Merry Christmas to all! So... this Christmas Eve we wanted to have a dinner that reminded is of back in the day Colombia dinner. We ordered a Lechona and man I was so excited to get my grub on. This was the biggest fail ever. This thing I honestly can't find anything good about it. The food: The skin it's self was not cleaned right it needed a good shave they didn't even burn of the hair properly. When it came the rice is was mush. No texture to it , it was pudding. The seasoning was so strong it made you nose burn. Cumin is a major part of a lechona not all of it! We could not eat it no even my brother in law that it's it all I'll tell you that at least the homeless ate it. Even rhat I felt a little bad doing. Picture is the perfect example of looks can be deceiving Gave 2 stars because empanadas while we waited were good. Should have took a hint when it was all empty. read more

The food was great, but unfortunately the service was disappointing. The tables are quite small for two people, and when a few beans accidentally fell, I waited about 10 minutes for assistance. Several staff members saw what happened and repeatedly walked past without offering help. It honestly felt intentional, they cleaned every other table around us except ours. They also forgot parts of our order, and once the food was finally brought out, we were completely ignored for the rest of the visit. Another customer even left because they weren't being attended either. I rarely write reviews like this, but the lack of basic courtesy and attention made me feel uncomfortable -- possibly even discriminated against. Management, please review your cameras and address this. No paying customer should ever be made to feel unwelcome or invisible. The decor is modern Colombia folksy, and there is always traditional Colombian music playing in the background. Service is correct, but they are usually short-staffed during busy hours, so do not expect uttermost attentiveness. Dishes may come unsynchronized, orders may be taken incorrectly. Came by for lunch with a friend and he recommended this restaurant. Unfortunately, when we came in most of the tables were dirty so that definitely was not a great first impression. The service was nice and the food was decent. My friend had the grilled chicken with rice, beans and a salad. I had the garlic shrimp with white rice, salad, and maduros. Everything was great except for the shrimp. It had a bit of a rubbery consistency which wasn't that pleasant. The cafe I had after my meal was GREAT so I'll keep it at 3 stars. read more

I gave a second chance, first time horrible as well the second time. The customer service is what makes this place have such a bad review as well. I asked for a soda (which they upsell) bring you the glass bottle versus the can of the Colombiana. I had to get up and get it myself from the counter because the server didn't want to go around. After, I sat down and realized they didn't open it for me, had to get up again and ask for them to open because I don't have a bottle opener. Steak sandwich is disgusting (first time experience) however the empanadas are delicious. Which they said they are out cheese kind, (second experience) the server later asked me if I wanted her to fry some as if I'm making them go out their way. Rock de mi pueblo. I just finished writing about Cali Cafe in Doral (way thumbs down) and mentioned one of my favorite Colombian restaurants in Miami Lakes, Chivas Express. It's in a strip mall just north of the 826 67th Ave exit. This is some of the best Colombian food served in Miami at a fantastic price. Their sobrebarriga is excellent. It has the right sauces and is flavorful. Served with freshly made white rice and patacornes (tostones, or fried green plantains). Ajiaco and sancocho are excellent. They do not always have the ajiaco, it's usually a special of the week. When they have it, get it. This is how ajiaco should be made with gusacas and heavy cream. My mouth waters when I think about it. The sancocho has the saffron, cilantro, potatoes, yucca, and chicken. Empanadas - small, crisp, and at a cheap price. Panebono - they have small to super big pieces. Fresh and tasty. The also have other typical Colombian fare like egg on steak, arepas, and fried chicken breast. Prices are low too. I've been to this restaurant many, many times over the last five years so I can't speak to any one incident like I normally do in my other reviews, but I just feel its important to share with the community an excellent, reasonably priced Colombian restaurant. read more

Pleasant surprise! I'm not Colombian but the menu closely resembles the foods from my mother's country, Ecuador. (Colombia and Ecuador are neighbors) I had the "Bandeja Paisa", which was sweet plantains, rice, red beans, fried pork, arepa, an egg and a soda. All for 8.49. Shared it with a big buddy with a big appetite and we both left full. I loved the rice. Fluffy and perfectly salty. The beans were great too. Perfectly seasoned AND NOT FROM A CAN. The arepa was the only disappointment - very, very bland. It's a clean, yet small establishment. The decor gives me a small headache. Too many intense colors. If I could leave less than one star I would. I come here often and just so happens that today when I went I ordered a bandeja paisa which was on special (I didn't notice). The owner took my order and didn't even bother to mention the special. On my way out I realized it was on special so I told the workers that I would like to take the second one home. (It was buy one get one free). He said no. That he couldn't give me the second one WHEN IT SAYS BUY ONE GET ONE FREE BANDEJA PAISA ON WEDNESDAYS. My food was unimpressive. We ordered takeout, a bandeja paisa and meat empanadas. The chicharrón and the steak were way too hard. The empanadas were mediocre compared to other Colombian restaurants. However, the chorizo was pretty good and the empanada was all right. As for service, the food was ready on time. To sum it all up, the food was not as good as the other reviews led me to believe. My and my daughter ordered 2 arepas mines was with eggs tomatoes onions and it had no flavor. The arepa was too soft. My daughters arepa so an open face with eggs and ham. Her arepa was so hard she had a hard time trying to cut into it with a knife. They added a cilantro Béchamel sauce that had no flavor. Super unsatisfied. I went to this place as I was craving empanadas and it was close...got my empanadas and a Sancocho as well. Bad decision, I put it to go and ate the Sancocho at home...I smelled something weird on the Sancocho but thought maybe it was the spices on it. After I finished eating it I got super tired as if I took some kind of sleeping pill, well immediately I started sweating cold and vomiting all... to resume, I got food poisoning. The menu up top is pretty much all spanish, so grab the paper menu (granted, if you are a usual at this location you probably eat live breath spanish already). My cortadito was extremely cold. They didnt even bother to heat up my cheese bread and when I asked to please heat it up the waitress looked at me like she was doing me a favor. Cheese bread is suppose to be hot or even warm not extremely cold! Even when they did heat it up it was tasteless. My mom ordered the pan con bistec and fries and the fries were undercooked ,mushy and extremely greasing, the steak was paper thin so she was practically served bread with lettuce and tomato. This is my favorite Colombian restaurant! The empanadas are the best I've tried along with the arepa de choclo. I love having a Sancocho or bandeja paisa or I also go here for breakfast and have huevos pericos and pan de Bono. This is the only place that comes close to the food I would eat in Colombia.
