I actually made a specific trip to this sandwich shop. It's about a 15 minute walk from work, but I'd noticed it a while ago, and thought it looked really quaint in its unexpectedly quiet road right off the busy main street.
I was immediately a bit unimpressed with the sandwich filing options. In my opinion, you need the basics and then work up. These guys had about seven varieties of chicken filling, but nothing that was just chicken mayonnaise or the like. To be honest, I didn't particularly want Italian chicken (with tomato and herb sauce - I asked what was in it but the server didn't know), or indeed Thai, BBQ, avocado, etc. But I'd made the effort to get there so I went with Italian.
There was then a weirdly long wait, given there was one person in front of me. One of the virtues of sandwich shops is that they are a quick option while still offering something fresh, but was hanging around for a while.
Then took my sandwich back to work, only to open it and discover that the bread was mouldy. Totally put me off. I would have brought it back and complained, but by then I was 15 minutes away and my break was over. I didn't eat it, obviously, so can't comment on the filling, but this is totally unacceptable. I'm not a martyr to best before dates, and will often take a fairly liberal approach to using ingredients as long as they seem ok, but in an establishment that sells food, I think it's vital that they are on top of these things, and it makes me feel squeamish to think what else might be missed. read more
