I came here for my second ever tattoo and I am absolutely blown away by the AMAZING service I got! I am obsessed with my tattoo and I can't stop looking at it. I got one of Kris' flash pieces and was already super excited for it since Chronic Ink is known to be the best of the best in Toronto. Kris was extremely professional and very knowledgeable about what would look best. I trust her completely with her expertise. She was super nice and bubbly during the whole experience and made sure that I was comfortable throughout the entire 3 hours. She geuinely put so much care and effort into the tattoo and it REALLY showed in the art that is now on my arm. I cannot recommend her enough and I'm so impressed by the whole experience! Parking here is going to be annoying since they're doing construction on Eglinton and the road is closed in front of Chronic. It is only a short walk away from Eglinton Station so it's very accessible by TTC. It is a little tricky to find just because the sidewalk ends just slightly past Chronic, but don't let this confuse you! You do not need to cross to the other side! You might miss the door but it's definitely there with a short walk up a flight of stairs. read more

The level of unprofessionalism at front of shop (Sq1) is what turned me off. Emails/ appointment inquiries are not responded to with any sense of urgency/ professionalism (if responded to at all). The "contact us" on their website even seems disabled; when I wanted to contact someone to clarify or make things right. Also, maybe don't speak badly about other customers/ potential customers (reading aloud customer emails/bookings) while we're being inked in ear shot. It is a shame & disservice to some good artists they have, as I'll not be returning. Maybe the shop is so successful that they clearly don't need my business; so I'll take it elsewhere & tell everyone I know. read more

Shout out to Jay, who is one of the newer tattoo artists in the Eglinton location. She was great for both my initial and my touch up appointments. It was my first tattoo and I was petrified. She was very calming and very patient with me. she explained both the process and aftercare in great details during both appointments. Not to mention her art kicks ass. I traveled here in November 2018 from San Francisco to see two Korea-based artists (Pitta + SJ) in a single-day session. I handled the scheduling directly with the artists, but I sent my deposits to Chronic Ink. I was anxious before and during the trip since these were my first tattoos and I'd literally never stepped into a tattoo studio, let alone one in another country. My experience at Chronic Ink was smooth. The studio was clean and busy. I went to the front desk and was greeted by friendly staff who gave me some paperwork to fill out. No reason to be nervous - except that all I had for breakfast were these "Timbits" lol. I started my first of my two sessions around 1pm and ended up finishing everything around 6 or 7pm. I was there pretty much until closing and never felt rushed to leave. I appreciate all the staff and artists there who all had good vibes. I got love for Chronic Ink! read more

Got my first 2 tattoos here in 2018 (one small heart finger tattoo and one small piece on my forearm) they were both extremely overpriced and they refused to touch up the finger tattoo which literally faded within 5 days of having it. My best friend got the same finger tattoo at the same time as me and her tattoo also looks like shit. I know they make you sign a waiver saying no touch ups for anything on the hands but fading within 5 days is ridiculous. It should be a permanent tattoo it was 80$+ I also found the staff to be very stuck up, unfriendly and seemingly judgemental at both the gerrard and the Eglinton locations which only gave me anxiety during the process. Made an appointment with Danny O to get my leg sleeve designed back in September 2018. Although his schedule was super tight, he was able to fit me in since I was flying out from California. He was really easy going and at times when I wasn't too sure about my design or certain things, he would give me his honest opinion and suggestions which I thought was pretty cool. When I first met him, he was a super chill guy to talk to during my sessions with him. One thing that stood out to me was how hard Danny O's willing to work because we were getting close to closing hours during my first session but Danny wanted to get as much detail done as he could since he knew that I'd only be able to fly out once or maybe even twice a year to get some work done. Too bad I didn't have time for to stay but I do appreciate him for offering to do that. Overall it took us about 2 consecutive days and around 14 hrs total. I've had an 80$ deposit put down from a few years back so I decided to walk-in on a whim. Got everything settled and got a quote of 100$-200$ which I thought was reasonable. Then one girl who was at the front desk out of know where says "oh, I would say 200$-300$.." (where the hell did she come from?!) ok, so it changed and that was fine with me since I well know it will depend on the size. My artist was very welcoming and had so much patience with me. (I believe Mack was her name) She brought me about 6 sizes to choose from and I chose the smallest one for my inner forearm. Very simple design which took about 40 minutes. I got hit with an almost 300$ charge for a very small simple tattoo. Point is, they definitely over charge and I will never go back. read more

