So much was miscommunicated or NOT communicated at all. When you book an appointment early, everything should be clear. The day before coming in, I received a text message to confirm my appointment so I did. Immediately, I received a text stating that my appointment was confirmed. Later that afternoon, I received a cancellation notice for a CONFIRMED appointment. When I got off work I called and inquired why. I was told because there was no credit card on file. If one was requested at the time I booked the appointment, I would have left one. We arrived at 11:05 for our 11:30 appointment; signed wavers and was offered a beverage. We chose white wine and didn't know it would be warm. My best friend received her massage first and just when my feet were in the water, they were taken out. The massage therapist was ready for me. So my best friend started with her pedicure. After my massage, there was a period of waiting. A long period, in which we binged on Good Girls. There is only one nail tech on duty, it was explained that sometimes there are two on Thursdays. I made sure that my friend was able to receive the signature chocolate experience. Time did not allow me to take advantage of anything special. We were there so long that I lost the desire anyway. At some point, you could hear light growls from our stomachs. No one ever offered us anything other than the initial welcome glass of warm, white wine. Upon completion, we were told at the register that the business adds a four percent charge to all credit card purchases. RIDICULOUS! That's on the total! When asked why no one shared that we could save if we paid cash, the response was "I didn't book your appointment". In spite of how long we were there, we still left a nice tip for our services and purchased two bottles of chocolate oil. read more

The first time was with less than a week notice so it was understandable that they were booked. When they replied, they were straight forward with no attempt to find a better time for me to come in. When I reached out requesting an appt for more than a month in advance on a Saturday, the staff replied they were available but will not accept Groupon vouchers. Keep in mind that there was no 'fine line' or detail that they would not take appts on weekends - only that you had to schedule in advance. I received a male staff member who just arrived from another country and was told there were no female staff members and massaged my butt cheeks. I'll show her a picture or simply tell her what I'm looking for and I get what I ask for or even better. She has an absolutely, always positive attitude. I visited Chocolate for your Body Salon and Spa back in October for a consultation with Laura. This consultation was about a week before the appointment that was set to ensure she could straighten and color my hair type which is natural hair. On the day of my appointment I received a voice-mail only 20 minutes before my 3:30pm appointment that she was running behind so my appointment would be changed to 4:30pm, I was already parked and walking to the salon. I waited since I had already traveled there and waited an additional 15 mins after the new scheduled 4:30pm time before she allowed me to sit in her chair. Laura accepted 2 other appointments during my scheduled time and made me wait with no conditioner or hair bonnet while she bleached my hair twice before finally adding color. The color I received was not the color we discussed in the consultation. She rushed through the clipping and straightening. I was in this shop sitting in her chair for 5 hours. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and trust the process. Laura claimed to have been a stylist for 15 years but the end result looked like an inexperienced child worked on my hair with a color in a box from the beauty supply. My ends were not cut evenly nor the color distributed evenly across my head. A guy entered the shop around 9pm when it was only me and Laura present. She claimed he was there to get his hair done as well but he sat in front of me and started asking personal questions, and then made rude comments. She then quickly said she was done, gave me my coat and rushed me to the register while charging me $230 when our consultation and the printed pamphlet for the shop says about $55 for color plus $35 for wash/set. I shared that I was not pleased and she is overpricing this appointment. The guy was standing over my shoulder as if he was her security to make sure I paid while it was only the 3 of us in the shop after 9pm. I paid to safely leave, messaged Laura my dissatisfaction again that same evening with no response, and returned to the shop the following day to speak to the manager. The manager Danielle was dissatisfied with the look of my hair as well. The stylist Laura did not take ownership that my hair looked unprofessionally done and she only offered $30 in return for the style with no apology and justified charging $200 for the incorrect, unevenly distributed color in my hair. The manager Danielle shared she could not ask Laura for a refund but assured me the owner, who was out of the country, would call me when she returned since Laura is a separate entity from the Chocolate for your body spa. The manager Danielle nor owner Bernadette called me back and each time I called the shop the rep Doris shared no one was in to handle my complaint. I finally reached the owner Bernadette and she said Laura (her daughter) told her that she made a mistake by not informing me that each highlight was an additional cost (about $50 each time). In the end of the conversation, she claimed she had NOT talked to the manager or her daughter Laura and will discuss with them before she called me back in 4 days. I called her on the 5th day since there was no follow up. The owner Bernadette hung up as soon as I said my name and that I was following up. It was fair after 2 weeks of giving the stylist Laura, manager Danielle, and owner Bernadette enough time to resolve their error in pricing and dissatisfactory service that customer issues was not a priority for this company. They failed to deliver. If you care about your hard earned money, your hair, and time, don't patronize this hair stylist Laura (IG:hairbyLauraW) nor the establishment Chocolate for your body since they relinquished all liability and ownership when service did not go as planned. I had to pay another stylist to style my hair for an upcoming photo shoot. There is only one stylist at this location (Laura) who either did not care enough to put effort into her customer's hair or does not have hair styling skills along with the decency to share if she could not deliver on the style she agreed to during consultation. read more

