I've been wanting to visit the Antigravity Lab for 5-6 years now, but you know... pandemic. The only class that fit my schedule was the pilates one, which I've never tried before, so when the instructor was sorting the class into regulars and beginners, I was a little confused about how I should identify. It's been years since I did Antigravity, but I still remember many of the moves and cues. The actual studio is easy to find. There's plenty of space to store belongings and restrooms in which to change in and shower. This particular instructor was very New Yorker--stern with a sarcastic attitude, which I personally find amusing, and I know it's all from a place of keeping all the students safe. Class was fun overall, and I would definitely come back again next time I'm in NYC. read more

Took my first class here with my friends and we had a blast. We were lucky we got the creator of the harrison silk teaching our class. The instructor was very thorough and explained all the poses clearly and he demonstrated before having us do it. He also came around the class and adjusted the people who needed adjusting. I would definitely recommend people to try this studio. the studio itself is small but very clean and organized. I felt like i was in good hands there. read more

I was introduced to AntiGravity yoga at Crunch earlier this year and I quickly fell in love! So I left Crunch thinking I'd like to check out the studio itself, where AntiGravity all started. I'm already not impressed and I haven't even attended a class yet. That's right, I missed a class. 100% my fault for poor planning, true. But holy penalties. If you miss a class, expect to not only lose an awesome fitness opportunity, the class credit / money you paid for, but also an additional late fee (not to be confused with the class you paid for). For comparison, if you miss a doctors appointment, you lose the opportunity for your check up, they may charge you the price of the appointment (that your insurance would have paid for), but they definitely won't charge you beyond that as if they suffered some additional loss by not having you present. Unless this studio and its instructors are out-of-this-world fabulous, I'm not renewing my class pass. read more

Shortly after purchasing a 10-class pack, I was promoted at work which came with the double edged sword of lots of work travel. Unfortunately, it meant less time at home and even less time to work out at home. In a hugely insulting way, I was informed that the class-package I had purchased had expired after only SIX MONTHS. One can only think--why do classes expire in the first place? It's not milk in the fridge, it's a class, that I paid good money for. Seeing as the Antigravity Lab does not serve as a primary source of cardio or even muscle building (mostly a way to relax and have a little fun), I chose not to use the classes on the opportunities I had to work out, waiting for a weekend to approach in which I had no travel to use my classes as a way to wind down. Six months is an absurd deadline to use up 10 classes that do not serve as a great workout in the first place. Not to mention, I was kicked in the face by a less experienced student since they pack so many people into one studio. I would not suggest purchasing any packages as they are entirely inflexible with their expiration policy and it is easy to lose out on a lot of money. read more

Love love love this place! The deal for first time students is such a deal and does great at hooking you in! It's conveniently locates and accessible in Midtown, and their classes are offered at great times. I've just finished my 3rd class with Lori, who is the best. She is always energetic, positive, caring, and fun. Her classes are always so fun and challenging, but without intimidation. I like to think of this class as yoga with props x . It's so peaceful and you essentially are giving your body a massage for an hour. Will definitely continue going every other week! read more

Fantastic! Most challenging aerial class as it is an actual workout. I'm an avid aerial practitioner, I'm familiar w all the fun flips. However , the advanced aerial class I took here focused more on controlling more delicate movements through slower transitions and postures. So so awesome. I think people interested in trying this out should know that this isn't yoga. I was looking for a way to expand my practice and add a different style of yoga in the mix but even though the class is loosely based on a regular Vinyasa yoga class structure and often they use yoga terms for the poses, that's where the similarities end. It's billed as yoga supported by the hammock but it's all acrobatic work. I really wish that instead of calling it Antigravity yoga that they would at least include the terms 'gymnastics' or 'acrobatics' in the Fundamentals class description because I wouldn't have bothered. I also wouldn't call the Fundamentals class a class for beginners unless they would spend more time in the beginning with everyone on the basics. I've been doing yoga regularly for a couple years and thought that I would be ok in the beginner class. However, I really hurt my lower back - it's been a week and a half and I'm still in a lot of pain that seems to only be getting worse (too much pain to do as much actual yoga as I was doing before so that sucks too). I do want to interject that my instructor was really fun, high energy, and very excited to teach us which is what you want in a teacher. The woman at the front desk was also really nice and helpful. But if you want a yoga class this isn't the place for that at all and again I wish they would include gymnastics in the description so I would've known that it wasn't what I was looking for. read more

