My favorite here by far is the curry laksa -- it's so good, but the beware the mild-hearted cos it's on the spicy side! The salted egg yolk shrimp, kangkong belacan, and any of the curries are also very good. Jeck's has been around for a long time and very popular among the international crowd, especially Asians. Whenever I'm in Geneva, I drop by... sometimes multiple times in a week! It never disappoints.

We had a reservation for 7:30 but really didn't need it as, except for a couple of other tables, it was quite. Complimentary Shrimp Chips was a nice touch. We started with aDim Sum (Shrimp-4 pieces) appetizer. Light and tasty with Soy Sauce. Ballantines and Singha were the beverages for the meal. For a spicy dish, we got the Noodles Crevet (Malaysian) with Shrimp and Chicken. Just the right amount of heat and was enjoyed. Form the Menu's "Suggestion" section we went with the Crispy Beef. This is not a spicy dish -the seasoned crunchy beef was delicious. Our original Server was friendly and left before we finished. Our second server was friendly also. That said, service suffered a bit as he was the only server (although it wasn't busy). Overall, smaller, cozy spot with an extensive menu (almost overwhelming) of Malaysian/Singaporean/Thai cuisine.

Restaurant L'Escalade - Very quaint inside!

This quaint little restaurant is serving up some pretty delicious Southern French fare. Now I am no…read moreexpert in French cuisine... so I can't vouch for how legitimately French the food is... particularly since this restaurant has gone through some personal reinvention (apparently used to serve Spanish food before) BUT this is definitely a place worth trying if your main goal is to leave happy and satisfied. I ordered the Escalade menu which is an extremely moderately priced (relative to Geneva) 3-course menu of salad, entree (the American kind not the French) and a dessert. The salad was fantastic... not your usual side salad with one slice of carrot on iceberg lettuce... this one had a mesclun mix of greens, tomatoes, thinly shaved cheese and some sort of duck sliced meat. The beef dish came with some heavenly bechamel carrot and salsify casserole type sides, broccoli, plus a full order of fries. It was quite a lot of food. And then for dessert I opted for the chocolate mousse... I'm still salivating. They have a modest selection of wines... very reasonably priced (4-8 CHF). The waiter was very attentive and was happy to answer my questions in English, Spanish or Portuñol... and patiently entertained my 4-5 French phrases with a smile (the good kind). All in all it was a fantastic evening in great company.

For the weird time, it was still pretty crowded. Vietnamese spring rolls - tasted like they left it in the fryer for a tad too long Salt and pepper fried squid - the flavor was okay, but it wasn't really that crispy. This had the opposite problem of the spring rolls. Chicken and salted fish fried rice - very little salted fish. In fact, I'm not sure there was even any in there because I didn't really taste the salted fish. It was pretty much just chicken fried rice, which wasn't bad. Beef with vegetables - pretty standard. The portions are small (at least compared to NYC) but with the amount we ordered, it was enough for two people. We had some leftovers. So if you are doing family style and have a large group, you might want to order a bit more. I'm not sure how many other Chinese restaurants are in town but I'm thinking there has to be a better one somewhere. Basic food aside, the atmosphere is kind of shady. Apparently there's a gambling machine in the back by the restroom, with shady dudes hanging around by it and smoking cigarettes. Maybe takeout and bringing it back to the hotel would have been a better option.
