However, I still wouldnt know it because Danielle made me a model...and my fiance, who seriously looked like he was impersonating Stevie Wonder in most of our pics. HA She knew when the light would be perfect for our shoot. She was great at directing us to make the perfect picture (where to put arms, head, hair, etc). I was super nervous, but she made you feel so comfortable. It was a lot of fun to do! My body is not perfect, but she made me feel like a supermodel! I felt so confident after the session! She responds to questions quickly - brides always love fast communication - and is super helpful with suggestions. She has a great eye for capturing things so beautifully. Being the ultimate planner I looked into newborn photos a few months before my baby girl even made…read moreher debut into this crazy world. A few friends had passed on contact info for their favorite photographers around Chicagoland. I checked them all out and was shocked to see that most of them were around $500 for newborn photos, which at the time seemed a bit crazy to me since I think all newborns look alike. Or at least I used to think that until I gave birth to the cutest newborn ever...yeah, you could say I'm a bit biased. ;) I was also surprised that some of these photographers were booked 6 months out. Apparently there are people out there who plan even earlier than I do! I recalled that some friends had used Jen Soares for adorable pics of their kiddies so decided to shoot her an email. Jen had a few openings a few weeks after my baby's due date and she was $100 for a newborn session, which even includes a CD of all the final photos. I booked her immediately! When my baby was 2 weeks old Jen and her husband, Mike, showed up for our scheduled appointment with their cameras in hand. The baby was having a bit of a meltdown...and my hubby and I were doing our best to calm her down.Meanwhile, Jen and Mike worked their photographer magic and started snapping away! They were in and out within 30 minutes (which was about all we could handle at the time). Fortunately, in this short amount of time they managed to take a ton of cute photos of the baby alone, family shots and even of our pu! After they left I was a bit worried we wouldn't get any cute ones for a birth announcement since she was so hysterical, but we had so many good ones to choose from that I ended up using 4 photos on the birth announcement! While Jen has only been available on the weekends in the past, she just started doing photography full-time so she'll now be available during the week days as well. She mentioned in 2011 she'll be charging $100 for week days and $150 for weekends, which is still quite the deal. It's such a great deal that I'm planning on having her come back to take more photos every few months. And hopefully our baby will greet Jen and Mike with a smile next time!

I really liked the fact that she came to our condo to take the photographs. She showed up on time and started working right away so we got our full hour with her. It was definitely worth the money. We had some photo ideas/poses in mind and Jen suggested some as well and we just winged the rest. We LOVE how the pictures turned out and will treasure them always. We had a venue booked, and a date, and that was about it - we didn't really know what else we were doing. When Gail asked what time we needed her to arrive on our wedding day, we had no idea. Of course, Gail is so accustomed to weddings that she ended up planning our day-of schedule for us in order to figure out when she needed to arrive. So, we got some wedding planning help as an added bonus. Gail takes beautiful, non-gimmicky, photojournalistic wedding photos. My sweetheart is not a person who loves a camera, but Gail made him feel at ease, and even got him to smile for a few pictures. Gail is unobtrusive, which was very important because we got married in a small side room at a restaurant which was a tight squeeze already. Gail didn't get in the way at all, she was like a photo-ninja and took outstanding photos without me even noticing that she was taking them. Gail alerted us that she would take a little longer than usual on editing and sending us our photos because of a planned trip. Even though she gave us a heads-up on the timing issue, she still offered us a photo print credit for the delay. Gail delivered our photos in less than two months of the wedding, and all the photos look awesome. Gail has no gimmicks, no goofy suggestions for weird Pinteresty photos (unless you're into that, which is fine, and I'm sure she'd support you 100%). She takes good photos, is wonderfully calm and kind, and is a pleasure to spend time with!

We quickly decided to go with her as our photographer, and as part of the package she included an engagement photo session, which was helpful: my now-husband doesn't always love having his picture taken, so it gave us a change to meet her and work with her before the wedding day. We chose a very different venue for the engagement photos than for our wedding, so it was cool to see what Ingrid did with the different spaces, lighting, etc. She also went out of her way to source a different type of light for the wedding day photos, since I have photosensitivity issues and the flash going off all night could have been a problem. (The photos we have seen so far look great!) For each session, we got some teaser photos within a handful of days, and the entire collection came/are scheduled to come about a month later. Her crew, consisting of Ryan (second photographer) and Morgan (assistant), were both professional and nice to work with. They powered through our shot list and checked with me a couple of times to make sure we could gather people or to see what was still missing. We loved that she cared about our love story so she knew as as people and not just as clients. Instead of having a zoom meeting a month before the wedding, she came over in person with cookies and tea. She definitely reassured us that she works with a team of independent photographers, so that she has a great second photographer, and a backup for herself should she get sick/etc and be unable to photograph day of. Her second photographer (Ryan), and her assistant were all so great day of the wedding. She sent us a ton of preview photos the next day, and we're super excited to see the whole lot of photos when they are all edited. If you want to spend money on a wedding photographer who cares about your story and you guys as a couple, and you love someone who's a little kooky but in the best way, Ingrid is your person!!
