Chom Na is my go-to for thai in the city. I am a huge thai fan but also an inner-city dweller, so you guys appreciate my dilemma: an abundance of japanese and korean joints, but affordable thai? Not so much. It moved in a few months ago, in the spot near where there was a short-lived frozen yoghurt place (because that was one thing the city really didn't need) and opposite the iconic korean pancake store. It's one of those 'come down my stairs if you dare' type situations, but not as murdery. In fact it's a massive space with fairly budget decorating, but you get what you pay for and honestly it's refreshing to find a place that doesn't pretend to be anything but what it is. I have tried lots from the menu, and never been disappointed - my sister swears by the vegetarian pad thai. I even have it on good authority from a real-life-totally-unaffiliated-and-in-no-way-biased Thai person that it's pretty good food.
Have not yet assessed whether it is BYO, but it totally has the capacity to be a fantastic place for massive group wines-and-affordable-dines. Have also not yet assessed whether it is good for hangovers.
But I will let you guys know. read more
