I'm pretty shy when it comes to joining any sort of gym or yoga studio. I find a place at the back of the room and commit to a program after I'm absolutely 120% positive I'll continue. mang'Oh is not only walking distance from my apartment, but it is a great place to get super yoga & pilates instructions. Don't be fooled by the sweet voices of the instructors - they give a tough work out. I love the way that the owners, sisters Erica & Cindy, have created a pleasant community with their yogis, but also with their members. They have a great variety of classes and one-off workshops are offered as well.

The venue is very nice and cozy and the whole atmosphere exude a sense of grounded energy and community. We did a lot of breath work, sound work which included musical instruments and chants, movement, stretches, group work, and some laying down towards the end. We did some work on the importance of water where he put bowl of water in the middle and people took turns appreciating it. It was great. By the end of the class, everyone was smiling and felt like friends even though we never spoke a word to one another. After class they let us hang around in the lounge area w/ water and free yogurt. Overall this was a very precious and memorable experience. One thing I gotta say is that the teacher let us out 45 mins late. I don't mind it because it was so enjoyable but it might be a concern to some people. So glad I had the opportunity to take a class here with ClassPass. I will definitely come back. Might even buy a month pass.

One of the goals is to also reconnect with yourself. I was not aware of its existence until my friend sent me a link and suggested to check out a class with her. Classes run at $27, but they also have package deals. The theme of the class we took was about Love, including self love. What was fascinating about Frequency was that their classes are held in the most cozy dome. Once you enter the dome for class, it becomes your safe space. We got started with subtle breathing techniques as the facilitator prepared to play a recording that guided us throughout the exercise. The ceiling of the dome was unique as colorful geometric shapes continuously played making me feel hypnotic. The class lasted for an hour and it was a very small group, just 4 including the facilitator. There were mini exercises that had us partner up. I was with my friend and felt comfortable but if you're going alone, expect to open up with a stranger. Some of the words I'd use to describe the class would be: meditation, visualization, deep breathing and affirmations. The lecture was wonderful and I felt very relaxed once it was over with a sense of calmness and serenity. I think $27 for a one hour class might be a tad high but i really enjoyed the experience. But like other regimens such as yoga, the gym and meditation, it is encouraged to visit Frequency regularly to reap the benefits. Definitely recommend!!

I won't even try to pretend I understand how she does it. (I don't) But I sure as hell am glad I…read morefound Jessica on Yelp. I had my second session tonight. I was a bit surprised how different it was than my first. Both equally good, but let's just say - scheduling that second session was probably the best decision I've made in a long time. First of all, Jessica begins each session in her office with a conversation. She'll talk to you about what led you to book an appointment with her, how you're doing between sessions, what's been bothering you, etc. and then come up with a plan of action for what to focus her (amazing) healing powers on during that session. With me, the first session (which was my first reiki session ever of any kind), it was like she just "knew" things about my past that there's no way she could have known. She's definitely intuitive as well, which is pretty freaking awesome - something I did not expect. It felt like she understood my pain on every level, and could relate to me and what I was going through, which made me feel at ease with her, before she even touched me. Talking to Jessica comes natural, in a way that sort of makes me feel like we go way back (even though we don't) - like I can tell her my deepest, darkest secrets, feelings and fears, knowing she won't judge me, but instead will lift me up, saying "okay, this is how we're going to fix this." My first session a few weeks ago was intense, in a good way. My whole body felt like it was on fire; like I was burning up. I literally felt things being "pulled" out of me, which is what she said she was doing... pulling out negative thoughts and feelings, and cutting the cord between me and past men in my life. Little did I know that was only the foundation for the "real work" to come. Jessica has magical hands. I don't know how, but she does. I could feel so many things that first session. She really worked with me on ridding my head and heart of many past loves, and heartbreak. Afterwards I felt lighter, and less anxious. So incredible. Jessica stayed with me for a few minutes after my session and texted me some books I should be reading, and made sure I was feeling okay. So sweet. Then tonight... wow, what an entirely different experience. I don't think I've ever felt more relaxed, than I did while on her table between the hours of 5:30pm and 6:30pm tonight. Yet again, she worked her magic on me. I felt lighter. I felt calm. I was so relaxed and in a complete state of meditation, that I literally saw images of men from my past pop up and voices telling me to say "bye," followed by their name. I mean, talk about liberating. Wow. At one point, I actually felt like I was floating. At another point, I got this vision of me on a river, in a kayak, just laying down on top of it, while letting the water do its thing. No paddling, no trying to be in control. Just letting the river (metaphor for universe?) do what it was supposed to. This is actually a memory I have from the past few years, when I've traveled. It's something I've actually done before, and is super relaxing to me. But, I hadn't even thought about this in forever, and all of a sudden, it was like I was having this amazing, semi-out-of-body experience watching myself float down this river. Tonight I also cried while Jess was working on healing me. I wasn't expecting to, it just happened, but wow, that's such a testament to how amazing she is. It's like my soul was on display and Jessica knew just what to do and say. After my session tonight, again, Jessica waited a little longer - even though she had a client right after me, she knew I was anxious about some things and stayed to make sure I was alright. That was a huge blessing to me in ways I can't even begin to describe here. She even texted me to follow up and ask if I'm okay. My experience has been that Jessica is kind, sweet, talented, funny, compassionate, understanding, experienced, and legit the real deal. She's amazing. I cannot wait for my next session. Go see her, I'm positive you won't regret it. :)