I brought a Living Social voucher for AntiGravity Aerial LAB and the prerequisite class Fundamentals, that is the gateway to all other classes, has been completely booked every time I checked. I have been looking at least 1 month in advance at every point, as with my work schedule, that's all I can plan for. I've contact Living Social customer service, who was completely unhelpful, and also left 2 messages with AntiGravity Aerial LAB, which I have not received any response back at all. Since they require Fundamentals, they should either 1) offer more of this class so I can then proceed to access other classes and 2) offer an extension on the voucher because they are unable to provide the promised services within the agreed time-frame. Without taking the Fundamentals class, I feel it becomes a liability issue as people can get hurt without 1st knowing the basics of antigravity yoga. This also becomes a consumer issue as I already paid for the class. I rate them 1 star for their lack of responsiveness, which in turns demonstrates that they are unable to work with customers. If I hear back from them and they are willing to work with me, I will delete or change my rating but I'm currently unimpressed by their responsiveness. Life-changing for me though it may not be for everyone. The keyword here is DECOMPRESSION. Because of the work I do, i've been dealing with neck and back pain for a long time. Going to class makes all the difference in the world. It absolutely does require a certain amount of coordination to get the hang of it but if you commit to at least three classes, your brain starts to naturally figure it out. This studio is the best! Everyone here is so friendly, and all of the instructors have been amazing. I've taken a variety of classes at AntiGravity, and Aerial Yoga is definitely my favorite. One thing that I love about the studio is that the instructors really get to know their students, so they are always able to gear their classes to the appropriate level. The class size is pretty much perfect. And the nighttime classes often end up having a great view of the sunset, which looks even prettier when you're upside down! Also, the music is usually great. I always leave feeling like I got an amazing workout, but I also always feel refreshed & relaxed! The Aerial Yoga class is a combination of stretching, strength, and a lot of fun tricks! The hammock allows you to work on some yoga poses with a little extra support. And of course, it lets you do a ton of cool things upside down! read more

If you want to learn Antigravity Yoga from the people that invented it, then this is the place to go. Christopher Harrison developed this practice and this is his studio. Instructors who teach aerial yoga at other studios get their training here, and you will often see teacher trainings going on when you visit the studio. They used to be housed at Om Factory in the same building, but now they offer classes in their own space, this is not to be confused with the OmFactory, where they offer a totally different style of Aerial Vinyasa. All of the instructors at the Lab have been trained by Christopher and this is a unique practice, different from most other aerial yoga studios that I have attended. Antigravity yoga is a great workout. It is a fun combination of yoga, dance, acrobatics and Pilates. You will stretch into positions you never thought possible, your core will get a beating, your butt will get lifted and you will amaze yourself as you flip upside down with grace and ease. I called and without hesitation they extended the deal for a month and I booked right away! YAYYY! Today I was in the Flying Fitness class with Jill. She is excellent! Aerial yoga is my new favorite workout, thanks to this studio! I initially came to the open level class with a friend on a Classpass trial, and I liked it so much that I bought a Classpass membership to continue. I've been going once every 1-2 weeks for a few months now, and I love how helpful and encouraging Lorianne is. The class goes at the perfect pace, and the routine is different each time I go. It's a great mix of relaxing and challenging moves that are great for improving flexibility, strength, and balance. After my first few classes I did feel a bit dizzy and lightheaded from the inversions, but it got less intense as I went to more classes and got more used to being upside down. I rave about AG to my friends and recommend it to everyone! (The studio also has a dog!!!) Giving 4 stars instead of 5, though, because there are limited spots for Classpass members so it's always a bit of a struggle to grab those before they're filled. read more

this place definitely took me out of my comfort zone. i took the fundamentals open level class and it was honestly great. the instructor , Christie I believe, was very nice even though I had no idea what I was doing. She helped me out with some of the poses, especially toward the end when they got difficult. Because this was my very first class and I was in a class with people who had already done this before, I felt very out of place. My instructor was helpful in that she made adjustments when needed but at times I felt kinda pressured when I didn't feel completely comfortable in doing them, especially with poses where you're completely upside down, holding on to absolutely nothing. I think this is supposed to be a sort of relaxing class ( once you get used to it ) but my inherent fear of dying and falling made me super tense the entire time which was not a good combination with being upside down. Before your first visit, note that there are bathrooms where you can change. if you're late by 5 minutes, they won't let you in. don't wear jewelry or anything that pokes out so that you don't risk for fabric ripping. the studio itself is kinda small, so if you do risk bumping into other people so be wary of your surroundings!! read more

