Everything from lamb to chicken was delectable. And a brown basmati rice prepared with almonds, sliced carrots, and raisins!! Service was not great, but mostly due to their being so busy. Loved this restaurant! It was very busy during even weekdays, as a lot of people have reservations (you can call them). Make sure you are going to the right address as there are multiple locations. My favorite dish was the lamb rice - so tender and flavorful. Even the carrot strips in it were naturally sweet. Other dishes were great too. I also need to mention that Yama has been a great host. Very good afghan food - the chicken and lamb skewers are fantastic and the lamb dish (no 49 in the menu) was awesome - really worth trying

This is likely one of my most favorite ethnic restaurants in Munich. They serve afghani food that is very similar to Persian food. I have been here three times and this time was my first time after a couple of years. Although everything still tastes amazing and well prepared, the prices have increased considerably and because they have expanded to a second space two doors down, if you are sitting in the annex, service is very slow. I ordered their yogurt side dish with my mixed grill plate )which was amazing) but it arrived almost after I was finished with my main dish and I ended up eating it as a dessert. read more

Das Restaurant hat mich aufgrund der folgenden Rezension bereits 3 Mal der Diffamierung beschuldigt, statt sich anständig zu entschuldigen. Entscheide selbst, was du davon hältst: Mein Mann und ich haben am 7. Dezember 2024 um 18:30 einen Tisch reserviert, waren aber schon ca. 10 Minuten früher dort. Zu Beginn lief alles einwandfrei und wir waren vollends begeistert vom Essen. Wir gönnten uns Apero, Vorspeise, Hauptgang, Wein, Dessert und Tee. Auch die Bedienung wirkte anfangs sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Diese tolle Stimmung konnten wir leider nicht bis zum Ende beibehalten. Um ca. 20:10 brachte uns die Bedienung unaufgefordert die Rechnung mit der Begründung: "Der Kollege sagte mir sie wollen bezahlen." Wir sagten dann, dass dies eigentlich nicht der Fall sei, bezahlten dann aber trotzdem. Um etwa 20:20 wurden wir dann gebeten den noch angefangenen Tee möglichst bald zu Ende zu trinken und zu gehen, da der Tisch für andere Gäste benötigt werde. Da mir dies ziemlich die Stimmung vermieste sagte ich der Bedienung dann beim Gehen, dass Sie den Gästen doch bereits am Telefon sagen sollen, dass der Tisch nur für eine begrenzte Zeit zur Verfügung stehe. Wir hätten nämlich auch problemlos bereits um 18:00 erscheinen können. Die Bedienung sagte dann zwar, dass dies normalerweise der Fall sei, aber scheinbar ging dies bei uns vergessen. Klar, dies kann ja mal passieren. Dennoch finde ich es sehr unhöflich den Gästen unaufgefordert die Rechnung zu bringen mit einer plumpen Ausrede, vor allem dann, wenn wir für 117.- Euro konsumiert haben. Not great . Not sure what's all the raves about. basic food with below average service.

We walked inside one evening as a group of three at around 8:45pm with no reservation but were easily accommodated at the bar area within just a few minutes. Our server was super friendly and made easy recommendations for starters, dinner, and dessert as we dined for the next two hours or so and highly enjoyed the delicious meal here. It's beautiful inside with a menu of traditional Afghani dishes and all of them are probably wonderful. I was trying to go light on the bread after eating so many pastries and treats for 9 days in Munich, so I went with a vegetarian dish with spinach rice and eggplant and loved every bite. We also had a salad, pumpkin and dumplings as an appetizer. The dumplings were divine! Perfectly, seasoned and garnished with corn and other goodies. Sooo good. So we ordered the Ashak, which are dumplings filled with leek and fresh coriander with a spicy minced beef and yogurt sauce. So good! Then, upon recommendation, we tried the Borani Kadoo, a family recipe of pumpkin in a sweet and spicy saffron sauce on a creamy yogurt sauce Served with Afghan bread. Highly recommend you try this also! I always order a salad so I got the seasonal salad with cucumber and fresh veggies. As mentioned, for my entree I went for the Badenjan Chalau e bagari, which was eggplant with ginger in a spicy sauce with fresh coriander, served with white basmati rice but I instead did the spinach rice and loved every single bite. I love good rice and this was amazing. My fiancee and his co-worker ordered chicken dishes with rice and I tasted small bites that were very good. Seasoned perfectly with some mixed veggies on the side. For dessert we tried the Gulab Jaman, a doughnut-like pastry soaked in sugar syrup and cardamom, served warm. Sooooo good! We all loved it. Food was mediocre, for an afghan restaurant I would think they make the dough fresh for bolani, but nope, the dough is a bread type of a dough. They don't sell Ashak or mantu to go cause it doesn't taste right for to go orders lmao... The guys at the counter tell s me " the women are not sitting at home making fresh dough to bring it to us to cook it so no we don't have fresh dough that we make our specialties with "! I was shocked, wtf does that mean the women are not sitting at home making dough???? Portions were small. On our last night in Munchen, we wanted something different and had walked by this place a couple nights previously. The smells drifting out enticed us so we made this a must stop prior to leaving. Many of the items sounded great but we finally decided on a couple that we were both interested in so we could share. When the food arrived, it wasn't quite what we were expecting as I was anticipating more of a curry style meal versus rice based. However, that had no impact on our enjoyment of the food. I would definitely seek out Afghan style food in the future. The loss of a star is for the lack of service. While I understand you typically need to grab your server and let them know what you want in Germany, this doesn't work when you haven't had anyone acknowledge you for 5+ minutes once you have been sat. We were on the verge of leaving when someone finally stopped by the table. In the end, I'm glad we didn't leave. This is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. read more

