I looked AWFUL, and immediately started calling dentists in the area. Many would not even give me a price range over the phone and told me I needed to come into the office first and pay for the initial exam. Seeing as I am paying out of pocket and didn't appreciate this shady behavior from a few other local offices, I decided to continue looking. I called Sellwood Dental less than 10 minutes before they closed, and Linda answered. She not only gave me the quote for the initial consultation and x-ray, which was very reasonable, but she was also able to provide me with a price range for the repair up front. Though their hours were limited, she connected me with Dr. Rodriguez's other office to check their availability and put me down for an appointment just in case. I ended up keeping the appointment at Sellwood Dental and she sent me all my new patient paperwork via email to fill out beforehand which was very convenient. Once I got to the office (which is less than a mile from my house--score!), Linda welcomed me and I waited for all of 5 minutes before being seen. Dr. Rodriguez was up front, thorough, informative, and an overall fun guy, which is more than I could ask for in a dentist. He knew I was paying out of pocket and gave me the quote for the service up front BEFORE the repair, which ended up being on the lower side of the range Linda gave me--always appreciated! Not only did he do an outstanding job on the repair itself (he made my tooth look better than my previous dentist of 15+ years!), he also offered to shape the same tooth that's on my flipper (fake tooth retainer, I'm missing my lateral incisor on one side and have a petite one on the other side) to match and look more aesthetically pleasing, free of charge. The whole thing took exactly an hour from the time I signed in to the time I walked out the door. I left with a HUGE smile on my face and only a small ding to my wallet. I cannot say enough about Dr. Rodriguez and the whole Sellwood Dental team. Once I get my insurance situation squared away, I will be back! Great service, great location, and I'm one happy customer.

When I've had my teeth cleaned, the hygienist puts a topical anesthetic on my teeth prior to cleaning which makes the process so much more gentle! The staff has photos of their families, of animals, & of places they've traveled on a tv that you can watch while you receive care & that makes the whole process so much nicer! As others have mentioned, they have a huge parking lot and so parking is free & easy. Moreland Neighborhood Dental has thought of everything to make going to the dentist an easy, gentle, & attentive experience! After having a terrible experience with another dentist in Portland I searched for months for a new dentist until I got to the point of experiencing a fall that resulted in a couple of broken teeth and desperately needed to get in somewhere. This dentist office doesn't pop up right away in the search options for OHP accepting dentists but after some referrals to really scarrrrry looking establishments I dug a little bit deeper and I am SO glad I did!!! Not only did Southwest Hills get me in the very next week! But they were so easy to communicate with via email and text because my mouth was in pain so speaking on the phone wasn't very fun at that moment. The 2 receptionists I dealt with were extremely friendly and efficient, and their intake paperwork is very simple and fully able to be done online before your appointment. Upon getting to the location some people in the comments here seem to be judgmental about the building alone, which is already rude in my opinion, but it's located in what you could say is akin to an older small business building how a lot of doctor's offices were in the 90's. It's older "looking" but very well unkept on the inside and actually pretty charming, very clean and cutesy retro. Staff again was very friendly upon my arrival at the appointment and I did not have to wait long to be called back. The hygienist who took care of me was absolutely lovely and was so fun to talk with we really got to chatting and it calmed my nerves so much! She also had a really cool handheld camera-like device to do the X-rays which made it extremely quick and painless with none of that running out of the room between every click business. She was so gentle in her exam and very educational on what I should and could be doing for my teeth! Next was the dentist himself Christopher Hill. What an absolute gem. I told him some of my bad experiences from other dentists and the judgements I have faced being on OHP and he sincerely apologized that I had to go through that and told me he does not care at all what insurance I have, that he's just happy to have me in his chair taking care of my teeth. So kind. He also gives very good discounts on things like crowns to his OHP patients which is a huge blessing. He conducted his exam which was also very gentle and painless, even giving me a screening for oral cancer which I have never had a dentist do which I thought was pretty neat, and came up with a great game plan for getting my teeth all fixed up! Within a month I have 2 returning appointments already booked and was offered anxiety medication when I expressed some fears I have. Overall absolute 10/10 experience here and I can't wait to come back for the rest of my appointments and get my teeth back to beautiful again, and if you are hesitant about dentists or have OHP this is the place for you! My case required a referral to OHSU, which was submitted in April. After waiting nearly nine weeks without hearing anything and making multiple attempts to follow up, I reached back out to SW Hills Dentistry hoping they would advocate for me or help move my care forward. Instead, I was repeatedly told to call someone else and essentially left to navigate the situation on my own. What was most upsetting was not the delay itself, but the complete lack of empathy and professionalism shown throughout the process. Several email responses came across as rude, dismissive, and unnecessarily defensive. Rather than acknowledging my concerns or attempting to provide compassionate support, I was told there was nothing they could do and, after expressing my disappointment with my experience and with Dr. Hill's demeanor, I was effectively told to find another dentist and sent a records release form. The email stating, "Since you think Dr. Hill is rude and unpleasant this isn't a good fit," was particularly unprofessional and felt more like a personal reaction than a response from a healthcare provider. Patients should be able to provide honest feedback without being met with defensiveness. I understand specialists and insurance networks are outside of their control. However, kindness, empathy, and professionalism are entirely within their control, and unfortunately those qualities were lacking in my experience. I never expected miracles, only compassion and some level of advocacy. Instead, I was made to feel like an inconvenience. I would not recommend this office to anyone looking for a provider who values communication, patient support, and professionalism.

