Judells - Try on the purple one!

I came to Burnside expecting immense snobbery, and instead all I found was a lot of slightly…read moresuperior politeness, which Judells epitomised. The shop assistant was helpful and very professional, and put aside a dress that I couldn't decide on, since it was the last in its size. I was surprised by how much I liked their clothing, actually. I came in looking for a nice dress for my mother, and almost walked out in one myself. Their clothing covers a wide range of ages, from anyone starting her career up to ladies well past middle age. They do this cleverly by selling very flattering designs so that women of all shapes can look good in them. Myself, who looks ridiculous in most of the clothing marketed to my age (I am tall, curvy, and just look wrong in those tiny little dresses), couldn't believe how good some of these dresses looked. Suddenly my hips stood out in a good way, my shoulders nicely accentuated and just the right about of attention drawn to the chestal regions. Hello! Someone knows how to make a dress! Only a stern talking to by my man stopped me buying this beauty, marked down by half to $90. Someone, get in their fast - it's the purple on in the back corner! What initially drew me in were the formal dresses in the window. They have a great range of corporate-meets-formal dresses that you could wear to a whole range of functions. There is some glitz, but also plenty of very elegant and versatile designs. Judells, you surprised me, and I like it.

I read your review, Sara, and have to agree with you on some parts. The service is often below par…read moreand the prices are hefty given it's not considered a designer brand. However, they do have beautifully handcrafted leather goods and it is a bit of a statement to be carrying a Mimco bag. I can spot them a mile off. I must admit it is hard to justify $500-odd for a bag when I can order a Marc Jacobs from the states and have it delivered here for much less than that. I have a gorgeous Mimco satchel I use for work that I've had for just over a year and will last me many more years. It's a beautiful camel colour and has a velvet-lined inside pocket that I slip my Macbook in. People always comment on it and it is quite a statement piece, especially for work. I think it was around $500, but I got it 30% off at sale time. You're either a Mimco girl or you're not.

Now having never been into brands of any sort myself mostly because I could never afford them and…read morehalf of them are so ugly, I wasn't as excited as some that Mimco was coming to the Burnside Village. Having since been there, I can slightly lower the harshness of my first judgement - but only a little. I will concede that they do have some really nice things. Some of the handbags are really nice and obviously beautifully crafted and I am a big fan of the wallets and the little coin purses. However, the prices are astronomical. They are perhaps reasonable for the handbags and some of the larger items (shoulder bags and scarves) but the fact some of their hair clips that don't look particularly fancy are over $30 is just wrong. Nobody is ever going to look at your hair that closely. The store clerk also said nothing to me the whole time. It's not like I wanted her to breathe down my neck, but a friendly hello wouldn't have gone astray. Maybe she could tell from just looking at me that I wasn't really Mimco material.

The worst retail experience I've had for a long time. They have not returned any of my phone…read morecalls or emails and as a result, 7 weeks after returning a faulty iPod Touch I am still waiting for a replacement. Their ridiculous automated phone system invites you to [Press 1] for technical support. As a naive consumer who dropped off a faulty unit I thought that seemed a reasonable option...FAIL...after pressing one you are greeted with " we do not offer technical support, please contact Apple directly". [why ask the bl**dy question then] So back to the automated call options and [Press 3] for general enquiries....to be cut off. Try again...cut off. Try a 3rd time....cut off. Finally I had to make a special trip and drive to their store in Glenunga to discover my 10yr old son's iPod has been sitting in a plastic envelope for the past 7 weeks and so now finally having parted with some more cash the indications are that it will be sent back to Apple for a replacement. It shouldn't be this hard in an economic environment where retailers are complaining about weak consumer spending. On this occasion I am only spending a couple of hundred dollars on a replacement iPod but I am in the market for a new iMac. I wonder where I'll choose to spend my $2,000?

This is as good as it gets in Adelaide for an Apple Store until one opens in Rundle Mall soon--and…read moremaybe even after that. I have visited several times and always got courteous and knowledgeable service each time. Unlike many businesses, they don't look for reasons to avoid doing warranty repairs (perhaps because Apple pays them for the repair work). They have a good selection of accessories. Prices are pretty much list price-but you get that in all shops that sell Apple gear. If you need Apple equipment repaired or good advice on a new purchase, I recommend Next Byte. They have a location in Rundle Mall too, but I have never found the service as good there. Eat, drink and be merry--but not too much! JD

I am so passionate about this shop, it's like falling in love over again but with an innate object…read more Yeah, that sounds corny but it's true and anyone who sees it can't drive or walk past without going inside, it definitely has the 'IT' factor. A small shop but chock a block as its black and white colour scheme with neutral tones and spots of colour here and there, is a lovely combination. Black exterior, big picture windows, white interior and the name MAPLE in white against the black in simple font, is a classy effect plus the items they stock are just as dramatic. Once you look past the candles, jewellery and all the filler stuff every other shop in Adelaide carries, it's certainly different to what you'll find anywhere else and you can be sure of that. If this was the only shop available for lease when the owner was looking, she has chosen well....I think any larger and it would have taken the charm away. The owner has sourced items from everywhere including overseas, I remember once seeing these cute little, rustic fabric looking birdhouses, which came from New York made by a textile artist by the name of Tamar Mogendorff, and I noticed there still some of her creations in the shop like the little owls. Unfortunately I have to add they're mega expensive, hence I didn't buy one. The hessian sack textile crafts from India, Dinosaur Designs resin bowls, clothing, wall art, glassware, home decor, vases, nautical items and driftwood themes and tones, really too much to mention. It's a shop where the feel comes through of the owners' desire to source and stock items they love, otherwise what's the point of doing something you don't love day in day out! Do yourself a favour, it's summer, the Adelaide Hills are a short drive from the city and....go to there.

It's a 'things' place, if you need a new thing for your bookshelf or your mantlepiece or your walls or your dresser, this is where you would find that thing. the latest is this weird feather piece, looks like the feathers are stuck to a plate, it's really expensive and similar to what they have on the walls at Parisi's. Again, if you don't have a fair bit of cash or aren't willing to spend it, then don't even bother going in. luckily if you do go in and the prices are enough to put you into shock, the pub is 2 seconds walk away.
