This place is a rad place just a short drive up from Center Square in Easton, and you might (probably will) miss it. It's about one door in from the corner next to a barber shop, and it's in a big yellow house with an awkwardly steep handicap ramp. You step in, and it's an old school looking place, but who cares, you're here to buy supplies. They have 2 maybe 3 aisles (loose use of the word), and they are stocked to the brim with things you'll need if you want to crank out cakes, candy, chocolates, and the lot. Cake decorators, this place is rad for you. Different colorings (liquid, powder and paste) and a HUGE variety of extracts and oils in teensy little bottles. Weird flavors too. Edible spray paint, powdered egg-whites. You name it, they've got it. They have cake pans, candy molds, bags for goodies, thermometers, lace for decorating, lollipop sticks, magazines and books, and not to mention a handful of sweet people that will answer your questions, even if they are dumb ones. Check this place out for whatever you need candy and cake wise, and

In addition to their signature housemade carmelcorn, the shop also specializes in popcorn, fresh roasted nuts, fudge, chocolates, gummies and old-fashioned hard candies. Richard Baskin purchased the shop from the Dohertys in 1985. He in turn sold the shop to husband and wife Tony and Sia Bassil in 1996 and they have owned it ever since. Sia had originally been hired to work behind the counter for the Dohertys in 1977, when she was just 14. She continued to work at the shop, on and off, for several years until she bought it with her husband. My family and I visited The Carmelcorn Shop this past summer while we were visiting relatives in the area. We were exploring Downtown Easton and noticed the storefront. It looked like a really cool place and we were shocked when we saw the sign that read "Since 1931". The shop is pretty small, but it has all sorts of novelty candies. The carmelcorn smelled great! We ended up getting some as well as some old-fashioned candies for our two boys. It's nice to know that there are still old-fashioned candy shops like this still in existence. If you're visiting Downtown Easton, then we recommend that you take a stop at the Carmelcorn Shop for a trip down memory lane.

I always make sure I stop in when I return to Easton to reminisce with Sia and of course pick up some Almond Butter Crunch.

The name of the chain is a reference to Grandpa Joe from Roald Dahl's 1964 children's book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". After the success of the original 900-square-foot store in Pittsburgh, other locations began to pop up in the surrounding areas. Each one is stocked with over 250 candy bar varieties, nostalgic candies, 250 flavors of old-fashioned glass-bottled sodas, and even novelty gifts. As of this writing, Grandpa Joe's has 21 locations spread out over five states (mainly Pennsylvania and Ohio). My family and I visited the Grandpa Joe's location in Bethlehem (opened October 2019) this past summer while we were visiting relatives in the area. We came across the storefront as we were exploring Main Street. We really liked the name of the shop as well as all of the decor. The interior was loaded with every conceivable candy variety that you could think of: chocolate bars, jelly beans, gummies, hard candies, gum, fudge, lollipops, taffy, etc. Many of the candies were ones that I haven't seen, or even thought about, in many years. They also had quite a few novelty and gag gifts. My wife and I let our sons pick out a few chocolate candies to take back home. What really impressed me was the large selection of old-fashioned sodas that were in stock. One of my favorite soda brands is "Sioux City", though I often have trouble finding them. Grandpa Joe's had the largest selection of Sioux City sodas that I've ever seen under one roof. I made myself a mixed six-pack to take home. Whether you're looking for your favorite candy bar, hard candies to make "goodie bags", a funny gag gift, or a nostalgic candy that you haven't seen since your childhood, then you need to make a trip to Granda Joe's!

Good start terrible ending on the day of my daughter's Quinceañera. I don't like leaving negative…read morereviews, but I tried by very best at speaking to Julie and she did not return any of my calls. I just got an unacceptable email apology stating in short that she gave me what was on the contract and she was sorry I was not pleased. She certainly avoided my calls, till this day two months later not one call in return. If anyone knows how much goes into planning a Quinceañera they would understand my disappointment and extreme frustration. The cake IS a big deal! And a main highlight of the party. The problems: 1. Sad cupcakes. The cupcakes were a shock! They were small! !and looked like plain home baked cupcakes with a regular plain white liner. Now, I ordered a white cupcake as the cake was blue, but I expected a simple yet elegant white cupcake with white frosting. I had seen their work, talked to Julie, been to their bakery, what in the world happened here?! A nice elegant white paper would have made them pop and look great. Cupcakes looked ordinary and sad contrasted with an elegant and sparkling setting and backdrop of the decorated hall. I told Julie that was unacceptable. She added some silver candy balls to it and that was it. The remaining cupcakes on the dessert table did not have all the decoration the cake table had so they looked extra plain and not fitting for the type of event this was. 2. We did not have enough cupcakes. Thankfully someone got one for my daughter and me because they were gone in no time. Many guests did not get cake. I checked quantities with Julie and she assured me that was plenty. 3. Not the display I asked for. I did not request a stand alone cake on a table (I ordered a small cake), I asked for a cake on top and cupcakes around using a cupcake tower. The cupcake tower I provided was not used, reason being the cake was lopsided because Julie admitted she did not fully test the cupcake tower when she received it months prior to the event. Thankfully my event decorator came and got me to show me the cake table did not look right, otherwise we would have walked into a small cake on a table. 4. Lopsided cake. I was very displeased as this all happening 30 minutes prior to the event starting. I told Julie that did not look right and it needed to be fixed. She did end up using the cupcake tower, but the cake was lopsided. We had to be careful cutting it so it wouldn't topple over. Our event decorator came to the rescue and spiced things up on the table because the cake display was very plain. 5. Wrong color. The cake color was turquoise not "Cinderella blue", I showed Julie a picture of the actual dress when we met in person because I know there are different shades f blue. 6. The design we asked for was not what we got. Our inspiration cake picture shows raised waves not dented waves. It was poorly designed. Julie was great to work with and very courteous, sweet, and professional when we met at the shop and leading up to the vent as we communicated via phone and mainly email since I was out of state. The day of the event came and I was so disappointed with end result, but more so with the lack of customer service and the staff flat out ignoring my call and emails. I called at different times of the day and on different days in hopes someone would answer. It was very obvious what was happening. We are a military family and we had to relocate cross country one week after the event. It was a very busy time and I asked Julie in my messages to please call me back because I wanted to sort things out before I moved. Nothing... On a positive note, I can say their cakes are delicious, that's one of the reasons I picked this bakery for such a special event. Moist and not too sweet, just like I like my cake. Julie was very pleasant to work with until the day of the event. I hope this is a learning experience for the ladies at Virella's. You are a Latina women owned business, you can do better with the end product/design and customer service when you have displeased customers. Please don't just ignore them. Yes, you met the contract and gave me what I asked for on paper, but the end result was poor and not we talked about at the shop. Please recognize your error and give your customer the courtesy of being heard, validated, and out of respect return their calls. Wishing you ladies success in your business.