It's all fun and games until you're injured... I attended a Fundamentals class earlier this week (Monday) and was excited to change up my workout and yoga routine with an aerial class. The Fundamentals class is "open-level," meaning it is not geared towards only beginners. I let the instructor know that my friend and I were first-timers, and she assured us that she would help us follow along. Within the first five minutes of class, we were in our first upside pose. The instructor walked around the class giving verbal cues but did not correct form or give pointers. She said it was normal to feel uncomfortable. We held the position for several minutes, and then continued onward to other complicated postures and poses. The studio has the hammocks close together in a small space, meaning it's perfectly common to collide with your neighbor during the "swinging" moves. Hammocks are changed every other day, and with several classes each day, be aware that your face and extremities aren't in the cleanest environment. After the class (I had signed up for the 3 for $30 promotion for new students), I noticed that I had lost sensation in my left leg. I played it off thinking it was normal, as the instructor insisted that new sensations were perfectly common and to be expected. A day later (Tuesday), I still hadn't regained sensation in my leg. I called the studio and spoke to Eva, who assured me it was normal to feel new sensations from doing an inversion and that it would go away in 24 hours (which would be 48 hours from when I took the class). I explained that not feeling my leg didn't sound like a "normal" reaction to being upside down. She said there was no reason to "freak out," and assured me it would go away in 24 hours. I asked, "what happens if it doesn't go away in 24 hours?" and her response was "Well I believe it will." She told me to call back the next day, and offered a refund which I was glad to receive. Another 24 hours passed and my situation hadn't improved. I called the studio five times throughout the day (Wednesday), left a voicemail, and waited. I saw a doctor who informed me I had a pinched nerve from holding an incorrect position during the class. As an active and healthy individual with no injuries going into the class, I was horrified to learn this. Fast forward to Thursday, and still no contact was made by the studio to reach me. I called again after work and spoke to Linda, who promised Eva would be in touch after the meeting she was in. At 8:30pm I still hadn't been called, so I called again and Linda informed me that Eva had gone home for the day. Clearly, my situation wasn't seen as a matter of importance. Linda informed me my refund was processed and that Eva would call me the next day to learn more details about what happened. Today, Friday, Eva called me and left a voicemail. I called back and explained that I was angry at the lack of communication and felt pushed aside. She could not understand why I called the situation a "fiasco". She said that she hadn't received my calls on Wednesday but had been in that day (five calls made by me at 11am when they opened, at lunchtime, around 5pm, and later that night, with no answer, no call back). Moving past the lack of communication, I asked what her response was to my injury in the studio. Her only comment was to send a doctor's note because she "didn't understand my injury." Eva did not express any interest, compassion, or apology in response to my experience or injury. Instead, she got upset at me for saying that someone should have called and that I had to call so many times to get a response. I'm disgusted by the lack of communication, lack of instruction and attention to first time students, and the dismissal of an injury that occurred as this studio. Be aware before you go, this isn't for everyone and injuries can happen. And if they do, don't expect the studio to care. read more

Getting used to the hammock and being suspended in air took a couple of sessions but with a little sense of adventure you can have a lot of fun during your work outs. Josie was a great instructor and I liked the restorative yoga classes as well. Shoulder Stand takes on a whole new (quite literal!) meaning, and there is simply nothing that compares to a floating Savasana. A anti gravity yoga silk was purchased as a gift for me, the photograph on the web site is totally different from the silk I received. The silk I received had the Anti gravity logo posted all over it. I contacted the studio and the operational manger was rude, not helpful and would not switch out my silk for a simpler pattern. Their web site states"Feel free to contact us for inquiries on our equipment. One of our friendly staff will be happy to assist you." That is not true, the director of operations was so rude. This was a Christmas gift and you would think that they would switch out the fabric if I didn't like it. She told me "your family shouldn't of bought if for you if they didn't know your taste" In addition the silks are too short and don't have enough material to tie the proper knot as the silks in the many studios I have taken aerial in. I am very disappointed in the service I have received from Anti Gravity in NYC. It would of been no hassle off their back to exchange the silk for me, I wasn't asking for anything more other than not having a Michael Korrs like logo printed all over a silk that will be hanging in my home that I would like to be peaceful and not busyy like the ones they have sent me. And the killer is the silks shown on their web site in their class are plain and there are no logos printed all over it! What is the deal with this, there is a way to put a subtle logo on your product Anti Gravity. I called to speak to someone other than the rude operational manager and they would not help at all. BUYER BEWARE Extremely disappointed, I will be finding a new silk material to replace the gaudy ones they sent to me. Shame on you Anti Gravity! SHAME ON YOU! And to think my family spent $300. on a product that the company won't back up. read more

