The bar and grill there I believe it's called the Boondocks has a hard time staying open. Revolving staff and owners. But when it is open it's nice to have right by your room, there is a dirty little pond that the rooms surround on one side. I've seen people catching bass there, but you can see the cards everywhere. Only about 20 rooms, 2 little apartment suites, and a small cabin if you take a small group with you. Overall, the fishing is decent usually, and I always enjoy filming the pair of Bald Eagles living on the north side of the lake. They always seem to point me to the fish. It's not the widest so we had to stop at times in order to let other vehicles pass. The scenery is beautiful, the water is relaxing (but cold), and the air is fresh. I love that the the sites are grassy (instead of dirt like up north). The sites are wide open and spread so that you have plenty of room for a group and yet can still keep an eye on kids running around. We paddleboarded, kayaked, fished, and drove rc cars. The coolest part was having airforce planes fly low and through the canyon! We already plan on staying again! Only wish is that there was a better bathroom and even a shower. Once you park, there's a short 20 minute hike up to some radio towers with a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. I've never camped here myself, but I usually see someone who drove in and is tent camping or camping out of a conversion van of some type. My most recent visit corresponded to a thunder storm in the valley, which meant it was a bit rainy on the hike up the trail. It's a relatively easy hike with some consistent elevation increase on the way up, you can do this hike in a pair of sneakers and a bottle of water. As far as the drive in, nothing too treacherous here, the road is passable by anything with four wheels and a driver with a bit of gumption. Four wheel drive and a high clearance vehicle is NOT required for this drive, but it certainly does make it easier to navigate. I definitely take air out of the tires for any dirt road and this is no exception; although, if you don't carry an air compressor in your vehicle, I'd suggest you don't let air out as there really isn't anywhere close by to put air back in. You can spend 5 minutes looking at the view or a couple hours. You can bring a picnic basket, your water bottle and a granola bar, or nothing at all - whatever you feel like on this excursion. It's a fairly easy destination and if you've been outside and walked more than a mile in one go within the past 6 months, this hike will be a piece of cake for you!

We arrived at 3:00 pm on a busy Memorial Weekend away from the Covid19 pandemic. There were no spaces left! We're so happy we booked EARLY online! Our first time here! You would be hard-pressed to find a more scenic creek forest camp setting in Arizona. Mighty impressive! The camp host in both LOTS A and B were extremely welcoming, very personable and obviously kept a very tidy ship. Thank You Ellen, Roger and Shannon for everything you did that made our trip just a little better. You're hard work and dedication should be recognized beyond this review. We found the fee to be fairly cheap, considering the location and time of year. It was also a very quiet site, compared to the nearby campsites. It's very close to Starr Valley and Payson etc ..too. I wasn't told of what the activity was until we were near. I kind of started low key freaking out as I started reading the reviews of how you need water shoes or hiking shoes, and to bring water, then reception was lost. Okay, we're doing this, with or without those things. Having water shoes and/or hiking shoes helps but it's not necessary. There was plenty of people in flip flops and crocs: men, women, and children. The water rock slide was cool, there are two other kiddie options for water rock slides just below. You just have to wet it. Water, you'll live without it but the air was dry and I was super thirsty by the time we got back to the car. But, I needed my hands free and my load light since I was worrying about not having the proper footwear. So it's all good in the neighborhood. Definitely recommend!

The downside to that is that you are hiking in at the hottest part of the day. Which makes the water feel that much more refreshing. The hike isn't hard, you just follow the creek. Some people were in flip flops- which is doable, but the rocks can be quite slippery in places. Bring lots of water. There's some shade, but not tons. Oh- and watch out for the random cow. He's not friendly.

They were so kind and did all the tricks to see why nothing was coming out. We did the toilet fill and flush, we stuck a hose down there too. It wasn't until they crawled under the Indie camper and found a SECOND black tank pull. Thank goodness because if I returned it full Indie camper rental would charge me over $380 to dump the black tank.