Food 3.5 stars. It was ok. Favorite Afghani place is still The Helmand in Maryland. Service 1.5 stars. We were having an ok time until it was time to pay and the server tells us that tip is not included. It was convenient how our table was the only one told this just because we're Americans. Server doesn't realize we understand German and this was hardly our first rodeo in Europe. Tipping is not customary in Europe! However being Americans we generally can't seem to kick the tipping habit and If they had just kept their idiot mouths shut we would have naturally tipped them. We'd been doing it unrequested at other restaurants all over Europe. So now not only did we NOT leave them something extra, we Will never return nor would We recommend. read more

We stayed at the Hilton Hotel nearby on the same Rosenheimer Strasse. So one night after walking past the filled restaurant and seeing all of the happy diners this intrigued us about the restaurant. We'd never tried Afghani food before but soon learnt that Munich is home to a huge Afghan population and, thus, some of the most authentic Afghani food available. The next night we decided to wander in and get a table. However, after checking with the owner, it was not possible. They were fully booked for the entire night. The very welcoming owner even walked down to their other restaurant a few doors down the street to enquire if they had any availabilities. They too were fully booked so we just booked a reservation for the following night (a Sunday). When we arrived at the restaurant for our reservation it was still relatively empty, but after we were seated it filled up quickly. So advice is to always book a reservation here even on the typically slower Sunday nights. As others stated it took an age before our server popped back to take our orders. Yes. That could be off putting, but they were super busy and due to our experience at this sort of 'service' where we reside we didn't push it. Once the food arrived, however, the wait was worthwhile. Basically most dishes come with basmati rice either plain or pelau. The meat and vegetables were moist, well-seasoned, and filling. Everything was great: Food, drinks (wine), and desserts. I just got takeout from Chopan. I ordered two dishes that come with sides, which were not forthcoming - and the guy then said I'd ordered two completely different things, neither of which come with sides. The "chicken" appears to actually be pigeon, and the full sized meal that cost EUR12 includes two drumsticks, no side veg, and a handful of lentils. It also has a layer of grease floating on it. The aubergine dish tastes great, but there's not even half an aubergine in it and no other veg. When I pointed out that this wasn't what I ordered and where were my sides, the guy got really shirty with me and told me I'd not ordered anything that came with sides. He then suggested I go to McDonalds next time, and if it was a choice between the two I think I would. read more

After a day of regrettable decisions at Oktoberfest we came here late. The owner told us they were closed (in absolutely perfect English) but that he could make us some take-away. He then proceeded to offer us a beer on the house and looked genuinely upset when we told him we were never drinking again. As we were walking out he shook each of our hands and said "I really hope you like this, if you don't, come back tomorrow and I'll make you something you'll love". I have never, in all my time in New York or anywhere else, seen this level of hospitality at a restaurant. I don't know what I'm going to do when I go back home. After an unforgiving day in the Haufbrau tent during Oktoberfest, Chopan offered a delicious and timely meal that was welcome and necessary. The proprietor was gracious and generous, after informing us they were closed for dining, he still had take-away plates made for us that really hit the spot. When we walked in, they just seated us, and we waited for ever until they brought us the menu, but then, the one server there threw the menu at us and went to help the other customers and never came back to help us. Amazing food. This little gourmet pearl in Munich is run by an afghan family and delivers absolutly great food. If you sit on the wall in this very small (maybe 9-10 tables) but cosy restaurant you also have a great view on a nice church. Ask for recommandations and you wont even need the menu. my personal recommandation for the starter is the pumpkin. It was absolutly amazing. For a main i had grilled lamb/chicken with rice (carrots and raisins) and aubergines. Also very tasty. Sadly we dont have anything comparable in Berlin. This is defintily a "must visit" place even if you are not looking for afghan/persian-cuisine. read more

This is without a doubt one of my favorite restaurants in Munich. The service is friendly, the owner is warm and welcoming, and the food is absolutely delicious. I am so intrigued by the mix of spices and the flavors. I didn't really know the Afghan cuisine before dining here and every time we enjoy a meal here, the owner shares some stories about the food and the recipes. My favorite starter is the pumpkin with tomato relish and cardamom: really a winner! I have tried several different lamb dishes but one remains my absolute favorite - again thanks to the spices used to cook the lamb to perfection! and the rice? truly delicious... I had never eaten Afghan food before. Chopan II was recommended by the owner of a great little ice cream shop around the corner so we tried it. As I told the owner, I could eat his food every day, three times a day for the rest of my life! I'm a vegetarian who prefers vegan most of the time and was immensely pleased with the fare. My companion is a die-hard carnivore who thoroughly enjoyed the lamb. We turned down a free meal the next night so we could return for another delicious culinary experience before leaving Munich. read more
