It was a few minutes away from the whale shark watching where we were prior so we definitely came in hungry lol The restaurant was by the road so it was easy to spot. They also have parking space so that was convenient. Be aware that the restaurant is an open one so there is no air-conditioning but they did provide us with a fan which really helped from that hot July weather. Some of the items on the menu were not available at that time like their pizzas but otherwise the rest of the filipino food were. The scallops were good but I guess it came a bit to buttery/margarine-y (lol) for me. Good nonetheless. The pork belly was tasty as usual but my favorite was the crispy pata which the staff mentioned was also one of their best sellers. Perfectly seasoned and cooked! Crispy and meaty at the same time. Writing about it is actually making me hungry. There was one on the menu which was a tad too salty but i forgot which one it was. Anyway overall we had a good and filling meal which was what we were looking for. Clean space, good food, very nice staff and had a wonderful view of Oslob's blue waters. Just be careful coz the "nest" is by the cliff, thus where they most likely got the restaurant name of "Cantilado" from.

Our mixed group of adults, children, Filipinos and Canadians all enjoyed the meal. the crocodile sisig is a nice novelty dish (their specialty) and i was not at all disappointed. it was very good!! I easily recommend this restaurant for anyone intereted in Filipino food and travelling in the area for the famous Oslob whale shark watching tour. 10/10

What makes this place great for me are the people, the warm reception and the 'all heart' approach which shines through the picking and choosing of mixed Western and Filipino dishes on their menu spread catering to tourists from all over the world. We met families from France, based in Manila for work, who were staying at the Hostel for a couple of days as they planned their trip around Harold's extensive island trip privileges and all so affordable, like swimming with their giant turtles around Apo island. I will have a different review specifically on that experience. (Harold, the owner of the hostel and cafe) operates/owns a diving and snorkelling expedition with his shop just by the entrance of the hostel where you can book day trips and rent gear for whatever activity you choose. We had the chance to meet Harold a couple of times as he is also based in L.A but was in town for a vacay. Harold is a gregarious local who ensures your stay in Dumaguete is gravitated outside the walls of his cafe/hostel which is why his love for the open water seeps through his warm smile as he passionately shares his virtuous take on salt water adventures that will entice visitors within the Philippines and from all over the world. Diving trips has a more intricate process as there are open water courses and certificates before your first dive with the crew. (Again will go into detail on a different review) I just wanted to give readers an insight of how Harolds Rooftop Cafe is the start and end to a fun filled day. My favourite picks from the menu are the Adobong Tuna and veggie lumpias. You cannot NOT have adobo when you visit the Philippines. Adobo is the ultimate dish which has all the fixings of garlic, soy sauce and vinegar simmered to perfection with seasonings to heighten the tenderness of any meat of your choosing, in this case the tuna. Sooooooo GOOOD! The second show stopper for me was the veggie lumpias and this cafe serves them BIG AND BOLD and stuffed to the max, fried to the perfect level of crisp and washing all that down with some ice cold beer while your wifi connection has a speed advantage on that rooftop so FaceTime with the parents was uninterrupted as I showcased my sun set view and authentic, good tasting grub. I mean everything else on their menu is portioned unsparingly compared to other restaurants in the area and you can't go wrong with quality. Price point on meals is important especially when your travel budget includes island hopping, travelling with family and excursions. Everything adds up quickly when you're on vacay mode so it's best to know places where it won't disappoint pockets and taste buds.

We were in Dauin for two nights and came to Finbar twice for dinner. That's a good sign in my books…read moreas I don't go to too many places twice, especially while traveling. It's located right on the corner of Washington Street and the National Highway. We dropped in on a Friday and Saturday evening. Both nights were chill (Saturday had live music; a two person band). Service is friendly and laid back. You order food and drinks at the bar then it's brought to your table. The food menu is up on the wall. There's specials, snacks, burgers, pizzas, wings and dessert. They even offer massages (pricey ones). Trip #1 - Sweet n' honey honey ale (160 PHP) - decided to try out a local beer (locally made from Birdie Num-Num Dumaguete). Not too sweet but nice tones of honey. - Fried calamari (160 PHP) - with mansi, aioli and salad. Not really a salad; more like a few pieces of lettuce. That being said, calamari is perfectly breaded and lightly fried. - Haloumi bruschetta (160 PHP) - with tomato & olive salad. Decent but the haloumi doesn't taste like cheese back home. - Chicken halang-halang (180 PHP) - cooked in coconut milk soup with local vegetables and served with rice. A bit too soupy/watery for my taste buds. The broth was lacking punch and vigour. Probably would get another special next time. - Spicy pork pizza (160 PHP) - eggplant, onion and chili. This was one bud's favourite dish. Excellent dough, good crust and actually reasonably spicy. You get 6 small slices but it's easy to share. - Hot & spicy chili sauce wings (180 PHP) - the sauce wasn't hot or spicy. It was more sweet and kind of made the wings soggy. Needed to be crispier. - Peanut butter & jam pizza (120 PHP) - surprisingly, this worked out well. Just like a p&b sandwich but on a pizza instead! Trip #2 - Ginger beer (90 PHP) - this had more ginger zip and zing to it than I expected. Pretty decent for the Philippines. Can't say I've seen ginger beer anywhere else. - Fried calamari (160 PHP) - we got it again as my buddy M liked it that much. - Seared tuna with achara (290 PHP) - came with fresh vegetables and rice in a sweet chili sauce. They asked how we wanted our tuna; we went with rare. The piece was HUGE and perfectly cooked rare. Best fish I've had in the Philippines. Super impressed. - Stuffed chicken wrapped in bacon (320 PHP) - came with potato cake and buttered vegetables. Chicken was brilliantly stuffed while the bacon wasn't greasy at all. They gave us three big pieces too! The potato cakes were heavenly. Vegetables was a mix of cauliflower, green beans, carrot and (potentially) kohlrabi. Great food, cheap drinks and chill vibes. Perfect hangout spot once you're done scuba diving for the day.
