Merry Christmas to all! So... this Christmas Eve we wanted to have a dinner that reminded is of back in the day Colombia dinner. We ordered a Lechona and man I was so excited to get my grub on. This was the biggest fail ever. This thing I honestly can't find anything good about it. The food: The skin it's self was not cleaned right it needed a good shave they didn't even burn of the hair properly. When it came the rice is was mush. No texture to it , it was pudding. The seasoning was so strong it made you nose burn. Cumin is a major part of a lechona not all of it! We could not eat it no even my brother in law that it's it all I'll tell you that at least the homeless ate it. Even rhat I felt a little bad doing. Picture is the perfect example of looks can be deceiving Gave 2 stars because empanadas while we waited were good. Should have took a hint when it was all empty. read more

The food was great, but unfortunately the service was disappointing. The tables are quite small for two people, and when a few beans accidentally fell, I waited about 10 minutes for assistance. Several staff members saw what happened and repeatedly walked past without offering help. It honestly felt intentional, they cleaned every other table around us except ours. They also forgot parts of our order, and once the food was finally brought out, we were completely ignored for the rest of the visit. Another customer even left because they weren't being attended either. I rarely write reviews like this, but the lack of basic courtesy and attention made me feel uncomfortable -- possibly even discriminated against. Management, please review your cameras and address this. No paying customer should ever be made to feel unwelcome or invisible. The food deserves praise, but the service absolutely needs improvement. read more

Food and staff has consistently been great! However when you order through Grubhub you may get the food late, cold and the driver took a detour to another restaurant to pick up orders when you are the closer client. Grubhub told me "Sorry, we'll work to correct this" but offered nothing else. read more

This was my first time here and Everything was great. Quick service. Friendly staff. Food tasted amazing. Quick table turn which makes it better for someone on the go. read more

Good homemade-love me food for a fair price. Fast service and friendly. Family like ambiance. I recommend their daily specials, two for the price of one. I love their bandeja paisa, chuleta ballanera, their delicious empanadas, etc. Food is good, I recommend it. read more

Más nunca vengo. read more

Located at a strip mall off the Palmetto, Chiva's has been a neighborhood staple for well over a decade. The restaurant serves Colombian classics - bandeja paisa, mondongo, mojarra frita - at very inexpensive prices. They also sell Colombian baked goods, empanadas and arepas. The decor is modern Colombia folksy, and there is always traditional Colombian music playing in the background. Service is correct, but they are usually short-staffed during busy hours, so do not expect uttermost attentiveness. Dishes may come unsynchronized, orders may be taken incorrectly. But all for good food. Simple and uncomplicated, this is not a place to bring a date, but it is great for casual lunch. read more

This place was honestly pretty gross. The cafe con leche was way oversugared. The beef empanadas were super oily and pretty gross. Over salty as well. The pan de bono was also dry and nothing great about. Nothing special here, I'd pass next time. read more

I highly recommend this place, it's a must try if you are nearby, food taste amazing and also came in big portions. Give it a try

Came by for lunch with a friend and he recommended this restaurant. Unfortunately, when we came in most of the tables were dirty so that definitely was not a great first impression. The service was nice and the food was decent. My friend had the grilled chicken with rice, beans and a salad. I had the garlic shrimp with white rice, salad, and maduros. Everything was great except for the shrimp. It had a bit of a rubbery consistency which wasn't that pleasant. The cafe I had after my meal was GREAT so I'll keep it at 3 stars. read more

Eh Been here a few times and it's always the same. Chicharron is not crunchy. Chorizo is ok, at best. Empanadas are way overheated. Buñuelo is stale. Service is subpar as well. Don't waste your time read more

I gave a second chance, first time horrible as well the second time. The customer service is what makes this place have such a bad review as well. I asked for a soda (which they upsell) bring you the glass bottle versus the can of the Colombiana. I had to get up and get it myself from the counter because the server didn't want to go around. After, I sat down and realized they didn't open it for me, had to get up again and ask for them to open because I don't have a bottle opener. Steak sandwich is disgusting (first time experience) however the empanadas are delicious. Which they said they are out cheese kind, (second experience) the server later asked me if I wanted her to fry some as if I'm making them go out their way. (We did order four of them) Third time will not be a charm. read more

Giving the three stars because I am not a fan of their food but they can improve in taste and quality. The service was great considering they were closing soon. And the place was clean too. read more

Good service which says a lot in Miami Lakes/Hialeah. The food is delicious (home cooked) and well priced. Daily specials never leave you disappointed. read more

Rock de mi pueblo. I just finished writing about Cali Cafe in Doral (way thumbs down) and mentioned one of my favorite Colombian restaurants in Miami Lakes, Chivas Express. It's in a strip mall just north of the 826 67th Ave exit. This is some of the best Colombian food served in Miami at a fantastic price. Their sobrebarriga is excellent. It has the right sauces and is flavorful. Served with freshly made white rice and patacornes (tostones, or fried green plantains). Ajiaco and sancocho are excellent. They do not always have the ajiaco, it's usually a special of the week. When they have it, get it. This is how ajiaco should be made with gusacas and heavy cream. My mouth waters when I think about it. The sancocho has the saffron, cilantro, potatoes, yucca, and chicken. Empanadas - small, crisp, and at a cheap price. Panebono - they have small to super big pieces. Fresh and tasty. The also have other typical Colombian fare like egg on steak, arepas, and fried chicken breast. Prices are low too. I've been to this restaurant many, many times over the last five years so I can't speak to any one incident like I normally do in my other reviews, but I just feel its important to share with the community an excellent, reasonably priced Colombian restaurant. read more

