Food is typical of buffet food, OK at best. Most of the food could have been warmer and, overall, food more 'taste'. There was a good selection of food. Service was good. Our drinks remained full while there. Everything was clean, but a good cleaning would help, especially the carpet. Food was not great. they lied about the price over the phone so they got me on that as well. the noodles were stale. my cup was not refilled at all. everything tasted like it was from the day before. overall it was too pricey for the quality(there was no quality). i recommend you save your money and go elsewhere also i forgot to mention the shrimp smelled like it was expired and had a very bad taste i've been thinking some more lately about my review and i really do believe that i was a tad bit lenient. everyone who i went and ate with immediately ate as soon as we got home because we did not enjoy the food. the water had a toilet smell to it. everyone at the food bar was not wearing gloves and food was not cleaned up at the bar. the restrooms were dirty and smell bad. please save your money and visit the place in vidalia, much worth the drive read more

My wife loves this place and we frequent it at least once a month for sure. Being that it is a buffet we can usually find enough to eat that we like. Most of the time there seems to be an over abundance of seafood, which is good if you like seafood which unfortunately we do not. Kinda wish they would maybe have a couple of non seafood nights and fill the bar with other variable dishes to choose from. Came at the beginning of dinner, so the lunch food was still being changed out. They have a nice variety of chicken dishes. One entire buffet tonight was seafood. They also have a few American dishes for the picky eaters and kids. The main room was a bit warm, was told it was from the doors being opens all day. I think the A/C needs servicing. We were in the side room and if not for the ceiling fans would still of been to warm to of eaten. Was not busy when we went so was nice and quiet.they do have a fresh sushi area too.the staff are always very friendly, and tonight was no exception.it is not the best Chinese I have ever had, but the best in this area. read more

We've returned to Chow Time twice since the original review, and we're confident this establishment is a keeper, maybe three and a half stars. We're especially pleased with the sushi. There's a good selection and it's all fresh and well prepared. And did we mention it's all you can eat? Yes, of course, this is not world class sushi and sashimi, but given that the buffet is $8.98 weekdays and a dollar more on weekends, and you can put away just sushi if you wish, it's a pretty good deal. The rest of the buffet is typical: beef broccoli, chicken broccoli, spring rolls, General Tso's chicken, lo mein, boiled shrimp, ribs, steamed and fried rice, an assortment of greens, etc. You know it well, we're sure. If you're reading this you already know the choice you SHOULD make, yet we both know the choice (or mistake) you probably will make.. this was the worst food I have had in statesboro. $15 for some cold hard crusty noodles, "sushi" with probably two hour old shrimp tempura that had old teriyaki sauce dried up on top of it. The best part of the buffet was the fried rice, which tasted straight of of a microwaveable bag. As soon as the first bite of "sesame chicken" went down my throat I immediately felt my stomach churning, eager to reject the vile substance that has entered its way into my temple. This is all to say, if you have any plans for the rest of the evening, this "restaurant" should be avoided at all cost. Chow Time has been the only buffet to have remained in Statesboro for more than a couple of years (aside from RJ's) for a reason. I have never had anything but excellent service here! Given that it's a buffet, clearly the food is better at peak hours. The sushi is decent, especially given that it is all you can eat, and they will make something special if you ask for it. They will also grill up a noodle or rice dish with any toppings of your choice, fresh, and it's delicious! My family and I came around christmas, and as we were leaving, the man ringing us up gave us a huge box of nice chocolates. I have never been given a gift in a restaurant, and it really just goes to show how much they care about their customers. The people are always willing to chat with you and very nice in general. The man that's always behind the counter ringing people up is always really kind and helpful. Sorry to all the Atlanta people who think they are too good for this joint. In my opinion, if you got bad service here, it's probably your fault! You can't walk into a restaurant with a sour taste in your mouth and a stick up your behind and expect it to be a good experience. I've eaten food, good and bad, all over the country. The food here beats other buffets by a long shot (again, aside from RJ's). Definitely worth a try. read more

Older Asian waitress was extremely rude to me during my dining experience. Displayed attitude and said vulgar words while walking away from my table after refilling my drink that she neglected for over 20 minutes in a nearly empty restaurant. Also did not pick up my table used plates in between servings. I reported this to another worker who told me that she is known for that and will report to manager. Such a shame as I spend so much money here but will no longer. Poor service. Not worth tipping. read more

I begin by saying the array of food is NOT staggering! Typical chinese buffet that has been around for a LONG time, they offer battered/fried chicken soaked with one of 20+/- different sauces (the USUAL offerings). Originally had crab legs on the dinner buffet, you still pay the same price so you have the honor of digging pill-sized chunks of crab meat out a fried blue crab using the tip of a chopstick. There is decent-sized shrimp on the buffet, but I don't want to eat the shell of their salt and pepper shrimp. BRING OLD BAY SEASONING if you want the boiled shrimp...it is NOT seasoned in any way, shape, or form and the 'butter' doesn't even have salt in it. If you come during "off-hours" you WILL eat ice cold food, the oils having become gelatinous on everything (just the reality of buffets!!!) Even during peak meal times you come here to fill your stomach and nothing else. Ice-cold lo mein noodles, shrimp-boil cooked until the meat is pudding inside a shell that disintegrates as you attempt to access it, the occasional fried to a near-black battered chicken sitting in sauce, chicken on a stick (great when not burned to a nearly black piece of wood), what appears to me to be hummingbird hotwings (that small), etc. Most everything tastes good when it isn't burned to death or filled with pink, raw chicken (only happened ONCE to me). Strangely EVERONE I know who eats a meal there (me included) typically gets a stomach ache soon after leaving (I don't feel EVERY case could be eating to the point of vomiting!!!) Part of my 2-stars is remembering how fresh everything was when they first opened. Eggrolls were hot, vegetables were at least mildly firm, and there was SOME variation on what was served. They got LAZY and now burn nearly anything they fry, and by the taste need to clean the HECK out of the oil (which I assume looks nearly black at this point!) Want to verify? Check out the fried-to-death shrimp that's nearly black and the ICE COLD frenchfries, the tiny steaks, er, meat chewing gum, or the fried chicken pieces with NO seasoning and you'll have to agree that they've become LAZY! read more

