Katie did such a wonderful job for our Mother & Daughter photoshoot! Her eye for lighting is exquisite and she was so helpful giving us direction, as we're not typically in front of a camera. We are so happy with every picture that came out! Our experience was so fun and relaxing, we were able to feel very comfortable shooting with her -- and on the streets of Lincoln Park with lots of people, which is such a talent!! Katie would be the perfect photographer for any family portraits (all ages), headshots, events, etc. read more

We had the absolute best experience working with Katie for our newborn photos. From the very beginning, she made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera and guided us into poses that felt completely natural--not stiff or forced at all. We did the session with our baby, and Katie was incredible at calming her when needed and patiently capturing the perfect shots. The final photos were exactly what we wanted--beautiful, timeless, and full of genuine emotion. We are completely in love with them and will treasure them forever. We can't wait to work with Katie again soon and would recommend her a thousand times over to anyone looking for a photographer. read more

Katie did an amazing job taking our family pictures. She chose beautiful city backgrounds, advised us on timing, even provided guidance on clothing choices that I wasn't sure of. We had our teenage son and a high energy family dog, and Katie did an amazing job capturing both of them with great patience and talent. The results are amazing- couldn't be happier! read more

Katie was AMAZING to work with for a twin senior photo shoot. She is very knowledgeable about city locations for the best backgrounds to make a photo pop. Katie helped my teens feel at ease and relaxed to bring out their personalities in the photos, and we never felt rushed. My son was skeptical of "senior photos," but when we were done he exclaimed that it was actually really fun. Katie was patient with my daughter who wanted multiple outfit changes. We got so many beautiful digital images it's hard to choose a favorite. read more

Katie is wonderful to work with! We used her for a corporate event and she was responsive and professional from start to finish. Her photos were fantastic, and we are sending some to participants as a thank you for attending. I highly recommend her! read more

I absolutely love the variety of photos Katie took of me and my 3 month old son. As a new mom (not totally feeling great about my body) and someone who is not comfortable in front of a camera generally, I was nervous. However, Katie was so great at giving direction and making me feel completely at ease. Plus, she made me look stunning (thank you!). She made the photoshoot fun and knew exactly how to handle a grumpy, hungry baby. I'll definitely be hiring her for future shoots for my family. read more

Katie is absolutely incredible! She is so talented at photography and we could not be happier with our newborn and family photos that she took for us. Katie captured SO many sweet photos of our daughter and of our whole family including our dog. Also, Katie made it so easy and comfortable the entire time she was with us and it genuinely felt like we were just spending time with a friend. She has such an eye for great lighting, colors, and backgrounds and we were amazed at how awesome the photos turned out and how Katie transformed our home into a great backdrop for them. We love Katie so much and will forever treasure the photos she captured. We could not recommend her more for any photography needs. Thank you Katie! read more

Katie has done 3 mini sessions for my family now and has continued to succeed in capturing pure joy. She takes time to get to know you through easy conversation and then that translates to her ability to capture beautiful moments. She's incredibly patient as well in working with young children as evidenced through the way she could help wrangle my toddler and adapt to the need to move around quickly and sometimes change course for particular shots. We are excited to use the photos she took for holiday cards, gifts and more! Thank you Katie! read more

I can't say enough good things about Katie. She's everything you want in a photographer. She is kind, patient, flexible and super amazing at what she does. She did our wedding photography at Greenhouse Loft in September 2013. She also did our rehearsal dinner photos. She was able to capture the moment beautifully and her second shooter, Lindsay, was also amazing. When we got our photos back, she provided us with a very easy login and downloadable file. She must have went through thousands of photos and she picked out the absolute gems. I highly recommend hiring them for any event, be it wedding, couple shoot, family photo shoot, anything. All of her work is fantastic. Katie is hands down the best! read more