i love this place! A great way to stretch the body while being suspended in the air ( actually, just a few feet off the ground). Lorianne is an exceptionally patient instructor who manages to assist everyone in her class simultaneously and Jenny the receptionist is a welcoming pleasure, eager to assist with your registrations for the varying classes. With a mix of yoga and Ariel acrobatics, this class makes me feel like A kid again and leaves me feeling relaxed, well stretched, muscle toned and 2 pounds lighter every time I visit. I was unlucky to have Joy Rodriguez more than once, and I have to say, I wanted to ask for a refund (I don't want to pay for a class that's subpar and we pretty much did nothing), so call ahead to find out who's teaching! I purchased the 3 for $30 deal a few weeks ago and have taken my first , fundamentals class at this location. I was blown away by the customer service here- the moment I walked in I was greeted and welcomed by teachers and the front desk girl. I was originally intimidated going here but as soon as I arrived I felt confident that I had made the right choice. The front desk girl was ridiculously helpful and the teacher I had (sub for Lorraine) was AMAZING. She's very patient with beginners and makes you feel really relaxed and included all the way. I went to ANYA before this for a aerial yoga class and I can honestly say, after my negative experience at ANYA, it was refreshing to be around the teachers and workers at the AntiGravity Lab. 100% Worth every penny. read more

I joined the 3/$30 try-out program and the paid $30 upfront. first class was alright. Instructor seemed very welcoming. However, after scheduling the 2nd class, I had a bad fever and missed it. They charged me extra $10 for cancellation fee, suspended me from scheduling the 3rd class (though already paid), and claimed nothing is refundable. This doesn't seem to make much sense to me, and almost like a scheme. Not a fan of how they operate, and seems to be very profit-driven. At this point, it's not about the money, but the extremely uncomfortable experience. Also had class in OM Aerial Yoga which is in the same building, with way better experience. Will recommend to choose OM over this one to my friends. read more

I second everything the previous reviewer has said, and then some. People, do yourselves a favor and get yourselves into a hammock at Christopher Harrison's Antigravity Lab. You will absolutely love it and it'll make you so happy. You'll fly (think Cirque, but more badass), you'll get a great workout, you'll de-stress, you'll build flexibility - all at the same time - but most importantly, you'll have the most *fun* you've ever had working out, even while your abs are being challenged like crazy. This lab is where antigravity yoga was invented, so every instructor is awesome and knowledgeable and certified in many different disciplines. Each brings a lot of personality, enthusiasm and joy to the practice. The instructors care a great deal about your experience in class. Classes are small, so they're always looking out for you, making sure you're safe and happy and having fun, ready to lend a hand (literally) if you want/need. Their cuing is really thorough and thoughtful, so you'll know what you're doing at every step. Classes strike a really effective balance between flips and tricks and strengthening and stretching, so everyone will be satisfied. You'll show yourself that you're stronger and more flexible than you thought, and pretty soon your favorite place to be will be swinging upside-down. *Anyone* can do antigravity yoga. You don't need to have experience in yoga, dance, pilates or anything else. Flying Fitness classes are my favorite, but there's also Antigravity Pilates (probably the most efficient core workout you'll ever do) and Restorative Antigravity Yoga, which is so great for gently stretching and healing your neck, back and joints. There are also classes that'll introduce you to all the fundamentals you need to know for a strong foundation for your practice. The staff is professional, super friendly and laid-back. They'll make you feel like a member of the family in no time. The space is clean and well cared for. Antigravity yoga is my *favorite* workout, hands down. Try it! read more

It has a wonderful and inviting energy! I am a former dancer who needed a new form of fitness to stay in shape and inspired- this is it. The inversions feel incredible- I can't live without them now!
