Loooove me all da chocolate!! This place has everything chocolate and it does not disappoint. There are lots and lots of options. The inside is on the smaller side and they don't have any places to sit. It's more of a get your goods and go type of place. I'm rating this a 4 star bc of the service. I might not be as educated on what makes a truffle a truffle and the reaction I got from asking the staff member that was not the greatest. We were walking around Galena for my son's birthday and came across this little shop. I picked up truffles for the four of us and it was two of the Red Velvet and two chocolate. The flavor was spot on and this is something that I would stop in for again while visiting. The prices were on par and in most cases a little cheaper than what I pay in Chicago. read more

This is a really cute store with really nice employees. Really nice service. I bought toffee, fudge, chocolate covered marshmallows, and turtles to curb my need for a chocolate fix. It was all good. I do prefer candies made on-site vs imported chocolate though. The chocolates were not quite as fresh as I'd like them. So I give it a solid 3.5 star experience. read more

So I asked again and she acted as if I was a socially inept peasant for not possessing the foreknowledge of these unique confectionary creations. S'mores truffle was incredible! Pumpkin truffle had a light hint of flavor, as did the Jack Daniel's truffle. Service was fast. As for ambience, no inside seating and signage prefers you eat outside the business. It was $1.25 for smaller truffles and $3.25 for larger. read more

Most chocolates are a dollar a piece, bigger truffles are a bit more. I couldn't help myself and bought quite a few. Not one bad choice. The dollar pieces are tiny, but full of flavor. Don't misjudge them by size. These chocolates are all imported, so the expense makes sense. Gift boxes carry a higher price tag, you can get a better deal making your own box. Let me preface by saying I'm from out of town and have worked in the pastry industry for 13 years. I went to Galena explicitly to get high quality truffles and fudge. I was not disappointed; worth every penny. Picked up a dozen truffles, some handmade fudge, and other small bites. Outstanding! The service was excellent. The owner(s?) were very knowledgeable, helpful and inviting. You can see that they have an absolute passion for fine confections and chocolate. If chocolate makes you happy, then prepare yourself accordingly; you might die of joy overload! The amaretto truffles are rich, flavorful, and are to die for. I can't think of anything bad to say, save for one regret: I didn't buy nearly enough! I will be going back there again. Five stars. read more

These chocolates are expensive, but as tourists to Galena they were definitely worth it. My wife and I went for a couples massage and some of these chocolates were given to us after. After eating a few of these at the spa we knew we needed to visit the store. I highly recommend getting the smaller chocolates, the chocolate dipped bacon sounded like so much fun to me but wasn't as much worth it (I could've made it myself). Chocolat is a decadent and equally dangerous place especially for someone who's a chocolate fiend like myself. Most of the chocolates come from Switzerland, France, Germany and Belgium. According to the associate at the store, the larger bon bons at the bottom are from Belgium and are about $2.50 a piece. Most people would balk at paying $2 a piece for chocolate however, you must understand the type of ingredients used to create perfection. Lower quality chocolate has a waxy taste to it whereas manufacturers of fine chocolate actually adhere to standards established such as percentage of cocoa used to create the pieces. Anyway, the bon bons looked tempting but I opted for the truffles. I chose a wide variety of truffles ranging from classic chocolate to white pear. However, the grand marnier bon bon caught my eye and couldn't resist. Overall, I bought about 8 pieces of either truffles and the grand marnier bon bons to share with my friends that night. read more

I'm about to buy a few things in there especially the peanut butter it looked good and one of the employees got into a discussion with a customer that broke something and he asked where is the sign saying basically if you break it, you buy it and the clerk behind the counter said why do I need that it takes brains? Fantastic selection of chocolates from typical truffles to really interesting and inspired chocolates. The amaretto dark chocolate truffle is to die for. I took about 5 minutes to slowly savor that baby! This is definitely a place to go for gifts as they taste as amazing as they look. There's a lot of "wow" factor going on here. This place is definitely a splurge. Prices range from $1-3 each. I did like that I didn't receive any dirty looks from the person helping me when I only bought one. I do wish the sales guy didn't constantly joke "hey you want samples? here have some crumbs" to everyone that asked. If you don't offer samples that's fine, just politely say no. read more

It was Mother's Day weekend, so I decided to up the ante and treat myself to a fancy sweet treat. I walked into Chocolat and was immediately impressed by the beautiful collection they have. I carefully picked out my selection which ranged from the chocolate covered bacon to various truffles. The woman who helped me out was very nice, and I couldn't wait to get my hands on the little gems I picked out which she meticulously places on a tray like one would when picking out diamonds. I had about 8 pieces of bite-sized "diamonds" in my collection which averaged about $2 a piece. For that amount, I expected my order to be placed in one of the boxes they have generously displayed behind the counter. But no. My precious gems were violently thrown into a generic white bag which I liken to a bag at a greasy hot dog joint. Disappointing. We were very disappointed at our visit to Chocolat. The two men serving could have cared less if we bought out the store or walked out. We ordered a few chocolates from the counter and were given our total before we could ask for a sundae. The ice cream was no more than average and the "hot fudge" tasted like it was pulled out of a can of cheap Hershey's syrup. It was so disappointing when you have so many options and end up spending $15 on a cheap knockoff. The shop was beautiful but everything felt fake after realizing the chocolate was so overrated. Chocolat offers a vast array of gourmet chocolates imported from Europe, as well as some domestic chocolates. There were so many good looking chocolates to choose from that my husband and I both had a hard time choosing what to puchase. Fortunately, the employees were patient with us. They were very friendly and helpful. We each ended up purchasing 5 different gourmet chocolates, and I also got a milk chocolate cashew myrtle. Be careful, they will try to cheat you into buying more than you want. Went in earlier today and heard a clerk tell another customer a small box fits 4-6 chocolates. Came back later to actually get chocolate (so they wouldn't melt while walking). Picked out six and was told by the owner/manager (it was one of the two according to their webpage) that the six wouldn't fit in the box, and that I should pick out two more for the next box size up (where they all would fit). This struck me as weird since the other customer I know was told that six can fit. I figured perhaps I had just picked out too many large ones. I asked the "clerk" to just leave out the two that won't fit, and I'd eat them first. "Clerk" was suddenly able to magically fit all six in the box without issue. Not pleased at attempted con to get me to buy more. Will not return. Be careful. read more

As we strolled down Main Street in Galena, I was glad I gave into temptation and stopped in at Chocolat. Chad was friendly and helpful, helping me make my selection. And when I finally bit into my first truffle... DELISH! My favorite was the Key Lime Truffle, it was so delightful I phoned the store to thank Chad again for his help.