This style of yoga is very different but it's super effective and it's open to all ages, shapes, and sizes, and is highly recommended to anyone who has anxiety, addiction, depression, are prone to overthinking, and/or prone to absorbing others thoughts and emotions as their own, etc. With consistent practice, it'll literally change your life for the better, while bringing in more inner peace and self love.

Great tips to remember: Wear comfy loose clothes & maybe socks (you can take them off when you are warm enough) A head covering to keep energy in is great but optional Use the restroom before class begins to stay focused Chant if you want to - if not, just enjoy the vibe! This is a relatively peaceful space as the police station next door has most of the parking spots on the street full, so traffic on this block (in an otherwise busy area) is a bit lesser. The only reason for 4 not 5 stars is that would be great to have more classes - the schedule is still a bit lean.

I first became acquainted with the Shinnyo Center back in 2014 when after reading 10% Happier* by Dan Harris (renowned journalist), he would be making an appearance (along with other notable personalities) at the center. Shinnyo is a glorious Eastern/Buddhist temple/center oasis tucked away in the heart of the garment district. Its main focus is everything related to meditation and benefits. After meeting Dan Harris, I was intrigued with the center, what they offered & its principles. There's self guided meditation (sit in the temple on your own to meditate), guided meditation for nominal fee, special meditation workshops such as jazz (done it and cool!) and matcha meditation (on my list whereupon it includes meditation but also incorporates a matcha tea ceremony). The special workshops are fee based. For a great introduction to Shinnyo, check out Groupon for package deal specials---10 or 20 visits promo. It's a great way to incorporate meditation in your life. An added incentive to check it out is for the first week in January, (through January 6th), the center is offering free guided meditation sessions so visit their website for days/times. I can't speak highly enough of the Shinnyo Center. The entire staff is so welcoming and I am confident anyone who visits will walk out feeling positive and relaxed. I'm looking to become more of a regular in 2018. *this amazing autobiography outlines how a fidgety journalist (Dan Harris) experienced an on air panic attack years ago and then discovered the benefits of meditation. My decision to receive TM training at the Midtown Manhattan Center under the tutelage of Jonathan…read moreGoldstein, has totally transformed my enjoyment of life. I was born and raised in a very rural and tranquil area in north western Ireland, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the lush green hills of my home county of Donegal. It is very easy to find peace there. But in October 2016, I married a New Yorker and soon afterwards found myself in Jackson Heights, Queens - one of the busiest, most densely populated and diverse neighborhoods in the world. That change came as quite a shock. I found the long immigration process to be quite frustrating. During the winter months, I was missing Ireland, struggling to adapt to life in such a busy city, and knew that I needed some sort of change in my life. I was feeling a little stressed, was having trouble sleeping, and was generally experiencing decreased motivation and creativity. Getting good quality sleep was a continual problem. I found TM online, and enrolled for a free non-committal introductory talk in March 2017. I instantly decided to take the training, and it has turned out to be an excellent decision. I thoroughly enjoyed the week-long training program. I found the center to be very relaxing, and the quality of teaching on offer was first class. I could not possibly have asked for better training/mentoring. As for the TM itself, I felt immediate benefits, and now, three months later, having practiced TM twice daily ever since, I feel completely rejuvenated. I sleep as soon as I go to bed, and wake feeling refreshed, positive, very confident about the future, and despite the fast-paced nature of life in New York, I feel calm and assured. Perhaps the best thing I can say about TM is that it is effortless. Previously, when I was presented with a problem or a challenge, (just I suspect like many other people), I would think and think in the hopes of finding a solution. TM has taught me that I don't need to think harder to find solutions to life's problems. In fact, I should do the opposite. TM allows me to switch my thoughts off, and this innately triggers a sense of complete stillness, which brings so many benefits to my life. The realization that I can do this, and delve into the boundless possibilities and creative opportunities that come from TM is a complete revelation. I would thoroughly recommend TM training at the Midtown Manhattan Center.
