It looks classy, fresh and modern. It is spacious and the clothes are spread out, making them easier to look at. There is also a massive mirror along the back wall. In the middle of the room there is an old-school car, used to put clothes on. This makes the shop just that bit cooler. The clothes are ok. I have purchased a few shirts for family and friends from there, but I wouldn't go racing back again. It is all slightly over-priced, but you are paying for the brand. The clothes are different and a nice change from the mass-produced shirts other male clothes shop sell. I do love their shoes, also expensive, but if I was a guy I would of bought many of them by now. The service is nothing to rave about, no one jumps up to greet you when you enter the shop, but they do yell hello from the other side of the room. I don't know if it's just me, but customer service never seems to be great in any of the new 'hip' retail shops around.

Ivy League is ok for what it is - it definitely lives up to its name, which suggests a slightly elitist, collegiate selectivity. Think Wes Anderson. A bit preppy and a bit pretentious. This is some people's thing. I don't bag it at all. For the most part I'm a Wes fangirl. They have some great slim cut suits and I also spotted a few rad backpacks, but the more athletic Abercrombie stuff I could give a miss.

But not as much as the other suit giants. Never fear if a bespoke custom suit is still out of reach, they stock a range off off the rack, limited run suits - so you're not about to see everyone else wearing the same suit - that can be tailored to fit you like a glove. If a salesman ever tells you that the suit fits you, straight off the rack, he's lying and just wants your money. Michael is a brilliant man, he will never utter those words to you, and he knows his stuff, like he KNOWS his stuff. The measuring tape and pins are out before you can spin in the mirror. Anything to do with the fabric to the right shoes or ties and pocket squares to match, or if the groom is going for a bespoke custom, he can arrange for a slightly less expensive, complementing option for your groomsman and dad. Michael's a true gentleman, who will pour you a glass of scotch before he takes your money.

Though it was evidently directed towards alternative fashion when it first opened up shop in Adelaide, it has now adopted a more mainstream approach, and their items will cater to almost anybody. The great thing about Dangerfield is you don't have to worry about shelling out a fortune. I've come in on a whim with nothing more than a twenty dollar note, and left with some pretty cool gear such as T-shirts, belts, jewellery and the like. Aside from their T-shirts being either very quirky or visually appealing, they have a great selection of button-down shirts, vests, ties, and overcoats. I've still got a winter coat I bought from them about five years ago, and it hasn't deteriorated a single bit. They also have a great accessories range, and if you're looking for bags, hats, belts or jewellery with a bit of edge, then you should have no problem finding it here. The staff is also very helpful and pleasant to chat to, and they won't make you feel like you're shopping in the wrong place.

On the not overly expensive side, most of the items of clothing are around the $50-$150 mark. But with the unique style that Dangerfield offers, I believe it to be very worth it.

It is quite impressive when a self-confessed 'cheap' store makes the effort to renovate so it doesn't actually *look* so cheap - and this one looks great. Very easy to navigate and well signed (I could see where the fitting rooms were easily - unlike other department stores). I do think they needed more staff on the registers during the lunchtime peak period, but the line still moved pretty quickly. I felt like I was in a bank, with the big screens telling us that 'register 6 is free' - bizarre, but still impressive ;)

The shoes are always unnecessarily over the top, the jumpers or jackets covered in more vinyl and synthetics than you can poke a burning stick at. Tackitty tack tack. I've been in many times, no staff member has ever acknowledged me let alone spoken to me and queried if I needed assistance. They must have decent stuff their sometimes, I see my friends sporting them all the time. I don't quite know what's going on. There's definitely no where else called LAX. The surprise of seeing one of Australia's biggest young designers inside drew me inside. I had actually assumed from the outside that LAX was more a street fashion/ men's store, with all the sneakers on display, and the name 'LAX' as well. But glancing through the racks I was pleasantly surprised by the selection: lots of big name and hard-to-find-in-Adelaide designers like Antipodium, Jesse Hill, Josh Goot and the like, as well as bits from cheaper fashion labels like Minkpink. Yet, despite having some amazing labels on offer, something has stopped me from really liking and frequenting this store. It could be that the selection isn't huge, or the general food court ambiance, or the uninviting decor. Or it could be their edit of the labels just isn't really my style - it feels street/ surf/ skate even though it has a lot of higher end pieces, I can't put my finger on it.

As much as I love cute fashion (hint: it's a lot), I am also a lazy, lazy person and love shopping for fashion whilst in my pj's in bed even more. The inevitable result is that I actually physically visit fewer and fewer boutiques and stores in real life. The Birdcage is one of the few boutiques I will actually get out of bed for. And here's why (oooh, I feel a list coming on...) 1. It's around the corner from where I live. So while I *do* have to change out my pyjamas, I don't have to put in too much effort to get there. 2. The act of browsing there is enjoyable. The smallish space has personality, with vintage trinkets and boudoir styling to offset the racks and racks of fashion, as well as spacious change rooms. The visual merchandising works really well - they even organise product by hue which I really dig. 3. The sale rack is ever present out the front. What girl doesn't love a bargain? 4. The prices. Falling somewhere in between fast fashion prices and higher end boutiques, you can easily walk in with $50 and walk out with a gorgeous little summer top, or spend $450 on a splurge piece. I'd say median prices are around the $150 mark and the quality in my experience has been really good (but of course that will depend on label). 5. The labels. It's a well curated selection of both local and national labels, from SA locals to Australoid bigwigs, it's an aesthetically cohesive range that fits somewhere between out and out girlie and on trend. Cameo, Finders Keepers, Keepsake are all stocked here, to name a few. Lots of whimsy going on with short skater skirts and shades that gently meander from cream to pale blue, with the occasional party piece thrown in. 6. Lover. This cult Aussie label is A BIG DEAL to stock. While Lover pieces stocked at the Birdcage are few and far between, it is one of the only places in Adelaide (I think Whistles also stock select pieces but I could be wrong...) to nab yourself a piece or simply ogle it in real life. As a HUGE Lover fan this is a massive selling point for me.

Sometimes I just want to discreetly carry it away with me as I walk past...