Following them from their old Yonge location, this new location is a nice upgrade. It's a bit harder to spot with the smaller logo from the outside, but when you see the "we welcome walk-ins" sign next to subway, you know you're there. Upon entering, I was greeted by the receptionist who still remembers me from last summer (nice). I then waited for my artist (guest Robert Zyla) to show me his photoshop edits and he continued reworking them until I was satisfied. It was a bit longer than I would have liked (appointment at 1pm and the needle broke my skin at 3:20pm), but I am thoroughly satisfied with the end result. We had one 10 minute break and a shorter one a bit under 5 minutes. The resident artists were pretty cool; some came to check on Robert's progress, and the booth next to me was doing smaller tattoos and gave thorough aftercare instructions to their clients. This location, like the Markham one, is open concept, but there are curtains for privacy. Relative to the Markham location, Markham seems to have more room to move around. But this location had books! I didn't pick any of them up to read, but I liked the selection. There are two sofas where potential clients do consults with the receptionists. While I was waiting, I watched/heard two of them go down. The receptionists here are great. The studio was packed around 12:40pm when I arrived, and finally died down around 1:30pm. I am now waiting for my tattoo to heal. This was one of the better tattoo shop experiences I've had. Everyone was on task and friendly. I am definitely coming back. Thanks CIT Toronto! read more

