I was tattooed by Emily at the cle tattoo convention with a somewhat unorthodox custom request. I had never been tattooed by her before and previously only corresponded by email. She didn't bat an eye at my request and did an amazing job! She seamlessly added to my leg sleeve and now you can't tell what is new and what is old. I did get to meet the rest of the shop and everyone was super friendly and courteous. I will most definitely be making my way to Elyria for more tattoos by Emily! Day 1 - Scheduled Appointment Originally, a friend of mine, my son and I were supposed to go here to get tattoos. Unfortunately, my friend's appointment was rescheduled, which left my son and I to go. As part of our deal, I was to pay for the tattoos as long as he did The "Get Whatcha Get" box. It's $40, you pick from a box of random everyday American iconic ideas, which are just words, and they create a tattoo design based upon that word. You have no input whatsoever, other than where you want it. I picked first and got the word "Sucker," which launched a few cheap shots from my son. However, after he was done, he pulled and got the word "Murshaq." If you don't know what it is, look it up and find out exactly why he was close to tears, considering this way his first tattoo. Lucky for him, the great folks at Chronic, especially Jill, allowed him to pull again. Keep in mind, it's THE "GET WHATCHA GET" BOX, so be PREPARED to ACCEPT what you pull. Well, his second pull was more accepting to him. He pulled a rooster. Jill did a great job on both designs. The tattooing of mine was a little more irritating than I had expected. Tattoos on the rib area. Yay. A little difficult to ignore the pain. But, still, it was a great time and experience for me and my son. So much so, that I went back the next day with my friend who had been rescheduled and got another. Day 2 - Scheduled Appointment & Impulsive Walk-in I have to give it to Tony. He does excellent work. True artist. My friend's tattoo is absolutely beautiful and everything that was expected. And, I really didn't go with the intention of getting another so soon. But, the impulsive me just went for it. And, I have to say, I am and was very pleased. As far as appointments, a deposit is required for any appointment and will be deducted from the final cost of the tattoo, which is priced on a piece to piece basis. read more

Well, they do decent work but they'll rip you off. Put down a $140 deposit that goes toward the price of the tattoo. Tony charges $125 per hour- after getting a mediocre moon and a couple stars tattooed on my back, I was charged $250 including deposit- so $110 out of pocket. so i did my homework when i decided awhile ago to get a tattoo. i knew the ideas i wanted worked together, i just didn't know where to do it. i thought about going out west again, since i knew of some great places from when i lived there. i mean, after all, it's gonna be on you FOREVER, so you want to make sure you get what you want. practicality won over and i started looking at artist's in the land of cleve. there are plenty that are *not* good if you're looking for something very specific and meaningful to you. but there are plenty of "hey, dude, let's go get a tattoo" shops in the area. after doing some research and asking friends that had good art, i checked out chronic. tony is a master at his craft. some of the stencils in his shop of what he's working on (like huuuge back pieces) are intense. i think he specializes in japanese art, but he'll do anything, really. the design i had thought of wasn't japanese, but it is detailed enough for me and specific to what i wanted. it's bright, it's colorful, and he took all the research and images i brought in and melded them together into an image that was specifically how i wanted it. if you've never had one done and are thinking of getting one, let me say this: all my friends that have them said it's no big deal regarding the pain. or if they didn't say "no big deal", they said it's "discomfort" or "annoying" or what not. i think we have different definitions of these words. i was worried because i have an extremely low pain tolerance, which is probably why my definition is different. i didn't cry like a baby (actually, i didn't cry at all), but i sure as hell wasn't enjoying the feeling. at all. yeah. hurt like a mofo. then again, for my first (and probably only) design, it was pretty involved and larger than the normal "hey let's get a tattoo" size, so i knew it'd be a long haul. at least for me. regardless, the main focus is the art. and the art is quality. aside of the art, the place is sterile, it's been around for awhile, and i have several friends that have work done by tony all highly recommending him. for what i had done it only took him an hour and a half, which is pretty impressive. and it didn't take long for him to draw up what i wanted from my homework, either. (cuz i'm a NEEEEERRRRRD.) the stuff i wish would have been a little different, though doesn't break my heart: scheduling was a bit difficult, but i understand sometimes there are mix ups. also, as a first timer, i didn't really know what to expect. i did homework on my own how to prepare, but that wasn't really told to me at the studio. had i not been actively pursuing what to do, i think i would have been in trouble. would i recommend them if someone i cared about was thinking of getting something done here in the clevo area? yes. tony was great. and he put up with anything i could think of to babble about to try to get my mind off of the pain, and that takes a strong man to begin with. ...i'm not even gonna explain all the stupid shit we talked about, but let's just say there are subjects normal me would *NEVER* talk about, but my friend and i needed to keep me talking so i wouldn't be as focused on it. overall, a pleasant experience at chronic. a bit outside of clevo, but worth it for good art. read more