We had an amazing experience with Katie! She shot our newborn session when our baby was 2.5 weeks old. She was great with communication leading up to, during, and after the session. As new, tired parents that was important! Our baby was in a fussy mood because of some digestive issues and she was great with him and patient to make sure she caught him at the best times. The pictures of our son and family turned great and we were so pleased and excited to share them with family and friends! Highly recommend! read more

We've hired Katie for two photo shoots now--first a big family photo shoot for my mom's 60th birthday and most recently a newborn shoot. We could not be more thrilled with how the photos for each session turned out. The big family shoot covered 11 people (including 3 young children), which would be a lot for anyone to corral, but Katie made it both easy and fun. The photos she delivered were a perfect mix of stunning candids and full family shots that everyone was happy with and several of these photos have made their way into prime spots on the wall in each of our houses. We just did newborn photos with Katie for our first, and they are all incredible! I have no idea how we'll ever decide which ones to frame because each photo she took of our son and us with him was more stunning than the last. One of our friends commented that they belonged in a magazine and I couldn't agree more. That's entirely to Katie's credit for making us look so good! Katie took newborn photos in a hospital toward the beginning of her photography career, and her long history with this shows. She was so kind, gentle, and patient with our little guy during the shoot, and made sure she didn't leave without capturing all of the key pictures we'd had in mind. I heartily recommend Katie for any photography needs. Her photos are superb and delivered on time, and she makes it easy to order professional copies or print your own. We have recommended her to family and friends without hesitation. I look forward to reaching out to Katie again next time we need our family photos updated! read more

Katie Basil photographed my son's rehearsal dinner at The Public House in Chicago last month. She did an amazing job! Her images told the "story" of the event with freshness and originality. They were hip without being mannered or precious. She got some absolutely extraordinary shots that moved me to tears. What an eye! I had considered being lazy and just using the photo team hired by the bride's parents. I'm so glad I went in another direction. I'd hire Katie again in a second. In fact, when I have grandbabies, I'd love to have her photograph them. Deborah Chud, MD Chestnut Hill, MA read more

We hired Katie this fall to shoot our wedding weekend (it was a time-intensive, bridezilla-without-a-bride, 2 day event) and can not begin to express how happy we are, on multiple levels. As anyone planning a wedding knows, it can be an extraordinarily stressful process culminating in a few short hours that go by too quickly. Katie's pictures serve as the perfect summation reminding us of how much fun we had. About a month before the date Katie set up time to talk about the weekend, get a sense for what we wanted and make sure she was prepared. A friend of ours offered to shoot our wedding for us as a gift (very generous-and we accepted, but wanted to have another eye to capture the day)...and Katie also spent time coordinating with him to ensure they could complement each other. I felt so comfortable with the event in her hands. On the day of the wedding, Katie was early and ready to shoot...and had actually already started shooting. Guests loved her-she had a great ability to organize people so as to be efficient but not pushy (that's a delicate balance to strike). ...and during the entire weekend, she went above and beyond...if I had the budget, I would pay her a second time for all of the hard work. A few weeks after the wedding we received the pictures and we were beyond happy. She was able to capture all that was sweet/fun/loving/hilarious/beautiful about the weekend. She shot outdoors at Belmont Harbor on a rainy afternoon and it looked beautiful. She shot aboard an 83 ft. boat and used the city as a spectacular backdrop for family photos. She captured so many little details at the Chicago Yacht Club that looking through the album, we felt like we were there again. And the next day, at our reception at A New Leaf: all I can say is amazing. She captured the energy of the event in all its ebbs and flows. Tears in my sister's eyes as she toasted balanced with my red face during my best man's roast, er toast. Sweet moments during our first dance followed by the energy of the dance floor during Like a Prayer (it was a big gay wedding after all). She worked the hell out of the space using the exposed brick and flowers as delicate accents to photographs of our guests. In all, we couldn't be happier we chose Katie Basil as our Photographer. She put her heart into capturing our wedding and it shows in the pictures. Thanks Katie! read more