There is no valet either. I entered the establishment and was greeted by a woman who appeared angry. But I realized she had a poor eyebrow service completed. I was told to pick out a color and I did. I sat on a the pleather sofa. They had valentines cookies on a tray. It was past valentines day. Many of the cookies looked picked over and even bit off. The place wasn't too clean. Coffee cup laying around no one picked up, stuff in sink when I needed to wash my hands, bottles of stuff places it shouldn't be. The staff that did my nails did a good job and took her time. My Brazilian wax was done by Veronica. This was my first time ever getting one so I was nervous and didn't know what to expect. I found a groupon for a Brazilian wax and figured it wouldn't hurt to try this place after I checked out their Instagram page. I was running a little late for my appt and they were able to accommodate me anyway. There is not parking directly in front of the building but I found a spot on the corner and walked (I'm not sure if there is normally parking or if it was available because of the pandemic). I walk in and it looks fairly small but when I was taken back to my room, there's a hall that leads to other rooms behind a wall. It was as painful as you would expect a long overdue Brazilian to be. I was also told if I come back within 4 weeks I can get my Brazilian for 15 dollars off. I don't live in the area so that may be the only reason I don't go there as often however when I may my hair appts (which happen every 4-6 weeks) I will also consider making a wax appt as well. read more

I decided to treat my mom and I there for a spa day days after we buried my grandmother. My mom was to receive a massage, manicure and pedicure. I was to receive a pedicure and dip powder manicure as they didn't have availability for a massage for me as well. I was advised that since I wouldn't receive a massage to wait until 2:30 so that my mom and I can sit together to receive our nail treatments. I agreed. Once the massage was completed at 2:30, my mom was seated for her pedicure. My nail tech had me to select a dip powder and once selected set me up to remove the previous dip powder that was on my nails (I had advised the clerk upon scheduling that I'd need it removed). I was told to sit there. As my mom received her pedicure I still sat in waiting as my technician stated that she did not want to start my pedicure until after my dip powder was replaced. Makes no sense to me. She finally was able to take it off by 4:15. At this time, my mom was finished with her pedicure but decided to opt out of receiving a manicure. She'd stated that the nail tech had hurt her feet and did not do a good job with painting her toes. Her tech was extremely nice and chatty, but wasn't a good nail artist. Now that my power is now removed my tech complains that it took so long because the previous tech put several layers of dip powder on my nails. She cleaned them up and told me to wash my hands. I'd advised that my nails were super weak but she said that's ok still wash it. I'd thought she'd bring the bowl to me to soak and wash there. As I'm washing my hands one of my nails break. I tell her and she rolls her eyes and states, "I'm sorry to hear that." She didn't offer any suggestions. She took my hand and shaped the one nail with a serious attitude. She put two layers of dip powder on my nails. I opted out of a pedicure as this has already been a long day for just one simple nail service.I did not leave until 5. I am extremely upset at the treatment that we received as this was supposed to be a relaxing, peaceful distraction for my mom and I. Instead it turned into a stressful and long day. Since then, two of my nails have broken off, one is cracked, and the dip powder has chipped terribly. It has only been a week. The chipping began two days later. I wasn't going to write a review but just not ever go back but I must express my disdain. I have never experienced this treatment or disappointment of service in my life. The best experience was from the massage technician. I have used her several times throughout the years and have referred two people to her. I used to come here with my sister for the massage and facial combo. During my last appointment it was clear that the massage service is now lacking. The massage took place in a cold room on a bed that felt like a board. The massage was more of a scattered, rough rubbing than a massage. There was no consistency or method used at all. I left feeling worse than when I came. It was not relaxing at all. If I had only gone for a massage I would give it one star. Luckily the facial was amazing. It truly saved the experience. I have been going to Iwona for my waxes for over 3 years. She is warm, friendly and very personable. She is also very skilled at her job. I have had other waxes where the hair has grown back in just a few days. However, with Iwona, she takes her time and makes sure she gets all the stray/ingrown hairs. I also take advantage of the discount they offer if you come back with in 3-4 weeks. If I am just getting a "touch-up" it is about $15 cheaper. read more