I think my nose was pierced and my jewellery was in within 30 seconds and it didn't hurt as much as I was expecting it to at all. How chronic ink manages to find every artistically advanced torontonian and make them an apprentice that turns into a top award-winning artist blows my mind. This is my first time at the toronto location of Chronic Ink and I absolutely love it. Super easy to find, super easy to sign in (front desk staff are really nice) and the place is well organized. Each artist has a station and there are curtain things that can be used to create a private space. One thing I notice about chronic is that each artist/apprentice helps each other - during their breaks, they will wander to each other's stations and give them advice or encouragement. They're like a huge fam, and that's a great environment to have at work. I follow a lot of the artists and apprentices on instagram and definitely see how great they grow - each artist has a different style and definitely spend a lot of their time working on their art career. I was tattooed by Danny (@dannyo_tattoo on instagram) and his attention to detail is absolutely insane; he doesn't try to rush anything, which I've had to deal with before at different places. Patrick, another artist also came over and helped give pointers on the tattoo shading & even stepped in a few times to tattoo on me, which was cool (I only ever see that tag team shit on ink master lmao). I really enjoyed being tattooed by Danny because he had a super light hand and he excels in so many different styles; he's definitely going to be someone's tattoo sensei one day. (plus he's super cute too) All the other artists have their art up on their boards and it's definitely cool to see because you can walk around and get inspired for your next tattoo. I don't think there's one artist that works at chronic that doesn't exceed my expectations. This is specifically for the Midtown location: Prior to visiting this location, i had gotten both piercings and tattoos at the downtown and markham location and had nothing but incredible experiences. I wanted to get one of my lobe piercings downsized and the downtown location was full so the representative on the phone asked if I would be okay going to the midtown location. I had never been there before but why not, right? Wrong. I had the worst experience. When I arrived the piercer took me back to the room and asked which piercing i was getting downsized. I told her my third lobe. She looked at it and said she'd be right back. She returns very quickly with a post (she had not measured my ear or anything, but I was giving her the benefit of the doubt in my head that she was experienced and could just tell what size I needed by looking at my ear). She puts on gloves and proceeds to take out my current piece and puts the new one in. I did not see this new piece be sanitized. She just pulled it out of a ziploc bag and put it in my ear. Now at this point she is trying to put the top piece onto the post but it isn't going in (because the post is too small - I would later find out). She asks me to lie down and then squeezes my ear to flatten it out to get the jewelry into the post. My ear is hurting really badly at this point but I'm (again) trying to think of it positively that it's just because she was manipulating my ear for some time. I pay and leave (total service time: 4 minutes). From my previous experiences at chronic it takes 10-15 minutes just to clean the jewelry but... I guess not this time? As i'm walking out of the studio my ear begins to throb. I go to feel my ear and it is firm (because the new post is literally squishing my ear). At this point, I am very aware that the post that is in my ear is too small and I need to go back and get a longer one. I go back inside the studio and tell them it throbbing and that the post is too small. The piercer seems to be annoyed telling me that it's not ready to be downsized (even though i've had this lobe piercing for 6 months) and that it shouldn't be swelling. I give her my original post from my purse and she doesn't clean it, she just puts gloves back on and puts the original post back in my ear. My ear is swollen, its throbbing and in a lot of pain. She tells me that it's "weird" that my ear did that and doesn't realize or acknowledge her mistake. I went home and sanitized my ear with saline solution but it is clearly infected as there is blood and puss coming out of it. Overall, I left with an infected ear, wasted $16.95 on a post I will never be able to use and a very poor experience. I will never recommend this location as this was unhygienic and unprofessional. Extremely RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL!!! I went in yesterday to get my lobes pierced. The staff made faces at me and we're extremely judgemental, I assume because it was going to be my first piercing. I did not feel comfortable letting them pierce me or giving them my money. Their condescending attitude did not inspire confidence. I left and found a better place where I was treated with respect. The layout of their new location also was a little too open for my liking, everything was happening in the same room. Not sure if they offer private rooms, but it seemed like the staff want you to share their mentality or leave, so I doubt it. Overall, I would NEVER recommend this place. They don't seem to put the customer's needs first, and they certainly don't care about professionalism. I walked up the inaccessible stairs into a huge busy room with lots of stations with people having tattoo's done. From behind the desk at the top of the stairs, the girl I talked to looked at my tattoo and immediately said it was too dark to do anything to, and it would have to be lasered. Convenienetly for them, this is a service they sell. I walked out confused, as I have seen lots of tattoo cover ups. I went to Black Line Studio at the shops at Don Mills. They said nothing about laser. Doug did a superb job in a nice quiet room. His banter was great and he kept me at ease. . So I've never gotten a tattoo before but I'm so glad that my friends introduced me to Chronic Ink. Having been here a few times to watch my friends get their tattoos and now finally getting one of my own, I can say that this place is AMAZING. The staff are super chill and friendly you could pretty much talk to them about anything (shout-outs to you Danny and Patrick!). All the artists working there are always supporting each other and showing off their works whilst asking for personal feedback and how they can further improve their work. You can definitely tell that they genuinely care about their craft and love what they do. I was also low-key nervous about getting my first tattoo so I may have been a little rowdy but they were really patient with me despite my few outbursts. They also play a variety of decent music in the background as well to make you feel more at ease (or lit). I'm definitely going to come back here for my future tattoos. Staff, service and quality are all a 10/10 in my books! read more

The artist was late to my appointment and totally unprepared. Despite being sent multiple reference images in advance, she was clearly unfamiliar with what I had requested. When I discussed aspects of the reference images she was unsure what I was talking about and I had to pull up the images on my own phone, she didn't even have a copy. She then proceeded to send me away as she drew some options for me. She asked me to come back in 20 minutes and it ended up taking nearly an hour for her to do this. During the appointment her attitude was quite cold. Mind you this was a $500 tattoo. The quality of her artwork was pretty good but it's not worth the price to have an unprofessional artist. Went to Chronic Ink for my first tattoo. From my initial consultation to the final tattooing, the staff were amazing! Explained the costs involved, whom will be tattooing me, and the length it will take. The nice touch is the email and text reminders of your appointment and what is required to be done prior. Even though people said it was a little pricey, I look at quality of work. You get what you pay for and art on your body is nothing to scimp on. Also, it was busy and many were having another tattoo done, so these customers must know a good thing when they see it. My artist was Rayna. Amazing, extremely calming, detailed oriented, and did the changes you want. You can go in with an idea, but come out with a masterpiece. Something that no one else would have. I highly recommend Chronic Ink. I am planning my next tattoo. read more

