I had a great experience at my dental visit today. The doctor took plenty of time to thoroughly go over the health of my mouth and answer all of my questions, which I really appreciated. During my cleaning, the hygienist was very kind and gentle, making the whole process comfortable. The overall atmosphere of the office was amazing--I felt relaxed and completely at ease the entire time. I've been going to The Smile Lounge for probably about 3 years. I had learned about the Smile Lounge through Facebook and I was also a lucky winner who won a one year subscription plan. The office is beautiful, and Dr. Andrew Henderson is a down to earth caring person. If you sign up for an annual membership, the teeth cleanings are complimentary, and all other procedures or visits are 15% off. The office is stunning and is on the fifth floor overlooking the hills of Beaverton. They also always have a clean and comfortable dental office with movies or television to distract you while having work done. If you have dental anxiety, they treat you with care. Unfortunately, in the last year I have had more dental issues and appointments than expected. From a bad wisdom tooth to another tooth decaying, I have had some issues that haven't been on my plate. I did have a problem with a tooth cap unfortunately. Dr. Henderson did two temporary caps and both of them went completely fine. He warned me that he wasn't sure if it would work because I had lost about 70% of my orginal tooth. The two temporary caps worked out great, and I felt like I had my old tooth back again. Unfortunately, the final permanent cap wasn't set right. I'm not sure if it was my bite mold or something went wonky with his partnership clinic that molded my tooth, but I realized it was bad right away....... I called the office back, but was told it was just me and the tooth was just settling in. Less than a week later the whole cap and remnants of my original tooth just fell out. Dr. Henderson said this had never happened before. He offered alternatives to fix it but each option made me more skeptical and apprehensive. So for the time being, I have a tooth missing now. I still trust him as a dentist and he did do some additional dental work (2 fillings) to compensate me for the issue. read more

I never thought I would be leaving a 5 star review for the dentist but The Smile Lounge is *exceptional.* How good can a dentist be? Let's review. My spidey-senses were tingling or maybe that was a cavity was forming. Yikes. I don't know what's worse, finding a dentist or going to the dentist. Thankfully, my best friend found Smile Lounge on reddit under recommendations of nonjudgemental dentists in the area. "Definitely check out The Smile Lounge. I'm autistic and have bad dental anxiety, so dental appointments have always sucked. The dentist there spent a lot of time with me, answering all my questions, made sure I was comfortable, and let me take breaks when I needed them. It was the first experience I've had where I didn't feel judged at all, or lectured about poor hygiene." Sold! I called in, made an appointment and was sent forms to fill out ahead of time online. Sweet! The form gives you a lot of space to explain your previous experience with dentists and comfort level. Never had that before. It's in a building right next to Washington Square. The entrance faces Embassy Suites. There is a callbox to use for Smile Lounge to let you in. It was a tad bit confusing at first but no big deal. I was greeted and led into a chair right away. The rooms are beautiful. Plants on the walls, beautiful views, lofi music, and TV's on the ceiling. I asked the good dentist if he hired a designer or if it was all him. He told me that he has always been fascinated with the effect environment has on people and wants people to feel as comfortable as possible during their visit. I never thought I would use the word comfortable to describe my visit but that's exactly what it was. No giant xray machines or weird implements I need to hold in my mouth. No hard office lighting, glaring lights, claustrophobia, or whirring from other patients. Privacy. The best part was the transparency. You can actually see your own x-rays and the good dentist will explain everything you want to know, nothing more or less. I honestly did not want to leave. I'm terrified of going to the dentist: the judgement, lectures about dental hygiene, the lack of empathy, the pain and the trauma of being treated like a *patient* instead of a *person*. I am relieved that there are dental practices like Smile Lounge. It was such a positive experience that ever person should have in their life. Go to Smile Lounge for all your dental needs. We moved from Las Vegas, NV a year ago and needed a dentist for our whole family. We came across The Smile Lounge via Yelp and made our appointments. Our family of 4 absolutely loved our first visit and our second 6th month visit. Dr. Henderson is wonderful! He is a man that does it all!!! We've never had this experience before... a dentist who does your x-rays, cleaning, and exam. An all-in-one experience is what I call it. An absolute caring and compassionate dentist who is a professional expert in what he does. My whole family enjoys going to the dentist now. We are thankful that Dr. Henderson can book us all in one day and back to back. It's a full family experience. An experience that is never rushed!!! The office is a modern setting with relaxing music playing while you wait. The exam room for your cleanings is very neat and clean. Decor is calm and peaceful. A tv is on the ceiling which is another calming feature to your experience. Scheduling is easy and Dr. HENDERSON's receptionist is very kind, professional, and understanding. read more

As a new patient Dr. Henderson was amazing. He did a great job allaying my fear / dislike of dentists from my past experiences. Scheduling was flexible and Dr. Henderson laid out a map of treatment and initial costs. After my initial consult we asked how I wanted to move forward and asked my timeline. When I responded that my timeline was as soon as reasonably possible he offered to perform the first of a two appointment procedure on the spot. I have never seen that willingness from another dentist. On the first installment of this procedure, Dr. Henderson explained exactly what would be happening and explained that with a wave of the hand he would stop work and apply more Novocaine if needed. Suffice it to say he numbed me sufficiently and I barely felt the numbing injections yet wasn't left with dribble mouth for hours after. I had not been to a dentist in years. Dr. Henderson offered no judgement, just a plan to get me where I want to be. I highly recommend The Smile Lounge and Dr. Henderson. Best Dentist I have ever seen. read more

I needed to get an emergency visit with a dentist due to bonding coming loose on my front tooth and my regular dentist through Kaiser had no visits for weeks. Found Dr. Andrew Henderson with the Smile Lounge. Able to get an urgent appointment within 5 days, I was in and out in 1 hour, no pain and my tooth looked perfect. Highly recommend him and his team. The cost was better than I expected as well and to top it off he is local graduate of OHSU which is awesome! read more

Dr. Henderson is wonderful. He saw me same day for an emergency, and has now become my regular dentist. He explained everything really well so I knew what to expect, and he has created a space that is comfortable and pleasant. I also appreciate that he has taken special care to make it an autism friendly space. The rooms all have TVs on the ceiling so you can pick a show or music for your time in the chair. I have severe dental phobia, which makes any kind of dental work just a nightmare. But Dr. Andrew Henderson is amazing. The rooms are private, so you're not sitting in the middle of a huge space filled with 12 other people getting their teeth drilled, and there's nitrous oxide, which is super important. This feature is getting harder and harder to find, which makes no sense to me at all (well, except for the fact that it's so expensive to put into offices, which is probably enough of an explanation.) I admire people who can have dental work done without it, but I just can't get through the procedures otherwise. Dr. Henderson also explained everything he was doing and was very understanding of just how much I hate and fear any dental procedures and how much I wish I could just get through them without problems, but I can't. Most dentists and especially hygienists seem to think that you're making up a dental phobia for fun, but he really gets it. Wonderful work, beautiful office, and great people!
