Let's call this one 2.5 stars, as I iffed about going down to a 2. It's great that the Australian label has set up a standalone shop, and the space itself is minimal, well-designed and easy to browse, and I've never found the staff to be too pushy.
Mimco does produce some lovely, lovely designs, which I have purchased on more than one occasion.
But. I agree with Sarah that the prices, for what they are, are unreasonable. The first bag I got here was $400+. But for genuine leather and a design I really loved, I thought it was worth it in the long run. Unfortunately it wasn't. After a few months, the lovely caramel colour was stained black beyond help. Yes, I applied leather protector like they recommended. But my jeans after a few wears transferred the dye onto the leather and it never came out - I even enquired at a professional leather cleaner, who told me I couldn't clean it off but needed to re-dye the bag.
Which I did. Then, however, after about a year of on/off wear, the hardware broke, with the strap completely coming off. At this point the bag was looking much worse for wear anyway, so I called it a day and retired her. For the money I paid the quality should've been MUCH better, and it was a huge disappointment for one of the most expensive bags I've ever bought.
I also have a change purse, which is cute and still going strong (though I don't use it that often), as well as a leather carry on bag which I bought in a 70% off sale more recently.
In all though, I would never pay full price for a Mimco bag here or anywhere else. read more