I am sharing my experience because I believe prospective patients should have the opportunity to…read morelearn from a patient's experience and make informed decisions about their dental care. I received treatment at Macadam Dental in June 2025 after experiencing tooth pain. A pre-determination for crowns and buildups on teeth #2 and #3 was submitted to Delta Dental on July 3 and approved July 8. I was not notified by the office that the approval had been received. When I asked about it at my September 8 appointment, I was initially told the office had not received it. After I explained that I had received the approval, staff located it in their system. Macadam Dental then referred me to an endodontist for root canal treatment prior to crowns. The endodontist subsequently requested that Macadam Dental perform tooth reduction before the root canal procedure. On October 2, Macadam Dental spent several hours performing tooth reduction on two teeth. During the procedure, the dental handpiece grinding my teeth kicked back while it was in my mouth and was briefly loose. I experienced immediate distress and screamed. After the anesthetic wore off, I began experiencing ongoing and increasing pain involving at least two teeth that had not previously been symptomatic. I was concerned by the poor response I received from Macadam Dental afterward and sought evaluation and treatment from additional dental providers who were more responsive to my distress. Resolving the situation and determining a path forward took months. During this process, I discovered that Macadam Dental had submitted an October 2 insurance claim representing crown services as completed, even though the definitive crowns had not been seated. I had a temporary restoration placed by Macadam Dental that day; the permanent crowns had not yet been made or delivered to the office; and the root canal treatment that had been identified as necessary had not yet occurred - so far from complete as Macadam Dental represented to Delta Dental. I disputed the claim with Delta Dental. Delta Dental subsequently recovered the payment from the provider. When I spoke with a Delta Dental representative by phone, he told me that he considered the billing issue to involve fraud. I am reporting that as what was communicated to me; I am not independently making a determination about intent. I also requested copies of my dental records from Macadam Dental. I did not initially receive them. After I filed a complaint with the Oregon Board of Dentistry, I received records, but I continued to identify what I believed were missing or incomplete portions and had to make additional requests, with the Oregon Board of Dentistry copied on the correspondence. My concern is not simply that something went wrong during treatment. It is the combination of the delayed follow-up regarding an approved treatment plan, what occurred during the October 2 procedure, the subsequent pain and difficulty obtaining appropriate care, the insurance claim for crown services that had not been completed, and the difficulty I experienced obtaining a timely resolution and complete records. Since leaving Macadam Dental, I have consulted additional dental practitioners about what treatment is actually necessary. One subsequent practitioner evaluated me and determined that I did not require the root canals that had previously been recommended. I was also advised that the extensive tooth reduction that had been performed was not necessary. I am now dealing with the permanent loss of tooth structure resulting from that treatment. I am sharing this experience so that other patients can ask questions, carefully review treatment plans and insurance claims, and understand what treatment has actually been completed before proceeding with additional care. This review reflects my personal experience, my understanding of the records available to me, and statements made to me by the professionals involved. I am not attempting to make an independent determination about professional misconduct or intent.
