Tried Chubbs BBQ in Lewisburg, and overall, I was pretty happy with it. The prices are good, the food was moist, and there's a lot of variety to choose from. I grabbed takeout, and everything was ready really quick, which was a nice bonus.
My biggest complaint was the seasoning. The meat was good, but most of it didn't have a really distinctive flavor--it mostly just tasted like meat. If you're going to season the BBQ, I'd like to see a little more seasoning so you can actually notice it. The BBQ drizzle they had was really good, and honestly, I wish more of that flavor was worked into the meat itself.
Compared to Texas BBQ, where the wood smoke plays a huge role in the flavor, I think Chubbs could benefit from either adjusting the seasoning to complement the smoke or experimenting with different wood selections to bring out more flavor in the meat. I'm also not sure what the meat is sitting or being stored in after it's smoked. I'm guessing possibly beef fat, which might contribute to the heavier "meat" flavor I noticed.
For Central PA, I'd say it's better than some of the other local BBQ spots I've tried, but it's not the best BBQ in the state. That said, there's a lot of potential here. Good prices, moist BBQ, plenty of options, and fast takeout. I'll definitely be back, and I hope to see some of these flavor suggestions incorporated in the future! read more
