Thank goodness they had a little sign out advertising five dollar nugs and chips and five dollar calamari and chips!!! I upgraded to crumbed as opposed to beer battered, which brought me to seven dollars. The service was awesome, full of smiles. The food was cooked fresh for me and delivered in a big bag- my chips and calamari were in separate boxes, too, and they both filled up a big box each. Seven bucks for the lot!!! Can you say I'm stoked? It's great grub- talk about fluffy chips- and heaps of it, and the bag had their business card stapled to it too, so Ill be keeping that on hand for convenience. Can't wait to come back next time I'm here for more. Also: bowl of lollies at the table. They had strawberry and cherry, the only downside to my visit was trying to choose. (I took one of each. No gimmicks (beer battered, curly etc). Good quantity. You come for the fish but stay for the chips. 2. Fresh fish. Need to be able to buy fresh fillets, not just their previously crumbed/battered offerings. 3. Not pretentious or too fancy. Fish and Chipperies, Fish Cafes, Fish Bars etc need not apply. 4. Location. Everyone knows fish and chips taste better by the beach. Graceville Seafood hits the mark on 3 out of 4, but I won't hold its lack of beach against it. It is exactly what you want in a fish and chip shop. Nothing fancy, no "fish cafe" here with $20+ meals served on fancy "plates" with "cutlery". No sir. Fresh fish, excellent chips (a sturdy chips, not beer battered, well cooked), and at a good price. I couldn't go past the $10 cod, chips and can deal. Added a serve of calamari, because I like to treat myself sometimes. Highly recommended for a Friday night feast on the couch watching master chef.

I've had several fish 'n' chips places around Brisbane, including The Salt & Battery in St. Lucia, as well as Fish Market in Dutton Park. So far, I think that Riverside does the best job frying up their fish 'n' chips, but Fish Market does make the plate more colorful with a mini salad on the side. Riverside does a lunch special of the cod fish with hot chips and a canned drink for $10, and it's loaded with hot chips to fill you up! I couldn't finish them... The batter for the cod had an amazing mouthfeel, as it wasn't over-fried or soggy, and the fish was definitely fresh. I didn't try any other fishes, so I can't vouch for them, but the calamari seems to be quite popular. The sauces (tartare, etc.) are an extra $1.5-2.0, but totally worth it! My tartare sauce was perfect. They were friendly and pretty attentive, so that's always a plus. This isn't a place to go for ambience, but it is definitely a go-to if you're a fan of seafood! Generally the tables are used for people waiting on their take-away or during lunch-time when no one cares. They have all the fish favourites; barramundi, snapper, coral trout, sea perch, flake, whiting, cod and dory and offer plenty of family packs, assorted seafood packs all full of the yummy extra seafood bits like calamari, seafood sticks and scallops. Food here is fresh although it can often be a bit too greasy for my liking, for what you get the prices are fine. The customer service is not commendable but when you're in a hurry yourself, you don't really care. It's an average take away place with good food, if you're in the mood for a bit of grease on the side.

The service is top quality - the orders are filled quickly. The prices are brilliant. I can not believe how lucky we are to score such a top quality fish and chip shop near us. We all love the calamari. I just hope it is well supported so we don't lose it as they don't seem to advertise so many people may not have discovered it. If you are looking for a lazy mid-week dinner then whack a salad together and treat yourself or grab your favourite seafood goodies and take the kids to a park on a lazy Sunday.
