Nick had the good thought at our home based wedding located on the Great South Bay to drop the flaps on the tent when the wind picked up at the end of the ceremony. We didn't have to tell him - he anticipated what we needed for the event to be a success. That is Nick's secret - his experience and cooking expertise makes him anticipate your needs before you do! His crew of 6 were so helpful and caring. Every guest told us it was the best wedding they had been to. Why? Great food, caring help, smart plentiful choices. When the great evening was done, the backyard was left spotless with almost no reminders a great event occurred there. Conveniently located off of 495, this 3 floor hotel is modern & very clean. Apparently it was…read morerenovated in 2011 but it felt like it was more recent. I had low expectations going in but was pleasantly surprised with all the decor and amenities in the lobby and rooms. Positives: - clean clean clean! So important! - 24x7 minimart on first floor with all the food, snacks, treats and travel stuff - quiet rooms, neighbors had loud music but once we shut the door we couldn't hear it - beds were very comfortable and soft - sheets were super soft! No scratchiness! Wish there was separate top sheet. Instead it's just the comforter with sheet/case around it - the two types of pillows are such a great idea! The soft had down feathers (I think? At least It felt like it) and was nice to have choice which one to rest your head on - complimentary keurig (bring your own kcups if you want better coffee and sugar as well. They give you one packet with wood stirrer) - mini fridge held a lot of drinks and snacks and racks are removable - microwave: perfect for families with kids (hit the mini mart for ramen, pizza, or Mac & cheese) - large 55 inch tv - pull out rolling table with chair - we had a double queen room and it was a little tight in there between the beds and other furniture - charging charging ports + regular sockets bedside table and other sockets throughout room - 2 mirrors: 1 full length and the other half mirror above bench and charging area - Large bathroom with large standing shower (no tub), loved the big mirror with great lighting also includes hairdryer and wall pumps for soap & lotion, shower pumps (shampoo, conditioner, soap) - water pressure not so great but was always warm/hot - our floor had washer and dryer $3.50 and the vending machines have soap and dryer sheets! Negatives: - window only opens a couple inches for fresh air - weird smelling hallways... like too much cologne/air-spray, very overwhelming when you enter hallway - scratchy little towels - cheap TP, bring your Charmin! - lots of duck poop outside on walkways, they do a good job spraying it down often but it's a full time job! - limited parking especially when there are multiple events on weekends - no safe in the room, is that not a thing anymore? Limited space issue I think? You can purchase breakfast with your reservation for $40. The Sonoma Grill is attached to lobby and is open very early at 6am and has a fantastic breakfast (see my other review). Kids under 12 eat for free (although I was unaware until after, so we ended up paying) They also have a gym, business center, and free shuttle as well as ADA/accessible guest rooms! So one evening as I was leaving for work, grabbed my coffee and was about to leave, one of their employees stopped me, and said that I have to pay for the coffee, told her that it's for free and I had been getting it for two nights; she said, not today. I left without it and not going to pay for it. Next, my 3rd nights stay, I got a mail under my door about their policy of cleaning the room. So next day when I got back from work after my night shifts, house keeper just opened my door while I was getting undressed to shower, she apologized and I said to her come back in 20mins. She never showed up, I waited until 9;30 am & I went to sleep bcos I have to work same night. At about 2:30 pm, they started banging on my door, I told them that I don't need anything now, they went and called the manager or someone, who insisted that I must leave the room for cleaning, I did. After that, I cld not fall asleep again until it's time to get ready for work at 5pm. So disappointed and wanted to move but I had only couple days; just have to deal with them. So I noticed after that incidents, my room was-completely cleaned before my arrival every morning at 8;30! So you cld do that every morning without disturbing me??????. I don't want to think of staying here again, they lack customer service, they just run the hotel anyhow. The facility looks very nice and calm in my opinion.

Anthony was enthusiastic to work with us and to make a fun menu that we could be excited about (ex: Reuben empanadas, spicy tuna wontons, rice balls & watermelon feta skewers). Our food was amazing, we got so many compliments from our guests! I typically don't enjoy food at weddings but loved everything we had. Working with his team was such an easy process, I could not recommend them enough.