I am a HUGE fan of having your go to nail salon. This has become my new "Go To" since moving over to this area. I was sad to say "see ya later" to my old one, Spa Anjou. If you are in the Loop area, go there! Awesome service, great techs. Here, the service is fantastic and my nails look great every time I leave. I have also got the massages and yes, very good as well. The ambiance was spot on, great calming music, low/dim lights and there was an information sheet inquiring on specific areas and they actually read it and applied it. I have been to other places where I would fill them out and they would not look at it (frustrating). They also have specials every month that change and there are also daily specials. Prices are as to be expected. I am going to give the skin care treatments a try soon and update on that. read more

Needless to say, I will definitely not pay this outrageous price for convenience ever again. This was the WORST No Chip manicure I have ever received. Best customer service! But, my manicure: -uneven filing -lumpy and bumpy -lifted and bubbly WHEN I WAS WALKING OUT (manicurist took 3 tries to fix and could not) -lifted and bubbly after day 3 -bleeding into cuticles The manicurist did not soak my nails nor did she push my cuticles down. I requested to have some of the nails fixed (because they looked terrible and she agreed) and I still received no discount. The receptionist told me, "Oh, well if they chip or need repair just come on back and we will fix them." I'm sorry, but if my NO CHIP manicure needs a fix (and you are disclaiming this before I even walk out AFTER I paid $37)....THERE IS AN ISSUE. I normally get so many compliments on how my manicures look perfect. It is so sad (and embarrassing) that this week people at work have commented on how they look "different" and "not the same." aka...they look terrible. As a general rule of thumb, it should be known that when waxing, the wax must be applied against the direction of hair growth, and ripped off in the direction of hair growth. There is no other correct way to achieve a long lasting and healthy waxing session. I called chocolate for your body ahead of time to make sure this was their method, and the receptionist told me it was. When I got there for my wax appointment, my esthetician did the exact opposite. It was horrendous. That day, I received the most painful and unprofessional Brazilian wax of my life. It shout honestly be illegal to be able to treat that area of a woman's body without proper method. When she came back I told her my reasons for calling and she put me on hold again. 5 minutes later, someone else answered the phone and asked me why I was calling. She asked if I had a voucher and I said yes, and she became even more rude and said they didnt have any openings until next week. I said I would call back later... I went for a Brazilian wax from the positive reviews I saw here. Having gotten several waxes in the past, I am never critical of the pain of waxes, because let's be honest it's never painless. I went into the room and saw a towel on the table that I assumed was to cover me when I undressed. I touched it and realized it was wet and had hair on it. (In retrospect this should have been a huge red flag to leave) The woman who did my wax was unable to get wax off of my body. She took scissors to cut it off and kept applying wax to get the existing hard wax off. Finally after 10-15 minutes she got it off. After I got up, I realized the scissors and tweezers she used had not been sanitized, because they were just chilling in a cup that had other utensils/pens/etc in it. Upon entering the salon I told the receptionist I didn't have my gift certificate , she told me she needed the numbers from the certificate however I could not get them but I proceeded to get the service anyway. I always enjoyed a very relaxing and soothing massage. When I called last week to make an appointment for my birthday massage, I was told that Veronica didn't work there anymore but Felicia was amazing. I booked my appointment. Felicia does not know the meaning of relaxing massage. She dug into my muscles and when I would say "that hurts" she would say "you're so tight". So what!! I don't want to feel like I've been beat up! Then she wouldn't let up!! After my massage, she asked me how I felt. I told her I was ok and then she tells me that I'm very sensitive. I called to make an appointment 3 weeks ahead of time for a surprise service for my fiancé and when he showed up he found that the salon didn't have the appointment. They said that whoever took my appointment when I called didn't take down my information as she should have so they could contact me and confirm, so they just cancelled the appointment. Used a spa finder gift card to purchase a facial here. The salon looked very well maintained. They have a whole different section for massages and facials. The room used for facials was very tiny. The bed was also very rocky and I was very scared it wasn't sturdy enough. This is something I wish I knew before hand because I couldn't enjoy my facial while thinking if I was going to fall. Also, because the room was so tiny, the steamer was touching my skin against the wall. The service was great and the provider was very thorough with my service. It felt a little too much like junior high girls - a bit of gossipy cattiness was in the air. I went to CFYB because it's listed by NuFree. NuFree is supposedly better for you than wax - and I get a full Brazilian. I don't