I've had two piercings done by Becky and have come in another time to replace a piece of jewelry. Becky is absolutely amazing! I've never felt so comfortable with a piercer before. While Becky is fantastic, the rest of the experience at Chronic Ink is not. It's a very high traffic shop. I've had to wait over an hour and a half just to find out if she was even able to do the piercing I wanted. I purchased a plain curved barbell from them when mine fell out. They charge $20 to install their own jewelry, which I've never heard of before. For changing jewelry purchased elsewhere, sure. But any other studio I've been to/know about, free or $5 is the norm for their own jewelry. It was supposed to be internally threaded. When I got home, I went to put it in and found out it was external (I was surprised they would even carry externally threaded jewelry). I mentioned it the next time it was in and it was shrugged off. I personally prefer a bit more of a private experience when I can have a chance to talk to the piercer and am not made to feel like an inconvenience. So though Becky is absolutely amazing, I'd never go back to Chronic Ink. read more

Tattooing is a service and your reception is in the customer service industry. Should probably get some pointers on how to treat people if you want people to come back or get good reviews. You know there's something wrong with a place after they make you wait for an hour, and then when you say you're going to leave, they try to blame YOU for the artist being late. They told me he was going to show up any minute but by the time I left, I'm pretty sure he didn't even make it since he was no where in sight. Not one person, throughout my wait apologized or addressed me while I waited. The artist gets paid per hour and considering the amount they charge, you think they'd be a little more considerate of a paying customers time. This happened at the Eglinton location. Not sure how it works at the other ones but I'd say stay away. read more

I was pierced four times by Becky at Chronic Ink Midtown. My tragus, eyebrow, and forward helix all turned out well, but I had a very negative tongue (venom) piercing experience with her and will not be going back to her for future piercings. During our initial consult, she originally thought she would have to point the bars for the piercings outward towards my teeth, but decided at the last second (and by "last second" I mean the clamp was on my tongue) to change the angle to point inward. She pierced through my tongue at a very sharp forward angle (so the top balls were near the middle of my tongue and the bottom balls were near the tip) because apparently that was necessary for some reason, I forget why. Now Becky, the shop's aftercare brochure, and the APP website all told me that I should only experience moderate bleeding for 5 days post-piercing. Mine continued to bleed for TWO WEEKS - I ended up having to go to the emergency room for injections to slow the bleeding long enough for a blood clot to form; multiple APP certified and other experienced piercers (based on both pictures and in-person consults) told me this was because of continuous tearing and re-tearing due to the extreme angle of the piercings. I asked Becky and she was unconcerned about the angle. I was told I would be able to get my bars downsized at the 2 and 4 week marks. At one point Becky thought she would have to remove the piercings as they were not healing, but ended up telling me I could safely stay the course. I did not get the bars sized down til week 5, and I had two large, intractable, and unsightly lumps of scar tissue in front of each piercing by that point. Finally I went to Exotix where they advised me that although maybe the scar tissue would eventually go down, the piercings would always appear to have a permanent lump in front of them due to the presence of a bar under a thin layer of skin created by an extreme angle. I had one of their piercers look at my tongue and he said that a) it was possible to perform venom piercings more or less straight through the tongue with my anatomy, and b) the only possible explaination for my piercings having been done at an angle so sharp was that the piercer was so terrified of maybe hitting a vein that they pushed the needle through in a trajectory that was both *unnecessarily* far away from the vein and just overall damaging. He also said that the constant movement from my extremely long bars (1&1/8 in. compared to the 7/8 - 1 in. that venoms apparently should be done with) just wore on my newly forming fistula, causing tearing and bleeding and scarring. Now my venoms have been taken out, and I have to wait 2 months for this scar tissue to fade enough to have them done again. So for $188+tip and 5 weeks of pain and medical scares, all I have to show for it are two lumps on my tongue that look like some kind of infectious disease, and two long bars I won't be using again. If Becky was so paranoid about hitting my veins that she felt she had to pierce me at a painful and unadvisable angle, I wish she would have just told me she wasn't comfortable performing the piercings, or that I wasn't a good candidate for them based on my anatomy. Looking back - I remember feeling a wave of anxiety as the clamp went on my tongue, and soothing myself by thinking "it's okay, Becky is a professional. She would never do anything to damage my body. She would never agree to do this if she wasn't confident in it going well." I am deeply disappointed that this was not the case, but I have learned my lesson and will be asking for second opinions when determining the potential viability of any of my piercings from now on. read more

