We were in the vicinity after dinner in Doylestown and had just finished photographing a very special wildfire sunset on a very special property nearby the restaurant, and after running all around and getting all of my favorite spots and standing there dripping wet from sweat, I looked at my wife and said ice cream look up and find the best in the area and that's how we wound up finding chubby dairy barn. It's kind of funny cause as a distance cyclist. I have been up in this area, but never once what I have thought that this great find was hiding behind a historic building and restaurant. Where an incredibly friendly staff and an incredible array of options once we got inside and the reason for that is the long line and it must be a really good reason for it and I will now confirm it was worth waiting in line The ice cream flavors the options from cups to cones and different kinds of cones to different kinds of sizes all very affordable all delivered with a And when we sat down to enjoy our two different flavors, one was the espresso coffee, and the other was moose tracks. When it's 96 in the shade, it is okay to give yourself permission to cool down and chill out with some quality ice cream. Finding myself in the northern wilds of Bucks County on a visit to Ockanickon Boy Scout Reservation on an unforgiving day under the broiling sun, I wove my way down twisting two lanes into the oasis town of Plumsteadville. The blacktop mirage rippled its shimmer view, making the buildings appear to float. I spied the Plumsteadville Inn, and right next to it, Chubby's. Normally, I don't like ice cream before 5, and prefer not to eat it alone. But, this was an exception. I needed to lower my body temp before I started to act on my hallucinations. I walked in, and the AC hit me hard. Two angels came to my aid, offering to provide me with cool scoops of any flavor I could imagine. Because it was my first time in heaven they handled me a Golden Ruler as a gift (see photo). They said it would help me stay "measured." It was up to me to design the proper elixir to counteract the heat. Intuition led me to Salted Caramel and Black Cherry. It was lovingly served me in a styro cup, for under $5. The angelic smiles as I tossed the change into their prayer jar will not be forgotten. By the time I walked the short distance to my car the ice cream was already melting. I tasted both before I would be required to drink from the cup. Sheer excellence. Cool, creamy, sweet, salty, chunky, chewy - Ambrosia of the Gods. What else do angels serve on a sweltering day? ArcAngel Chubby does not make his own ice cream. It is Nelson's Ice Cream, made in Royersford, Pa. It may not be the bestest ice cream I have ever tasted, but on a day like today when shoes stick to pavement, it came straight from Valhalla. read more

I really enjoyed my experience at Chubby's. It's a really cute place (very rustic) with lots of seating outside. We were there at a random time on a sunny afternoon in April so it wasn't packed, but I could definitely see it being a hot spot on summer evenings. The ice cream was fresh and good, the serving size was ample, and the workers were pleasant. Stopped in for dessert after a really good meal at the Plumsteadville Inn right across the parking lot. Lots of really good flavors and nothing to crazy or oddball either. Sometimes privately owned ice cream shops go a little too far with flavor combinations, so it was nice to see familiar ones. I had Raspberry Cheesecake and my girl had mocha chip flavor. Good ice cream in a nice setting. Prices aren't necessarily cheap, but counter people are very friendly. They don't make their own ice cream, but it is still flavorful. Chocolate chip cookie dough had Zero dough in it (or chocolate chips). I'm surprised they even served it. Overall I'd go again...but wouldn't get the cookie dough. read more

Always out (Imagine no vanilla- soft serve or hand dipped- except organic but costs 2$ more) water ice? sure- we have 1 flavor (Sour Apple). Had a Blizzard-style ice cream but had chunks from the cup being grinded up inside. Milk shake made was great, however the girl made enough for a large, gave me the regular (which I ordered) and threw the rest down the drain. Awesome hand-dipped, locally owned ice cream shop. This it the kind of business you want to support - great product (my fave is the chocolate moose trails), great service, and they go out of their way to support the community. Frequent "celebrity scoop" nights which support local schools and other community groups. There's a large parking lot (pull in at the Plumsteadville Inn and you'll see the building on the right), picnic benches, even a water dish to let your pooch get refreshed too. And monthly cruise nights (right now I think it's the first Monday of the month) where antique cars convene and you can wander around the lot while enjoying your ice cream. read more

Great staff, local business, and best of all amazing ice cream! Went tonight for the first time and I'll never go anywhere else. The dulce de leche was amazing and the double chocolate the kids had had to be finished by me! I also noticed while I was there a little league baseball team came in and the owner asked all of them how their game went. Went here a week ago based on positive reviews. I was very disappointed. The tables were sticky, but there was only nine other couple in the place. There were no trash cans visible to throw away my napkins. The radio was too loud to here each other or place an order. I ordered 2 small sugar cones. The employee that scooped the ice cream didn't seem to know how to pack a cone, as soon as they were handed to me, the scoops fell off the cone. He scooped them again, they fell off as soon as I stepped outside. $10 (for 2 small cones!)thrown away. I tried to clean up my mess, but with no trash cans available, I ended up leaving my dropped scoops on the counter and on the sidewalk. read more

We have been going to Chubby's since it opened a few years ago. The owner and local kids who work there are great. The ice cream, soft serve and water ice are all great. Depending on how much time we have, but there are picnic tables outside to eat and if you want to sit inside, there is limited seating. We normally get something in a cone but any sundae I have had, especially there brownie sundae are delicious. They also make homemade chocolate cookie ice cream sandwiches. Also delicious. I recommend Chubby's to anyone in the area or someone who has dinner and wants a good place for dessert. read more

I went here based on the reviews! I was very disappointed on the service I received today from the young man that was working. He seems in such a hurry to rush us just because more customers walked in the door that he messed up my order and seems annoyed when I needed to correct him on it. The ice cream was ok but not the best. I will continue to go to my favorite ice cream place that is a little further away. That has better ice cream that I know is homemade and truly has better customer service no matter how busy they our!! I will not be recommending this place to my friends. Went this past weekend since it was unusually warm for October. Did not have a good experience. The place was very dirty. The girl at the counter was unhelpful and unpleasant. There was no water ice, however, when asked, the girl explained one of their dishes where one of the ingredients was water ice...but she failed to mention that they did not have any water ice. They also had a very poor selection of hard ice cream that looked melted and refrozen. read more
