I'm a former Wilmington local now living in Nashville, but I go back about six times a year to visit family. I was looking for a nearby sushi place I found on Yelp. I saw this restaurant as I was approaching. Since the sushi place had fairly poor reviews, I decided to have some Thai food, instead. It was a good decision. I only had a single item - Thai Spice Chicken (item T3 on their menu). It was spectacular and went great with a couple Singha beers. I like my Thai food spicy, so that's how they made it. They even brought me a side of their homemade hot sauce to add if I wanted to. I was by myself and my bill was a little over $20, including the two beers. Very reasonable for the quality and the amount of food I got. I could only eat a little over half of it. The service was great. Even though it's in a small strip center which is usually a turn-off for me, they have made the most of it with the decor and low lighting levels. It's a nice place. When I go back to Wilmington for my next visit, I will go back to Thai Spice. Right up there with the time when I was six and my dad took me to a deserted bay and we opened oysters on the beach with a screwdriver from the trunk of his car and ate them raw right on the beach. Right up there with the first time I had sushi on a trip to NYC back in the 80s. I will remember this meal as the best I have ever had in any Thai restaurant, and I've been to many all over the US. If you have a chance to go here for a meal and you don't, you're cheating yourself. I will be back on my next trip to Wilmington in a couple more months. read more

This was one of the worst service I have EVER experienced dining out. We arrived when there was still open tables. They provided us two sets of silverware for three people dining. Our 4 year old was never asked if she wanted anything to drink. When the guy who seated us brought our drinks we asked for another water for our 4 year old. Our 4 year old said thank you as he slammed the glass on the table and walked away. The waitress finally came 15 minutes later and quickly took our order. The food then started coming out one plate at a time. Each plate was dropped off, but the dirty plates were never cleared off. In the course of the hour and a half we were there we only saw our waitress to take our order. Our drinks were empty and dirty plates lay on the table. The food was decent which is a shame because the service was terrible and that just ruined the entire meal. read more

Our party of five was staying in Carolina Beach and wanted to venture out. The location is a little odd but the FOOD IS AMAZING. The service was wonderful and the inside is sweet. Great value. The food was amazing and clearly all homemade. The crab rangoons were super fresh and crunchy. I got a glass noodle dish with tofu and the tofu was delicious, although the onions were barely cooked. Great little Thai place in our neighborhood of Monkey Junction. We always get take-out: the service is always fast and friendly; the food is always hot and correct as ordered. Pretty good food they use quality ingredients. It does lack a little flavor. I feel the chef has to appeal to older clientel. Just ask for more flavor and you'll get it. For the junction its good, better than driving to indocine across town which has gone a little downhill. read more

The major reason for the 2 stars is the speed of the food being served and the larb and beef Nam tok was not authentic enough in terms of spices. My kids enjoyed the beef noodle soup but it could be that they waited for an hour and was hungry. I will try other Thai restaurants in the area but I would choose another restaurant if I had other options. read more

Good food. Good service. I love the Thai spiced wings. Tom Yum is very good (I get it Thai hot with shrimp). The sushi is amazing and the green curry is good too. It's a cozy place and you don't have to wait for a table. It's also affordable and good for kids. My son begs to go there for the beef fried rice. read more

The decor is great. The food, however, is a different story.... I lived in Thailand for 3 months, I love Thai food. REAL Thai food has no MSG, and this one did. They say it doesn't but it does. I ordered the shrimp tum yum soup and it literally had 2 shrimp in it and was full of MSG, which tells me the chef doesn't know how to cook. Why do you need to put MSG in food? If you know how to cook you don't need any silly additives. The pad thai and the basil noodles where just blah and had added sugar, which real Thai food doesn't. BTW, I am allergic to MSG and was swollen for 2 days after leaving this place. If you don't mind having chemicals and bad additives in your food, go ahead and go. High quality Thai food. I was new to this place until my fiancé introduced it. Many people I knew came here and raved about the food. I'm not one to be very adventurous with my meals but I figured if she told me it was good it had to be. She didn't steer me wrong. I hate when I forget my camera to take pics of the food I eat. I had dinner there last night and ordered the Drunken Noodle dish with Tofu minus the egg. DELICIOUS. The dish had the perfect amount of seasoning and the basil leaves were wonderful and added a surprisingly good and unexpected flavor. I wished they added more basil leaves. I think I will request extra next time. My companions had the Pineapple Fried Rice and all three of them said it was delicious. Even if you like VERY spicy food, like two of my companions do, take the waiter's advice and start with MEDIUM spiciness because it is HOT. My two companions were glad that they took the waiter's advice, b/c MEDIUM was plenty spicy for them. You can always add more heat to your dish with spices that the waiter can leave table-side. I also heard that the Spring Rolls are yummy. It did take us a while to get our food, but it was worth the wait. read more

I just had some food at this place that use to be called Thai Spice but now ii is called Chow Thai. I was disappointed to find out that the originals Thai dishes are not available any longer. We love coming here! HUGE portions and lots of options for any diet/dietary restriction. Service is usually on the slow side, sometimes very slow, hence the 4 stars. But the service is also always friendly and accommodating, just slow! The lunch prices are super reasonable and i always walk away with leftovers at dinner. read more

Be warned they are terrible at estimating take out times. Will tell you 25 minutes but when you get there and it's not ready for another 20 minutes. They have no clue up front when orders will be ready and their customer service is non existent. read more

My boyfriend and I had made Thai Spice our go-to Thai food spot in Wilmington. We're not from the area, but he comes to visit me often since I go to university in the area. The restaurant itself is quite small, but it's not often too busy when we go so we never found the need for a reservation. I noticed that many customers come in to get take out. The decoration is minimal and seating is arranged in straight rows. The reason why we love this restaurant so much is the quality of pad Thai. It's my boyfriend's favorite food, so he's particular about how it's made. He loves that it not too sweet and was flavored enough for his taste. The portion is usually large enough to share, which is usually what we hope for. The spice level is always difficult to determine since every Thai restaurant's scale is 1-10 so it just depends on the chef. So he likes to get it around 2-3 and ask for chili peppers on the side to adjust. He gets the same thing every time. I often like to try different dishes at the restaurant. The sushi rolls are good, but a bit overpriced so I only order them a couple times. The fish is usually fresh, and the presentation is beautiful. Their coconut cake is really good, but Genki still makes the best cake in my opinion. Overall, we keep coming back. Give it a try. read more

Writing this as I'm driving away from this place. It's a very slow night....maybe 6 tables of people. We sat down at a booth and proceeded to sit there for 10 minutes, servers chatting in the back, refilling drinks of other tables, the hostess texting on her phone. One server even walked past our table with a full drink for herself. Not once were we addressed. No one even asked us if we wanted a drink, let alone if we wanted food. My husband and I stopped in for dinner and enjoyed s top notch meal. I ordered the Thai spice chicken which is a house specialty and the incredible flavors were mouthwatering.