More like a car factory then an artistic service. Never had this experience with my other tattoos. Advised they would take 3 weeks to get me a sketch based on info and images and suggestions I sent. Three weeks go by and they just sent one of my images back saying they are just going to duplicate it. But that is not what I asked for... So they really don't like creating something custom I guess. I even offered to give the artist more time to create something and no response. It seems lazy and unprofessional just to copy an image if I advised not to copy exactly. So strange- likely they will not return my deposit although I gave more than 72hrs notice in writing to cancel given that an original sketch was not provided in 3 weeks as was promised. They are probs really great at copying and duplicating replicas. So disappointing. read more

Went here to upgrade my nostril jewelry and told the piercer that I can only heal full with gold. Somehow I let myself get convinced that Titanium would be better, in fact the piercer insisted that I should use Titanium. A few days after my jewelry was changed my nostril became swollen and warm to the touch and was also oozing pus. I take very good care of my skin and always follow piercing guidelines as such I knew that I had gotten infected at that shop or was having a terrible reaction to the choice of jewelry. This infection led me to the doctor twice. I went back to the shop to explain what happened and of course no one took any responsibility or showed any concern. I ended up having to purchase another pair of gold studs as I had a double nostril piercing. I did not even get a discount given what they put me through and to make matters worse, the front staff was quite rude. Save your time and money and go somewhere where your business is valued. read more

I went to the downtown location for piercings (one conch and 2 upper lobes - 1 each ear), and things weren't too bad until they were. Last week, I went back there to have the rings "resized" and what was my surprise to learn I wasn't getting what I clearly expressed I wanted from the start. First of all, the upper lobes' rings are too big as they don't have the right size. Ok that I didn't have to pay for them. Until that point, fine. They were just being professional. But when we got to the conch ring things changed. When I had them done I was told - by both the receptionist that helped me to choose the jewelry and the artist Gina - that in 4-6 weeks I should return for "resizing". Gina dismissively said I would pay about $15 bucks for the job. What do you understand by the word "resize"? I understand that it is taking something and making it smaller or bigger or larger or whatever. But to them is changing the rings and charging you extra. Worst of all, according to the other artist who saw me last week, the new conch ring will be dangling, and not tight as I told them I wanted. Why would I pay $160 for a jewelry to have it dangling? Nonsense. Summary: they want me to pay extra $30 for the new conch ring in the wrong size. I contacted them through their website last Sunday and haven't received a call or email until now. No wonder! Why weren't they transparent and clear before I had the piercings done? Omission. That's why. Definitely, I DO NOT recommend this place to anyone who values transparent and satisfactory customer service. read more

I never write reviews but my husbands tattoo is very disappointing. Unfortunately instead of getting his tattoo in Las Vegas (where he currently lives) he chose to get another "good" tattoo from chronic ink. After multiple emails sent back and forth explaining concept and size, Mackenzie, the tattoo artist, still tried to make the tattoo larger than what he wanted (for $$?). During the session she had to ask for help from another artist bc she was so lost. My husband regretted coming to the shop in that moment. After she was done, she didn't even show my husband the tattoo and quickly covered it up. Not even two days after the session, his entire tattoo aggressively scabbed up almost as if it was infected. We are used to getting tattoos and knew that this wasn't normal. Now that the scabs are coming off, this is what he was left with (picture below). Inside the triangle was SUPPOSED to be a galaxy?!? Worst place ever. Save your time and money. First time i went there when they were in pacific mall, piercer tried to pull off taking a phone call while piercing my belly button. Decided to try and give them a second chance after all these years. Emailed for a consultation to get a tattoo to cover up some old self harm scars. They asked for some picture references to assess the condition of my skin. After that i have gotten no response after emailing again 3 times. Tried to call. No response. Completely unprofessional. Don't even bother with them. Seems like a bunch of imbeciles run their email and phone service so i can't imagine who their tatto artists are read more

