The stylists themselves have always been kind and do their best, but they often seem overwhelmed and unsupported. The actual color service has generally been fine, but the overall experience has consistently been frustrating. Some of the recurring issues I've experienced include: The app frequently does not work properly for scheduling appointments. I've arrived and been told they had the wrong appointment time for me. Long wait times have repeatedly made me late for work. No hot water -- this has happened twice on very cold days. I was told they had been requesting a new water heater for months. Washing hair with cold water in the winter is unacceptable. My computer charger broke because one of the outlets was extremely tight. Staff attempted to contact a manager about reimbursement, but I never heard back. Appointments are often delayed or disrupted because a staff member has called out at the last minute. There is no way to reach a live person by phone when issues come up. The fact that this is my first Yelp review ever really says a lot. I truly want this place to succeed, but it feels like both the staff and customers deserve better support and management. I keep saying I'm not going to return, but I still have the membership, which is the only reason I've continued coming back.

The salon is respectful of your time and does not double and or triple book their stylists so you are able to get in and out within a reasonable amount of time, receive quality service and not feel ignored or rushed. There have been times when stylists have moved on and the front desk staff made every effort to ensure I was paired with a stylist who specialized in working with curly hair. The owners have worked hard to provide an upscale and relaxed experience that is consistent. The salon is clean, calming and soothing without the threat of children / pets destroying the environment. Please be aware before booking your appointment - Salon L is not a daycare center so if you're asked to remove a disruptive situation, please understand the request - as I personally don't want to be forced to endure the pain. Let me preface this by saying the cut is very cute but my stylist, Karen, really had no idea what…read moreto do with curly 3c/4a hair. I went here for the first time. I walked by and saw Black Women inside and went in to ask about what was offered. The woman I spoke to stated that they do natural curly hair and had products for me. When I made the appointment I verified this again. First, the stylist used a clarifying shampoo which stripped all my moisture. Then she towel dried it, frizzing up my curls. Then she combed them out, which I'm assuming was to trim the ends straight, but this left me with no curls at all. As I said, the shape of the cut was cute. But I had to walk her through the process of re-wetting my hair to bring my curls back, no towel dry, and then tell her to use liberal amount of the curl cream she had. It still wasn't enough. I went home and gave myself a deep conditioning hair mask and put it all the products (about half a jar) to make my curls pretty and bouncy again. I might go back to Karen for a cut but I was really disappointed by the lack of knowledge about curly hair. And I was so excited to find this place previously.

I came here because it isn't a place you might expect "a person like me to visit" and because I liked one of my barbers at beauty school so much that I decided to follow him to whatever shop he was at. They definitely specialize in working with women's hair and locks, but with the addition of Kornell, they certainly can accept male clients with comfortability. So, I knew I was going to get a quality cut. Something about this particular cut was one of my best. I think the following contributed to this: 1. I'm older and appreciate what's around me more. 2. I knew the salonist before. 3. The place was nice and inviting inside. 4. It was one of my best cuts ever I think. 5. I unintentionally fell asleep, but I didn't want to talk much since it's a pandemic and I have a mask on anyway. My salonist was still okay with it. Maybe also because I tend not to get fussy- I make for a great client for beauty schools cause I just like saving money to maintain my hair too. With the pandemic, the beauty schools were closed for awhile when I checked. So, I opted for regular salons. It helped that I had a few pictures for him to choose from before starting. I think it would be a cool feature if when I make the appointment in advance online, if I could attach pictures in a message along with doing the appointment in advance. That could potentially make it easier on the workers rather than having for me to scramble for pics on my phone and then letting them go through that. Which is okay too. If you arrive or can arrive earlier than your appointment last minute, it's best to call in advance to see if it would be helpful for them to have you come in earlier. I know this because I had a distance to go and couldn't predict when I could get there and park exactly. And then I had to use the bathroom and I almost still had to come back for my appointment, but my salonist saw me and said it would be better to take me in at that moment and I was fine with that. So, that's how I know, lol. Cause if they have another client running late, they might still try to accommodate that person even if they have to make that person wait since they were late to their own appointment. The prices for males seem standard for a professional place that offers quality haircuts. Even though they are further out from downtown, because the place inside is cozy and has a nice bathroom, they are able to fairly hold their own with the prices they offer. I could potentially see some people thinking that the prices are a bit high. Most of the reviews of this place are very positive, and I do get the sense they're reading these and that they try to improve from any mistakes from poor reviews that seem like they were fair and well intentioned.
