, it reflects a bigger issue with management and expectations. We enjoy bringing our kids here, but the ongoing lack of basic professionalism from the bar staff and the wait staff in the bowling alley, is seriously dragging down the experience. It shouldn't be this hard to get decent service. We all know it all starts at the top.