The people that pick up the phone are absolutely terrible. They make you feel stupid and are extremely condescending if you're not knowledgable with respect to tattoos. I've called in twice now to try to make a booking and have both times have been unsuccessful due to the employee belittling me, cutting me off, and rushing me off the phone. Shocking. First session with Sebastian at the Ellington location. He was over an hour and a half late starting the tattoo, and had even admitted he just got home from a long flight and was feeling jet lagged. Not going to lie it made me a bit nervous. Despite that, once we finally got started everything went well. It all looked good, fast forward to the second session. I arrive 10 minutes past my appointment time, and the reception informs me that Sebastian is running behind. No problem I say, do you know how long by any chance? They let me know he was basically right there and would start setting up his station... over half our goes by and I am still waiting. I have seen 3 people come in for walkins and already get to go and discuss and get tattooed with an artist. I look over to see if I can spot him, and sure enough I see him at the station sitting and talking with someone... watched this for over 10 minutes before I decided to I ask the reception again, they explain he is getting the stencil ready. I explain there isn't a stencil because this is my second session and it's already on my body. They go over to talk to him and he comes to me to say "sorry it takes a while to clean"...I'm thinking but you are already late and I just saw you talking? Anyway, he finally cleans the station. By this point it's been 45 minutes, and I am frustrated with the way the first appointment went, his comment, and now this. So I let him know I will be going elsewhere to get it finished. He gives me excuses and said things are never on time. Then maybe you shutouts tell people to come an hour later to their scheduled appointment, or not take appointments? Needless to say this was such a disappointing and frustrating experience and I will be advising people heavily against this artist and shop. read more

Visited the downtown location (Gerrard and Yonge) while in town for the weekend. Walked in to possibly get a small hand tatt with a buddy. After explaining I was in town for 2 more days was referred to another location because "none of the artists are comfortable with doing hand tattoos". Fine ok. The front desk gentleman then proceeds to explain to me how hand tattoos are hard because of the skin being thin and how the one artist he's trying to refer me to doesnt like to do them unless you have an entire sleeve WTH??? I didn't know whether to be annoyed or amused at the fact that you're sending me to another location 45 mins away to what seems to be the ONLY tattoo artist they have that does hands (its like i'm looking for Yoda or something) and also that you're talking to me like I have no clue about tattoos (mind you I have a 3/4 sleeve dragon on my left arm; a bio-organic armored sock on my left leg and foot where the skin is OH so thin; a Cobra backpiece; and multiple tattoos on my chest and right arm). To top that off he quotes me $150-$200 for a 1-1.5" Harley Quinn symbol on my left hand between the thumb and forefinger....really dude?? I get its Canada and you're downtown but COME ON!! I will say the facility was nice and the location is really convenient but I will just stick to my artist in the states or do a little more research for another shop in the Toronto area. read more

The quality of the work was great, but the place itself was extremely unprofessional. To start, they did my tattoo without an actual signature on the waiver. There was a space asking if I had my id checked which I didn't fill out - because nobody checked it. Given that I'm 19, and the minimum age is 18, I should definitely have been asked for ID. In addition, the signature on the waiver stated that someone had gone through the risks with me - which nobody had. I had written a "C" before reading the fine print, then scratched that out which I guess they took as a signature? Regardless of whether that was the case or not - nobody went over risks or any other details of the procedure, or checked my ID. On top of that, the quote was 220-300 and when I got there I was informed that it would actually cost $420. Having already paid a deposit I was stuck. Either they take my $80 (+ tax) deposit and I get nothing or I pay the extra - but I definitely would not have paid the $420 considering my other quotes from other shops were about the same as my original one here. I don't understand how suddenly it cost so much more before they even started the tattoo. While the quality of the tattoo itself was good, the place was absolutely awful and I would never return Edit: I talked to the manager about everything and it just added to the unprofessional and disappointing experience. He had no interest in listening to my perspective on the situation, all he wanted to do was defend his shop. Everything I said was completely disregarded. I felt more attacked than helped - he even described my feelings as "buyers remorse" rather than a legitimate complaint about the price being raised over $100 over the highest end of the estimate originally given. In addition, he said that because I loved my tattoo they had done their job, as though great customer service is not in the job description. I'd prefer to go somewhere that considers keeping their clients happy part of the job. He also tried to make me feel as though I should be happy that the 90 day guarantee and free touchups still applies to me, as though being an unsatisfied customer should impede on their guarantee.