Pleasant surprise! I'm not Colombian but the menu closely resembles the foods from my mother's country, Ecuador. (Colombia and Ecuador are neighbors) I had the "Bandeja Paisa", which was sweet plantains, rice, red beans, fried pork, arepa, an egg and a soda. All for 8.49. Shared it with a big buddy with a big appetite and we both left full. I loved the rice. Fluffy and perfectly salty. The beans were great too. Perfectly seasoned AND NOT FROM A CAN. The arepa was the only disappointment - very, very bland. It's a clean, yet small establishment. The decor gives me a small headache. Too many intense colors. But I like the food enough to ignore it. read more

I'm not Colombian however this food was very good very homie. Try the arroz con pollo. I've lived in the neighborhood all my life and can't believe I hadn't tried this place. read more

The best Colombian food in Miami, homemade! Great service! Thank you Chivas I go all the time and love it!!!!they have the best empanadas read more

The service sucks! They have great lunch specials and the food is good, but damn what a turn off. They never want to pay attention. I go here because its nearby my job and my dad loves the specials, but I rather spend my money elsewhere if they do not want to give me the time of day. You can get better pan de bonos and empandas at the Bakery on 57 ave next to dunkin donuts. read more

Good food IF you dine in, because theyre delivery service sucks They had us waiting on plates for 30 minutes and no one ever showed up with plates after they told us they would send us plates. So we call them back and then they tell us they DONT HAVE PLATES!! That what our order did not need plates ‍ And then the girl in the phone was very disrespectful and rude! So definitely if you want to eat they're food you should go and eat in read more

My food was unimpressive. We ordered takeout, a bandeja paisa and meat empanadas. The chicharrón and the steak were way too hard. The empanadas were mediocre compared to other Colombian restaurants. However, the chorizo was pretty good and the empanada was all right. As for service, the food was ready on time. To sum it all up, the food was not as good as the other reviews led me to believe. Maybe this time was a fluke, but it's enough for me to look elsewhere next time I'm in the mood for Colombian cuisine. read more

If I could leave less than one star I would. I come here often and just so happens that today when I went I ordered a bandeja paisa which was on special (I didn't notice). The owner took my order and didn't even bother to mention the special. On my way out I realized it was on special so I told the workers that I would like to take the second one home. (It was buy one get one free). He said no. That he couldn't give me the second one WHEN IT SAYS BUY ONE GET ONE FREE BANDEJA PAISA ON WEDNESDAYS. No one cared to mention the special when I ordered it. They only care about the money and not about customers. That was unethical. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. read more

Their breakfast is really good, and they provide authentic Colombian options like empanadas, buñuelos, chorizos, chicharon, etc. The deditos are very delicious, it taste like you are biting in to clouds. The only thing is their natural juices are watered down, and do not taste sweet at all. The service isn't all that great either. There's been times where I've walked in without being greeted and waited at the counter for several minutes because the workers were on the side preparing things. read more

The food is good the empanadas are great meat is the best the place is alright pretty average Colombian place dining in is a good time but delivery is very annoying they have bad reception and they don't go out of their way to help they're very stingy with the spicy sauce I once made a big delivery order and they didn't even put one ! read more

My and my daughter ordered 2 arepas mines was with eggs tomatoes onions and it had no flavor. The arepa was too soft. My daughters arepa so an open face with eggs and ham. Her arepa was so hard she had a hard time trying to cut into it with a knife. They added a cilantro Béchamel sauce that had no flavor. Super unsatisfied. The only thing that was good was the empanadas and carimanolas. Sala is also very good. read more

Food is always delicious, been going to this restaurant for years and have not had any problems. Do not forget to ask about the daily specials !! read more

I went to this place as I was craving empanadas and it was close...got my empanadas and a Sancocho as well. Bad decision, I put it to go and ate the Sancocho at home...I smelled something weird on the Sancocho but thought maybe it was the spices on it. After I finished eating it I got super tired as if I took some kind of sleeping pill, well immediately I started sweating cold and vomiting all... to resume, I got food poisoning. I knew immediately it was this soup as was the only meal I had during that day. Never again! read more

Nice quick selection of foods ranging from platters to premade corn meal empanadas. The menu up top is pretty much all spanish, so grab the paper menu (granted, if you are a usual at this location you probably eat live breath spanish already). The cafe con leche was hot and delicious, (empanada was columbian style? so cornedbeef like insides). The yuca fries? Lemme tell you bout these yuca fries. Crispy on the outside, soft but dense on the inside; dip those bad boys in some green sauce and you got a snack. read more

Good food with an affordable price. The service is not that great majority of time unless you are the only person there

Horrible experience with owner over the phone. Honestly they jut don't care to make things right, even if it's there fault.

Had the bandejas paisa. 1 order is more than enough to share w/another person(: The frijoles were flavorful!- but carne asada was just o.k. The chicharron & plantains were v bland. Overall, I've had better at other fritangas. The staff was sweet, though, and it's a charming, casual spot. The baked goods looked amazing. The verdict: just O.K. read more

Food was cooked perfect and full of flavor!! Perfect for a quick filling dinner before our concert at New Testament Church!

I really don't like the food in this place. The empanadas are full of potatoe n no meat. Also I had the churasco meal n it was a little bit too much money for the quanity of food. read more

My cortadito was extremely cold. They didnt even bother to heat up my cheese bread and when I asked to please heat it up the waitress looked at me like she was doing me a favor. Cheese bread is suppose to be hot or even warm not extremely cold! Even when they did heat it up it was tasteless. My mom ordered the pan con bistec and fries and the fries were undercooked ,mushy and extremely greasing, the steak was paper thin so she was practically served bread with lettuce and tomato. The service was horrible. They didn't even serve us water at the table and when I asked for 2 glasses of water they just served one. That was a total waste of money. Will never be back! read more
