Breakfast was ok, good bacon and almost proper hash browns but the eggs were a bit overcooked. Turkey sandwich was pleasant. With some attention to detail this could be a top notch choice. The two woman who waitress at this restaurant are very nasty and unprofessional. I was having breakfast and I had asked about the toast - Texas toast verses regular bread- I was confused because the bread I received looked like regular sized bread and I thought that Texas toast was bigger - so I asked if it was Texas toast or regular- she became defensive and stated "thats what the cook gave me". I then asked if she could please just ask the cook if it was the wrong toast perhaps the cook forgot or something - she got even more snide with me and then said that's what we have- I asked if it's the same price or more money and then I said ok and dropped it- then she proceeded to talk shit about me to her coworkers right in front of me- so I said "hey that's not okay I was just asking a question I have never been nasty to you I was just asking a simple question talking like that behind my back like that is not okay". they she started claiming I was the one who was wrong for asking a question about toast - this of course upset me and I let her know that - she was making me wrong for her attitude- but of course like a truly unprofessional nasty person she continued to blame me -a 54 year old who was just confused in the moment -like I was the bad guy now that I was very offended and upset and letting her know she can't treat me that way it wasn't fair to me by being treated that way and being blamed for her attitled. She then threatened to kick me out took my food away from me and demanded that I leave- I think these ladies are nasty and just plan bad people - don't eat here and if you do - watch out - they talk shit about you behind your back after pretending to be nice - these fake women are very unprofessional. read more

Atmosphere: Choate's Family Diner is an unassuming small building. It isn't a big retro, shiny diner, but it does look like a small-town diner. Inside are plenty of booths, tables, and a full-length bar. Idaho doesn't have a mask mandate, and I was the only one wearing a mask, including staff. Coffee: The coffee at Choate's Family Diner was good. It wasn't anything unusual, but it was brewed hot and fresh. Food: Choate's Family Diner menu has everything you expect a greasy spoon, no-frills diner to have. There are plenty of omelets, steak, and eggs, and sandwich options too. If you're looking for a healthier option, you probably won't find it at Choate's Family Diner.  I was craving steak and eggs, so I decided to order that. It came with eggs (I chose scrambled), steak (I wanted rare), toast (sourdough bread), and hashbrowns or fried potatoes (I chose fried potatoes). The entire meal was excellent. Everything was cooked as asked. The steak was one of the better diner steaks I've had. Choate's Family Diner is also known for its meat lovers hashbrowns and I got a half order that. I can't even imagine what a full order was like! The three meats hash comes with green peppers, onion, shredded cheese, ham, bacon, and sausage.  If you stop at Choate's Family Diner, I highly recommend it as it was delicious. Service: The hostess was friendly and our food was ready when we ordered it. Would I Come Back? I liked Choate's Family Diner and it is the stereotypical greasy spoon diner. We enjoyed our first visit to Choate's. The waitresses were very professional and kind. The food was good. We ordered Burgers (Avocado & a cheeseburger) and a BLT. All were cooked well. For our sides we got tater tots, homemade potato chips and munchers (based off the description of our server - it is like a jalapeño popper with just enough spice, but not too much heat) which were fried to perfection and very tasty. To top it off, we shared a piece of chocolate cream pie a la mode and were pleasantly surprised that the ice cream was soft ice cream. The decor is super cute, like a 50's diner. I love the turquoise and white booths which resemble upholster seats of a 1950's car. read more

I wanted to like it... walking in is a trip back in time, but without the need for a flux capacitor. Great Scott! At lunch time, it's pretty crowded...all good signs. Prices are very reasonable. Unfortunately, the food fell short. Hamburger patties are extremely thin, underseasoned, and pressed enough to lose most of its moisture content. I felt like I was biting down on a gauze pad at the dentist. Chili dog was palatable, but the chili has some question marks. That's probably the "almost" speaking in their claim to "almost famous." Chicken salad sandwich was good, but underseasoned. Split pea soup has its qualities, but someone seriously introduce Choates to spices. Wars were fought over the stuff. At least add salt. Idaho is, after all, salt of the Earth kind of people. read more

Great little small town diner, roughly a mile from the highway on the left. Building is a light brown/tan, small, and you just might miss it. Nice 'country' style family restaurant with good food. Friendly, polite, and professional staff. It was recommended by family here, and they were spot on. We stop and eat here pretty frequently every time we come into Jerome/Wendell from Wisconsin to visit family. The service is good, the food and portions are great. We particularly like the breakfast fare, always good whenever we come here. Might take a bit longer due to COVID restrictions, but definitely worth the extra few minutes wait. To be honest this is one of my favorite burger places in my city. To me second best burger place around not number one but it's very much up there. Sometimes service is slow. This place is also I believe to be one of the many restaurants in Jerome, Idaho. To not discriminate against hiring male or female employees as far as it seem's. Every one of waitresses are usually nice to me. I always can come in and get a Burger and fries depending on what I'm in mood for for a fairly reasonable and affordable price. The employees are attentive don't get me wrong. The only flaw I can see is if they could get and pay more attention to refills. There has been many time's I have been overlooked on that aspect. Service was great but the food was not! They were really cheap on the portions. I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich; I got two very thin slices of ham and a thin slice of cheese. My husband's pastrami sandwich was the same, and covered with tons of canned gravy. I wouldn't go here again. read more

Came in for a to go order. Younger lady gave me a menu. I knew right away what I wanted but I sat there at counter waiting to give my order. Younger lady was busy farther off. Older lady walked by several times while playing with her, I assume, grandkid whose mom was eating at the counter. I waited several minutes then older lady was going to take my order but realized I had wrong menu, not the"TO GO" one. Handed me the"To Go" menu. I flipped to breakfast and yep my chicken fried steak that I wanted was available still but now it appeared to be higher priced. I can't be for certain but I thought it was only 7.99 in regular menu, now it's 10.29 in "To Go" menu. Ok. I waited patiently again for waitress...... Older lady still walking around but not paying me any attention. Finally a third lady comes by and completes my order including from the kitchen. It took me longer to give my order than it did to get it cooked. Needless to say, I didn't leave a tip. Meal was mediocre. Nothing special. Slightly disappointed. read more

Jerome has lots of cows but only one diner that is amazing. The hungry man breakfast here should be legendary. The sausage links are the size of a grown man's thigh and the bacon is as thick as the accent of some of the residents in the town. I stopped in town to fill up on gas on a long road trip and ended up here for breakfast. I was so glad I did. The wait staff was incredibly chipper for that early in the morning and the mountains of food really hit the spot. This is definitely a place for the weary traveler to get some of momma's cookin'.