Great meal, truly spectacular, the cost and satisfaction I received is shocking. I was completely satisfied and impressed with this restaurant. The only reason I couldn't give five stars is that some of their foods seem to be small modifications of each other, so it lacks some originality. Cleanliness seems to scare a lot of people away, but trust me, it was just fine. Over all a four star meal, 9/10 would eat again. read more

Great staff and management. Friendly, courteous, fast. Food is always fresh and hot. Sushi is good! Ginger is fresh sliced. Wasabi is not too killer hot. Egg rolls are great! Not a very good experience this time. Took the family out to eat and about 3/4 through the meal, found a roach in the rice. We asked to speak to the manager.. When the manager arrived at our table, said sorry and walked away. The manager comped one meal and had us pay for the other two. My family and I will never return to this restaurant. honestly i wouldn't have seen my self writing this review and i've been hearing bad things about this place ever since my friends had themselves a little visit here and i believe after eating today that they were completely right about it and i wish i was wrong because this isn't the chow time im used to. one of the things that were off when i walked in was they made you pay before eating and they need to fix that ASAP i don't agree with that policy at all and i believe some of the customers wouldn't agree to it either. i had a good feeling about this place but after i grabbed my first plate the chicken was juicy and not a good juicy like it had water in it and it was just like wet and felt like water was coming out the chicken and into my mouth it was one of the worst experiences ever and i felt the need to throw up as soon as it happened and my noodles were just not it, my noodles were so chewy. and who would've ever been thought chow time could get this bad at this point i recommend everyone to make the extra 20-30 min drive to go to new supper buffet in vidalia. read more

Buffett has a wide selection. Some of the standard items on the buffett are among my favorites. The Coconut shrimp and their dumplings are excellent. They keep your tea filled and plates picked up. Always a good quick choice if you like Buffett food. As with most buffetts, I avoid it at off peak hours so the food hasn't been sitting. read more

I've had worse which is a sad reflection on my willingness to subject myself to these places. I guess I am a glutton and a glutton for punishment. I feel sorry for the residents of Statesboro if this is the best option they have. What made it worse was the young man who "greeted" me didn't say a word and looked like he was pissed off at the world. Then when I went to pay he gladly took my money, still while completely ignoring me and talking on his cell phone. Up in the big city we call that lack of customer service. My wife and I have eaten at Chow Time on many occasions over the last few years. There isn't too much that can be said about a Chinese buffet - it's as you'd expect. The food is usually fresh, and there's a good variety of Chinese and American, plus Sushi and desserts. The waitresses are generally friendly and attentive. I'm not one to give a terrible review but as a former 13 year veteran of food and beverage server I think that something should have been done. It was my second visit with my husband and i decided to try a soup and hibachi. I picked out my hibachi food items and while it was being cooked I poured myself wonton soup and scooped some freshly sliced green onions into my soup. The soup was very tasty but just as I was about to finish it I found myself with a small piece of glass in my mouth. I obviously spit it out and notified someone at the front of the restaurant. The person I told notified another lady who came out and looked at it. I assumed the manager. She took it with her wrapped in a napkin. What i didn't see happen was the soup not taken away nor the green onions. There could have been more glass in one of them. The hibachi was just ok... i had it the first time I went but this time it was full of oil. I didn't complain much while there because I understand shit happens but I'm pretty disgusted that the restaurant did not pull the soup. It would have also been a very nice gesture if we were accommodated on the bill a bit. At least the average cost of a soup. We will not be back. On a positive note the servers are great and very fast in clearing used plates. Despite the great servers we will not be back . Food quality matters too. read more

After several Chinese-styled buffets have gone belly up in quick succession at this location, it appears that the owners of Chow Time may finally be able to hang on for the long term. I am not completely sure why Chow Time is packing the parking lot practically every day when its very similar predecessors maintained a mostly empty parking lot. They charge a bit more than other Chinese buffets have charged here in Statesboro, but they also offer more food. Maybe that's the secret. If you want to chow down big time, Chow Time unsurprisingly does not disappoint, and you will need to loosen your belt a few notches after you have had your fill. Evidently, there are plenty of folks out there who enjoy that kind of a routine, and the name of the restaurant makes it abundantly clear in case anyone was uncertain about what might be accomplished on a visit there. So, maybe the name of the restaurant is the key to its success. In summary, tons of buffet grub, large variety of buffet grub, a bit more expensive, mostly inauthentic Chinese food cooked according to the preference of Statesboro locals, which is to say largely deep-fried and with lots of oil and salt. I imagine that the owners and staff could care less about my review, they've got the customers streaming in, and yes, I've eaten there myself a few times, I chowed down, and I didn't get sick afterwards, so I'll be going back again. One other important point, they always use fresh mushrooms, never canned, which in my view is the gold standard for Chinese-styled restaurants. For that much alone, they deserve to survive and prosper. read more

Normally, I'm not one to complain about people not being able to speak English but I had a question about some of the food they cook and none of the people there spoke or seemed to understand what I was saying.