The other high rating doesn't even have a valid name (probably another employee). Prices are ridiculous. Food is maybe a something you would eat at a bad hospital. When the Board of Health came to our company they shut down the grill and refused to cook food. Because they knew they would fail the inspection because food is stored improperly at the grill. And the Health Inspector informed that they are not supposed to shut down the grill or any other stations while they are there. By 12 pm they run out of a lot of food. I will say a select few of the workers are nice. The others make it seem like you are bothering them if you ask a question or want something cooked at the grill. Some of them barely know how to make an egg sandwich. In the afternoon you can go to buy something and the cashiers are no where to be found. And this is just not from one of my visits but from many. When they first came to my company I thought it was going to be a good change, boy did I think wrong! They only reason why people still buy food there is because we have no choice, they are the only ones there (unless you bring lunch). We hired them for a company party and had many issues with them. We ran out of food. Then things that were agreed to when I booked the party I had to argue with them just to get, I wanted them to hold up to their agreement. Which they did, however we ran out of that food also. Being there first year at my company it was a surprise how mismanaged it was.

I wasn't going to write a negative review initially (because I am a supporter of small businesses…read moreand I don't like bashing anyone's livelihood), but since Chef Karl won't respond to the email I sent (and a follow up email) where I politely expressed our dissatisfaction with the expensive 'Hamptons style' dinner experience he provided, I'm going to share our recent experience. We contracted with Chef Karl for my wife's surprise surf & turf dinner celebration for 14 people. Chef Karl was to arrive between 4:00 and 4:30 to do all that was necessary to prepare the meal for a 7:30 start. He arrived at 6:45 citing traffic issues yet his server, who was coming from the same Hamptons location, arrived on time. The stress he was under to get the meal out was evident and it cast a backdrop of stress or tension over the experience. The appetizer he served was not what we contracted for - he must have forgotten to bring the correct food ingredients. We believe he scrambled and decided to use part of the steak that was meant for the turf portion of the main entree as the appetizer. We believe this because two of the guests who could not eat lobster (the chef knew this well in advance) only received four small and thin slices of steak as their main entree (we expected them to receive their own steak given that everyone else had close to two pound lobsters plus a similar amount of steak). Other guests gave their portions of steak to those two guests so that they could have a reasonably sized meal. The salad he served was also not what was contracted for. The meal was to be served with a potato mash and an au jus. Because he was late, the potato mash was served a third of the way into the meal - and dry. No au jus. The server made her way around the table plopping a spoonful of mashed potatoes on each guest's plate. Had he arrived reasonably on time, the potatoes could have been plated along with the main entree - and with the au jus. He ran out of the vanilla ice cream topping for the chocolate cake and two or three of the guests received their dessert plate with a melted ice cream drizzle poured from the bottom of the ice cream container. I've hired a few chefs in the past for private dinner celebrations and I have attended dinner parties of the same arranged by friends and business colleagues. Each time, the chef engaged with the guests, told stories, described what he/she was serving, etc. We had almost none of this with Chef Karl and the only time during the meal that he engaged with us was when I reached out and asked him about one of his celebrity clients. Mistakes are totally understandable - I have no issues with that - but he should have owned his mistakes and offered to make it all right. Instead, he offered not a syllable of an explanation about any of the menu changes nor serving issues and he seemingly expected that he could smooth it all through unnoticed. Not cool. Oh, and he charges, in advance, a minimum gratuity of 20%.

He was so easy to work with and helped me create a menu that appealed to a group of 10+ girls. To say the food was extraordinary would be an understatement. The salad course was so light and a great start to the meal. The pasta was phenomenal and the steak was hands down the best steak I've had in my life. I wish I took a picture of the chocolate lava cake but I was too eager to jump in and eat. There wasn't a clean plate in the house. We splurged and added on wait staff that Karl provides. She was so attentive and fun. She made sure the wine was flowing (it was a bachelorette party after all!) and was quick to clear plates without interrupting the party. We all plan to use them again in the future. It was the highlight of our weekend and the best home chef experience I have had.
