Sanagan's Meat Locker is not just a Butchery, but also a market that showcases many high quality artisanal and local products. Their meats are always high quality and enhances whatever recipe you are using. There's also an educational aspect to Sanagan's. If you subscribe to their newsletter, or buy Peter Sanagan's book, you learn so much about what cuts of meat to use with what types of dishes, you discover hidden gems in cuts of meat, not to mention fantastic recipes. I had never heard of flat iron steaks (one of the most tender cuts of beef and very affordable) before Sanagan's and now it's a staple in my household. You are also able to order cuts of meat that are not available at the counter (I ordered duck hearts once) as well as order ahead online. The housemade sauces and charcuterie made by Sanagan's are also delicious. They might be slightly higher priced than supermarket brands, but they're highly worth it. Everyone is also super friendly and helpful at Sanagan's, you just know that they're being treated well there.

They are nice and small with selected items such as pasta, sweets, cheese, and of course, meat and meat products. Warmth is felt through services, and also their items most of which are locally sourced. The fillet mignon (AAA Ontario Beef) was tender and flavorful. But I was more impressed with their home-cooked roast beef. When I saw it at the deli meat display case, I could not resist buying it. It looked perfectly medium rare, lean, and juicy. I asked for their recommended thickness - which was paper thin. Oh yes, I was right, it was juicy, packed with beef flavor with perfect seasonings. I think it will be as good when it is thicker - next time! I learned later that their cured meat products such as sausages are also good. I am looking forward to coming here again!

My haul consisted of their Sultan with Green Rice, Koobideh kabobs, Joojeh kabobs, ample heaps of polow rice and delicious Ghormeh Sabzi - considered the national dish of Iran dating back 5000 years. It elicits debates among chefs as to which herbs (tareh, parsley, scallion, cilantro, shanbalileh, etc.) and beans to include or exclude. Debates aside, it sure was tasty! Couldn't find a menu in store, either the prices really fluctuate daily on dishes or they make up random pricing. The jury is out in that one! I did note what their offerings were without looking at a menu. Shish kabob charcoal. Halal fresh meats. Ready to eat hot food. Spaghetti with lamb. Beef with safran rice. Chicken leg with cranberry rice. Lamb shank with green rice. Sultan with green rice. Waziri with cranberry rice. Khorma zabzi. Lobya polo, rice with ground veal and green beans. Ghimeh stow. Polow (white rice). Gheimeh (Qeimeh mutton khoresh) stew. Ground veal stick. Chicken kebab. Ayran yogurt drink. Next time I'll order a delivery of their Tahdig, and will try an order of their lamb spaghetti.