know if it was the product or the person doing the work, but I left practically embarrassed. For years, I have had only one clinician do my Brazilian who is professional, clinical in her approach, and efficient - a high standard. At CFYB, not only was the person unprofessional, first of all, actually referring to labia as vagina, (WHY did she find it necessary to even TALK about that!?). Secondlly, the product was not working, and she informed me that she "didn't want to spend too much time down there looking at that" when "I've got one of my own." Was I mortified? You better believe it! I have always come out of my Brazilian sessions clean like a baby's bottom, and I left CFYB pretty much the same way I went in, and I was charged for a bikini wax - which it was not. She was unprofessional, far too familiar about my privates, and generally lacking in grace and courtesy while performing such an intimate treatment. Poop For Your Self-Esteem! Sorry, that's what they should call it. I'm really not a mean or angry person. Most of my reviews on Yelp are positive. But today I had the WORST customer service experience of my life! And you know what? This review isn't even based on only that. It is based on that PLUS the fact that I've been here several times and never really had a decent haircut from them. Why did I keep coming, you ask? Because it's very easy for me to get to, and I REALLY want to like it! It has a cool name. And it does smell like chocolate in there. But today I have to accept that it's just really, really badly managed. And with this review I'm burning this mother******* bridge to the ground. I had a photo shoot today for my professional website, and I figured if I book a trim and basic blow-dry, that's pretty hard for them to screw up, right? Wrong! I know, I know, I should have known better. But it has served me in life to be generally forgiving! To a point. I booked a photographer and a space for noon, downtown. Several hundreds of dollars! Days in advance, I made a 10am appointment at CFYB online, and I received an email confirmation of my appointment. Because I knew the timing would be tight, I washed my own hair right before the appointment. I called at 9:45 to let them now I'd be a few minutes late. Here's how the conversation went. Connor (the receptionist): Chocolate for your Body, can you please hold? (This is another thing! They ALWAYS make you hold when you call, before you can get a word in! I've even wondered if they're just trained to do that, because it's never been busy when I've been in there). Me: Sure. Now it's 9:50 Connor: Good morning, Chocolate for your body. Me: I'm going to be like 5 minutes late for my 10am appointment. Unless it's a problem, in which case I'll come now. I can still make it on time. Connor : I don't have you down for today, sorry. Me. But I have an email confirmation. Connor: Please hold. This is the part that pisses me off. I extended them the courtesy of holding several times, and it's what screwed everything up. Now it's 9:55. Connor: I'm really sorry. I see that you did make an appointment, and I made a mistake. I didn't enter it into the schedule. I'm really sorry. Me: Connor, listen to me. I'm ready to start crying right now. I have a photo shoot downtown today in less than 2 hours. I really need this blow dry. I can still come right now. Please work with me. I can be there in 2 minutes. This is VERY IMPORTANT. Connor: Hold on, let me ask the stylist. Have you ever been cock-blocked from something you really, really want? You know that horrible, sinking feeling when you first realize the cock-block is happening? This is the feeling I'm having right now. Now it's 10:00 Connor: I'm really sorry. There's not enough time because someone's coming in at 10:30. Me: Connor LISTEN TO ME. I'm PISSED. You just admitted this is your fault. It's 10:00 now. I keep telling you I can be there in 2 minutes. I can be there at 10:02. It really shouldn't take long. My hair is washed and wet, and ready to blow dry. Connor: Hold on. Now it's 10:05 Connor: I talked to the stylist and one thing I can do is call our 10:30 appointment and ask her to come later, would that work? Me: (Sinking sinking feeling.) Ok Connor calls me back at 10:10 Connor: I'm really sorry, I can't reach her... Me: Connor, please help me. I really need you to honor my appointment, which is the least you could do. Just let me come by right now, PLEASE! I did realize that I was yelling. But I was standing there with wet hair, full makeup, all dressed up for my photo shoot, and perhaps the saddest look of desperation I've ever worn. I was a hot mess. Connor: Could you hold on another second? Now it's 10:15. I seriously think they could have styled my hair beautifully in the time it took them to sort their shit out. Connor: The stylist won't take you, I'm really sorry. Me (and now I'm PISSED): This 10:30 customer, is it Madonna? (I really said this.) And who is this stylist? I can't believe this! Can I speak to the manager? Connor: Actually the stylist is the owner's daughter, so...... I hung up and styled my own hair. But you know what? I learned 3 really valuable lessons today! 1) As a customer, I am not important to CFYB. This is actually really valuable information. 2) When you get bad, "sorry but not that sorry" service, move on! I could have prevented this experience by remembering my last visit (which I won't get into); and 3) I'm much better than I thought at styling my own hair. :-) It turned out pretty well. read more

