Now, that being said, for breakfast, we wanted to keep it light because we would be traveling later that afternoon and didn't want to feel heavy making our way to the airport. It was also Easter Sunday, so most places were closed. Easter is a nationally recognized holiday in parts of Europe, so it's treated much like Thanksgiving or Christmas and most stores were closed. Both factors limited our options, but thankfully this coffee shop was open for business. It was located around the corner from where we were staying, so it was really convenient. They offered an array of pastries and coffee options. We ordered the croissant, fruit tart, blueberry & cream cheese muffin. We also ordered a latte complete with latte art! I think of all the pastries, the croissant was my personal favorite. It was flaky & tasted fresh (not sitting out all day). Although there are many other coffee options in the area, this one is worth trying!

The cafe was very bright and many people were sitting and enjoying their lunch. The space is a bit small and narrow, but they have done a good job of spacing the tables, and most tables are long and you share with others. The staff spoke English and was very nice. You can order to take away or sit down and review a menu and order from the table. There are daily fresh specials to chose from, and I chose the jambon cru + hummus wrap with carrot soup for only 16 CHF. I also tried one of their home made ice teas which was fantastic. I was reading a pamphlet while I waited for my food, and they pride themselves in using organic and local products as much as possible. They also sell many of the items that they use (Jam, hazelnut spread, loaves of bread, etc). The food was fresh and tasty. I loved that they had fresh ground pepper and salt. I was enjoying my time here and decided to choose one of the many fresh yummy fruit tarts - Pear and Chocolate to go with an espresso. The espresso came with a small pitcher of fresh warmed milk. While the coffee itself wasn't the greatest, a bit of fresh brown sugar and the warm milk helped that along. Next time I will need to try some of their tea, which I later noticed everyone seemed to be getting.

I love just how many flavors there were to choose from besides the typical fruits that everywhere else offers. And the macarons themselves are delicious! Laduree in Cours de Rive is the Geneva branch of the famous French store. The boxes come in units of 8, 12, 15 and so forth, with the 8 piece starting at I believe CHF19.20. The gift boxes cost a little more, and I got an 8 piece for around CHF25. Wanting to cleanse my palette of the McCafe macaron experience, i also decided to purchase a single salted caramel macaron for myself, but the lady behind the counter kindly offered it for free. Which really was kind of her, considering that each of those little things cost CHF2.40. Verdict: macarons are hugely overrated. Clearly, my Laduree macaron was exponentially more delicious than my McCafe one. And considering the McCafe macaron was also CHF1.90, Laduree's price isn't per se unreasonable. Nonetheless, CHF2.40 for a little cake sandwich roughly 1 inch in diameter? I can think of plenty other places where I can better expend my sugar intake.

Atmosphere 3/5: The restaurant's atmosphere reminds me those french bistro in Paris. Nothing over the top for this restaurant, the main attraction when you're eating your lunch is the people trying to catch their Bus since it is located right next to a major Bus station and a crossroad. Food 4/5: I ordered a main dish of the Beef Carpaccio with fries. It was good, a little bit too oily maybe but the meat was good and the fries were perfectly done. My friend had a Niçoise Salad as the main dish. The salad was large enough and it was fresh. Service 1/5: Service wasn't really good. The waiter first was a little bit offended that we sat at a table that was reserved (quiet hard to know when there's no sign). He then had an attitude when we wanted to eat only appetizers so we were in the obligation to eat entrée sizes which was fine since we didn't know how big the portion are and it took forever to bring the check. Overall a 3/5, I would still go eat there because the food is quiet good but it's one of those restaurants I will think twice before having lunch there because of the Service.