If I could give Katie more stars, I would. Katie was wonderful to work with. We were lucky enough to have her do our newborn photo shoot and the results were perfect. Not only were the photos beyond expectation, so was working with Katie. I felt like we had a family friend over taking the photos. She was so sweet and understanding and we felt so comfortable with her and her ideas. We never felt rushed, forced, or like this was 'just a job'. You could tell this is her passion and you can see it in the photos. We will definitely work with Katie again if the opportunity arises and I would definitely recommend her to anyone! read more

Katie took our engagement photos a few weeks ago and we couldn't be happier that we chose her to take them. She made us feel so comfortable and we had more fun than we thought (I tend to shy away from the camera). When we got our photos, we were absolutely elated at how spectacular they look. Katie's work proves that she is definitely one of the best photographers in Chicago. read more

Katie Basil Photography is outstanding! We received a recommendation from a friend to contact Katie for a newborn photoshoot. I am so glad we reached out to her, as Katie did a phenomenal job from start to finish. First off, Katie's correspondence via email and phone was prompt and professional, and she answered my 800 questions thoroughly and with much patience. On the day of, Katie arrived quite prepared with props, and just an overall great demeanor. This photoshoot involved a 9-day-old baby, and a few pics of some additional family members, so I was worried about timing and how it would go. Katie made these worries go away immediately saying she understands that newborns can take a little while longer and that she was here to help. Our little guy was a bit fussy at first, so Katie helped calm him and also waited patiently while we quickly got him a small bottle to relax him. Then the photoshoot commenced and Katie knew exactly what to do. The shots she took were beautiful and our son looked adorable. She did a great job with our family shots, as well. We had a few family members visiting from out of town, so she was able to quickly capture a few photos of them and our baby, too. Katie just went above and beyond, and our photos turned out great. She had them ready for viewing in less than two weeks, which was fantastic. I would highly recommend Katie for your photography needs! Thanks Katie! read more

We hired Katie to take newborn photos of our daughter, and it was a great experience! She was an absolute pleasure to work with, and was very patient through feedings, diaper changes, etc. We never felt rushed. Also, we appreciated that Katie had excellent ideas for shots/poses, but she also made sure to ask if there was anything in particular we wanted to make sure she captured. The photos turned out great, and we received many compliments. We look forward to working with Katie again as baby gets older! read more

Katie is the best! She is very approachable, very resourceful, very friendly, very sweet, very flexible and an amazing photographer. I can guarantee you that if you work with her, you are going to get the best pictures that you have ever seen. My two boys (2 and 5) were running around the entire time and she somehow created the most amazing pictures from the session. These are by far the best pictures of my boys and our family. They are so natural, so happy looking and such amazing pictures that we will cherish for years to come. I could literally not choose among the pictures and bought 2 wall decors that can in total fit 40-50 pictures! How crazy is that. Just do yourself a favor and hire her. You will be amazed and wonder why you were going to other places so far. read more

We recently hired Katie for an in-home photo shoot with our new baby, and we could not have been happier with the experience or the resulting photos. She was so patient, working with us to make sure we got all of the shots we wanted. She definitely over-delivered on our digital gallery - the photos were beautifully edited and delivered on time. We will work with and recommend Katie Basil Photography in the future! read more

We really enjoyed having Katie in our home for our newborn session. Our baby came 3 weeks early so needless to say we were a little unprepared in general; I knew I wanted professional photos but I had done zero research. Finally at about 2 weeks old I mustered up enough energy to look into it. I found Katie based on yelp reviews. She was very easy to get a hold of and we were able to schedule an appointment that worked for us (my husband's job is not very flexible) within about a weeks time (also impressive given it was the holiday season). Katie is very easy to talk to and makes you and your baby feel very comfortable throughout the entire session. She has a 2 year old son and you can tell she is comfortable with babies and knows how to calm them down if they are getting to be fussy. The shots she gave us were great and I am so happy that we worked with her. I am thinking we need to book another session when our little man is bigger! read more
