that's about as high as I wanna go without being really rude but they overcharge and for the price of getting a zipper put in a dress I could've bought a new dress. And it would've helped if they had a big sign saying cash only or check no credit card. It was behind the desk when you go to pay. And yes I understand English is not their first language but still that's kind of an important thing when you're going to pick up something. But I wish I read the reviews prior to going. So really now that I have gone here I have learned there are several good places in Clarkesville that are extremely reasonable. So do your homework don't have a senior moment like I did! read more

Can I give this place negative stars? On 2 separate occasions they tried to take advantage of my elderly mother and my 19 year old daughter. My mother took a coat to have the sleeves altered. They told her it would be $50. She didn't leave it and when I took it in they quoted me $25. My daughter took her formal to be altered. They quoted her $300. She didn't leave it and when I took it in they quoted me $120. This tells me they take advantage of the elderly and the young. Guess they figure 40 something women will argue over an inflated price. I have use alternate service in the pass few months and price was with national average for cutting and hemming formal dress. But at Chong the price was off the chart $90 & up...However, after I complained I got a discount final price $65 still high. When I went to pick up the dress I was reminded that they never give discount. I guess I was kinda lucky but it bothered the owner that they had mentioned it again. read more

I took a suit in for fitting and alteration. Because if my body type, it is difficult to get suits off the rack that fit as is. This one fit well in the arms and shoulders, but was a tent around the waist. The seamstress was loathe to take it in. In the end, she did not take in enough; it still fits like a sack. We were referred here by a local bridal shop to have my daughter's bridal gown altered. The lady at Chong's Alterations told us that the bodice of the gown would be taken in 2" and the lace up back would have appropriate spacing to tighten the gown. The gown was also to be hemmed. She showed my daughter how the front of the hem would be one length but the train would still flow behind. When my daughter tried the gown on at the shop after the alterations it was tight at the very top of the bodice but the waist was not altered. The seam on one side of the bodice was resewn unevenly. The lace up back could not be tightened tight enough to keep the dress up. As she walked to the front of the store the dress began to fall off of her. As she stood in front of the mirror with a stricken look on her face, we showed the seamstress how the dress was still ill fitting...I even showed her on the gown how the waist area did not fit. Her response to us was "I have been doing this 38 years...brides expect their gowns to fit perfectly and they don't". I was speechless. We also noted that the hem was significantly longer on one side as opposed to the other. The seamstress stated "there is more material on the one side". (as though the dress was intended to look that way.) We made it clear we were unhappy with the alteration to which the response from the two women in the store was to keep telling my daughter how beautiful she was and what a beautiful bride she was going to be. I was charged $197.10. I have since found a wonderful lady in Nashville who designs and makes wedding gowns. She has fit this beautiful dress to my daughter perfectly and corrected the many mistakes Chong's Alterations made. (the bodice was only hemmed an inch or two down and one side was uneven causing a "notched" look, the stay in the bodice was sewn in toward the back instead of straight up the seam, the hem was uneven and the netting layer of the dress still had the safety pins in it...she had not even bothered to cut the netting.) A simple phone call saying this is beyond my abilities would have been much appreciated and understood. I would not recommend this business to anyone whether it be a wedding gown or a pair of pants in need of hemming. read more