I used to go here on a regular basis for Brazilian waxes, but after my most recent visit, I will never set foot in here again. I had an appointment w/ an esthetician I had never seen before because my usual was unavailable. Since I never really had a bad experience here, I thought I would be okay. WRONG. I saw her double-dip with my own eyes (even though she claims this is untrue). And the next day, I had developed bumps and rashes on the areas where she had waxed (and I NEVER have developed bumps/rashes in the 10 years I've been getting waxes, every 6-8 weeks). I actually had to see a doctor to provide me medications for controlling the itchiness and inflammation. Bottomline? I will NEVER EVER come here ever again for a wax. The only esthetician you should trust if you have to come here for a wax is Veronica, never had a problem with her services. read more

I set out to treat my girlfriends to a spa day that was central to our homes in the city. Chocolate for Your Body was the closest one and had good ratings, so we arranged for a spa day. When we got there, the place was clean and it smelled great. The decor was good and the entire place looked professional and inviting. My only gripe has to be with the attitudes of the staff. Some of the ladies were rude and had an attitude when we had genuine concerns and questions. Granted, we had a lot of questions and some of my girlfriends arrived late, but I didn't feel like that warrented a negative and rude attitude. The woman who did my mani/pedi was great, she was friendly and joked around as she did my mani. I can't say the same for her coworkers. Nonetheless, the manis and pedis were great; I had the Choco mani/pedi, which is their specialty. It was relaxing and made my hands smell like chocolate all day. My girlfriends were pleased with the service, but not the attitudes. I might be back, but I know my friends won't. read more

I went during the MedSpa week promo and like others I had made the mistake of not reading the reviews. I got a massage and a mani/pedi. The massage itself was fine. However, the following made it poor: -Having to go down creaky stairs to what looks like a dungeon -The table looked like it wouldn't support a toddler -The masseuse sat on a stool (not a prob) that squeaked every time he moved, so the mood and music were constantly interrupted by squeaking -Too much oil and he should know to ask a female if they want oil in their hair before starting a scalp massage Next up was the mani/pedi. I have an inkling the nail technician didn't go to school, she just took whatever Cosmo's "10 Tips For Terrific Toes" said and copied. She: -Didn't scrub my feet or pumice them -Managed to leave 10 toenails 10 different lengths -Cut me to the point of drawing blood on two different cuticles on my toes and one on my finger -When she was doing my fingernails I asked her what the name of the tool she was using was, because I wanted to get one. She laughed and said it's called a cuticle remover. Google tells me it's a dual cuticle pusher -She seemed shocked that I wanted to pay before having my fingernails painted, so I don't have to have them touched up. Little did I know what would happen next -The fingernails were painted so thickly that they were not dry two (!) hours later when I was at home. I had to strip the polish off at home because it had become a globby mess. Lo and behold I had 10 different lengths again. I showed a coworker on Monday and she could not believe that a professional had done that The promo mentioned chocolate martinis. I got a four oz water cooler cup of faux Baileys over belnded ice. When I asked for a straw, so I didn't end up eating ice I was given coffee stirrers, but I was told if I sucked really hard the "martini" wold come through. I really don't know what to make of this place. It's not a spa. It charges more than my local nail chop shop that gives excellent mani/pedis for significantly less. The owner was floating around (like someone else had mentioned) and blending drinks in the middle of the spa, because nothing adds to a spa night than hearing a blender go off every few minutes. One would think she might want to talk to the customers as opposed to running around tasting cheap drinks all night. I paid 50$ for a crap mani/pedi that is cheaper than their normal price, so I can imagine how much I would hate it if I had paid full price. I can recommend Nail Gallery on Damen at Armitage or CiCis at Lincoln west of Ashland for a good mani/pedi. Both places have a normal price of ~40$ and do amazing work. Don't come to CFYB. read more

First off, I came here because I purchase a Groupon Now- $4 for CND Shellac Manicure. Yes, it was only $4! Not including tip. Anyway, everyone in this salon is sooo sweet. I really wanted to like this place but I feel that there are more cons than pros when it came down to everything. I thought the chairs for customers during manicures were very uncomfortable. They're wood chairs with a pillow for you to sit on. The manicurist was very nice and pleasant but she didn't do a good job. My manicure started to chip the very next day. :( It's been a week and I already went to a different place to get a mani/pedi to fix what was damaged. Anyway, I'd like to say that service is awesome and the salon is kept clean. read more
