    the european chocolates since 1913

Service here was amazing. Chocolate servings are large and true to taste. So many options. The gelato flavors were unique and delicious. They even serve Stam coffee and sell the beans. It was very good. There is comfortable seating and a quiet atmosphere. A worthy excursion if you're traveling to Des Moines.

Who would have thought this Sweet Gem was here in Des Moines Iowa! What a great find! Actually introduced to me by an actual Iowa relative who used to send these gorgeous morsels to my Mother in Minnesota! I remember just how wonderful the quality of Chocolate was and the fillings made with real cream and butter. Just ordered some for my sister in Illinois and I was so hoping that it was as I remembered it. The Website was done beautifully. So it was easy to pick out some great confections for a gift. The individual pieces are done so expertly. Windmills and Crowns and hearts but the real test is what is inside and the Chocolate on the outside. Tremendous! It is every bit as good as the fancy European places I have ordered from before. Next time you are in Des Moines or need to place an order go to their website and take a look, you will not be disappointed. You will be in Chocolate Heaven !

Always a great place to find gelato and amazing chocolate flavors! Love to come here to fill boxes for gifts of all kinds and a variety of sizes (sometimes for us!) I hope when COVID ends they'll return to having their summer free concerts in their lovely, cool outdoor seating area, which is always a pleasant space to enjoy a gelato!

Stam has music fairly regularly (schedule attached) in the courtyard. It is beautiful out there plus they have wine, beer and wine smoothies. The wine smoothies could be the best thing I have ever tasted... they are made with wine and their berry gelato... they also have charcuterie platters and cheese and chocolate fondue... the fondue is delicious and the best value in town! The wait staff are uber nice plus the music, food and drink! Winning combination for sure!

Interesting shoppe that feels like you have entered into a wonderful European dimension where chocolates and truffles were hand crafted by Willy Wonka himself Everything seemed highly priced yet finding this small chocolate escape off Ingersoll made everything feel just right Large assortment of hand crafted chocolates that are the finest morsels you'll ever hope to rain down your mouth I'll never recall or care about how much I spent because the smiles my daughter and I experienced were with every penny

Chocolaterie Stam is the finest! It is the sweet store you dream of experiencing on a vacation in Europe. It is top notch with an elevated service and atmosphere to transport you into a true chocolate experience right here in the Heartland. It is a great place to purchase imaginative elite gifts for your friends and family, party favors for your event or a little something for yourself. With decadent gelato flavors and delicious chocolate crafted with different hues and shapes, you will be impressed. My daughter's favorite is the white chocolate cream mouse. No matter what piece you choose it will be creamy, rich and won't disappoint! Pick your assortment, and enjoy on the outdoor patio with a cup espresso or a glass of sangria. Live music on the terrace adds my favorite touch! I played music on their patio stage and it made for an enchanting evening for all ages.

Key Lime Pie and Creme Brulee gelato

Chocolaterie Stam is a Dutch chocolate shop and bakery that has been in the Des Moines area for many years. They were originally founded in the Netherlands in 1913, and pride themselves on fine european chocolates and sweets. The store itself was quite barren, but then again, it was 11:00 on a Friday morning. The gelato counter featured 10 flavors, I would have liked to see more variety. The prices are quite reasonable for a gelato shop, 3.95 for a small and 4.5 for a medium. I got a half-and-half of Creme Brûlée and Key Lime Pie. The Creme Brûlée was too caramel-y and not enough cream for my tastes, but the Key Lime Pie was excellent. Jordan got Red Velvet and Creme Brûlée, which he enjoyed. The fun part of this experience was this giveaway they were doing. You spin a giant wheel, and if you land on one of three spots, you win a new dessert they were testing: the "ijs Tosti," or "Ice Toasty." The employee described it as a warm toasty bread with cool gelato in the middle, a mix of sensations that was supposed to be delicious. Instead, it ended up tasting like someone put a scoop of chocolate ice cream on a bland dinner roll. It was a terrible combination of textures, temperatures, and flavors. I'm glad this was a test dessert, Chocolaterie Stam should not be selling it. Stick to chocolates! Overall, this was okay. The store atmosphere is very cute and historical looking, but the gelato itself is pretty average. The ice toasty was an innovation gone wrong, 0/10, would not recommend.

I'd meant to try European Taste there at Valley West Mall and pick up a couple of pieces or tiramisu for a friend's birthday. Unfortunately I found out that European Taste is closed on Mondays... I should have checked their hours online first I guess... Couldn't leave empty handed... So I headed over to Chocolaterie Stam! A small six item box of truffles and other chocolates and I was on my way! All's well that ends well! And you can really never go wrong with something from Chocolaterie Stam...!

You can smell the chocolates that is provided and see the vintage looking decorations. I came at a non-busy hour and the employees didn't seem very attentive for when you arrive. I was actually surprised seeing that this place also offers coffee, so as a "cafe goer", I decided to order a latte to my liking. When placing my order, I needed to wait to pay after they have made my drink which made the encounter a bit awkward as I'm standing there watching them. Receiving my coffee, it was your standard latte. As the cup was hot, there was no sleeves having me use napkins as replacement to not feel too much heat from the cup. That was another reason for my low rating.

If you love chocolate like I do, come to this store because they have a fine selection of European chocolates for great prices. Kinder bueno, anyone? If you haven't tried it, you're missing out, just saying. I would also recommend their tea selection, which is also extensive and cheap. They have everything you'd expect in a specialty grocery store, from spices to meats, from canned foods to sweets/snacks that you definitely wouldn't be able to find at any American grocery store. It truly is an excellent selection. Whether or not you are familiar with the foods, I highly recommend checking this place out. Seriously, the chocolate selection alone will knock your socks off.
