We were in the mood for some good Chinese food and didn't want to travel too far so we decided to get take away from Choyan since our parents had tried it and said it was good. We checked out the takeaway menu online and placed a good-sized order (we were feeding 5 of us), but nothing over the top. Ok, maybe it's us, but when I think of takeaway Chinese food, we think that it's going to be inexpensive and really, really tasty (at least that's my experience). The bill was over $100. That's almost $20+ per person for takeaway. We figured that it was from a sit down restaurant so maybe it cost a little more. When we went to pick up our food we got to take a look at the inside. The restaurant looked like a great authentic place to eat. It was full of customers, the space was large and there was a bar where people were talking and laughing. After seeing the inside, our expectations went back up. We took our takeaway order home and everyone was really hungry and ready to eat. Now we're no experts, but we've eaten our fair share of Chinese food (Matt's half Chinese for god's sakes) and this was not a good experience. The mixed vegetables, sizzling chicken and sizzling steak were sub par lacking taste and were a little bland. We also had 2 orders of Steamed Dim Sum and San Choy Bow, which were good, but having it with the rest of the meal just didn't seem to sit right. It could have been an off night for them since others have said to have a good experience, so we may give it one more try. Keep you posted. read more
