This was once a fine and reputable business but is now the furthest thing from it. What makes a business fine and reputable? Offering a product/service and delivering on that product/service to your customers. In the event that you can't deliver, you refund their money as soon as possible. In early June, 2025, a horseback riding package was purchased to be used on June 14th. We arrived on time and waited at the gate to be let in. No one came. During that time I tried texting and calling and only after waiting for 30 minutes did the owner "Laura" reply saying there's been a family emergency and they can't make it. Fine, life happens, we get it. Given that Quinlan is quite a far drive, we opted for a refund. Over a month later, we're still waiting for a refund. Over the past month, they've given all sorts of excuses (when they finally decide to reply, that is). Everything from new employees, to new systems, to only processing refunds on Tuesdays, etc... and yet over a month later there's still no refund. Like I said above, this used to be a decent business that offered nice trail rides. I'm not sure what's happened to them but they are a shell of the business they once were. It's a shame that it's had to come to this as we've given them several opportunities to make this right and refund us the money. read more

We booked a 3-hour semi-private ride for Monday, January 26, while visiting Dallas from Australia (Jan 22-29). The booking was made well before any winter storm was forecast. Over the weekend, a winter storm hit Dallas. Our hotel was in downtown Dallas, roads were frozen and dangerous, and we were advised not to be on the roads unless necessary. On Saturday night, we messaged Chisholm Trail Rides to reschedule for Wednesday, hoping road conditions would improve. They agreed without issue. By Sunday around noon, road conditions still looked unsafe, so we messaged again asking whether a refund might be possible if conditions did not improve. As we are from a much warmer part of Australia and have no experience driving on icy roads. We did not receive a response. On Tuesday morning, we called to explain our concerns. We were told a refund was not possible because we had rescheduled. However, their website policy does not state that rescheduled rides are ineligible for refunds. Their published Terms & Conditions say: "Regular price riding hours may be refunded if canceled 48hrs prior to the scheduled booking." "Cancellation fee of $25 per person may apply if not canceled 24hrs prior." We were willing to accept the $25 per rider fee, but this was still refused. During the call, the owner asked about our travel plans, and when we mentioned we were leaving Dallas later that week, this was used to say they were not responsible for our plans changing. The reason for cancellation was repeatedly used against us, despite not being part of their written policy. We also explained that driving was not safe for us and we cannot get there. The owner later sent screenshots showing Uber availability. While Uber may have been technically available, it was nearly $100 each way, and given the ranch's remote location, we were also concerned about being able to get a return ride back to downtown Dallas. When we explained that we could not attend the original Monday ride because of ice and snow and police advice to stay off road, the response we received was simply that "they were open," which did not acknowledge the safety concerns for guests traveling long distances. Throughout our communication, the business repeatedly stated that refunds are not available for rescheduled rides, even after we pointed out that this was not part of their published Terms & Conditions. We understand running a small business is challenging, but we were disappointed by the lack of flexibility or consideration given the circumstances of natural disaster. Based on this experience, I would personally recommend choosing a trail ride operator who places greater emphasis on guest safety, flexibility, and basic human consideration during circumstances like severe weather. Policies are important, but so is compassion -- especially when guests are traveling from out of town and dealing with conditions completely beyond their control. Unfortunately, in our case, the interaction and owner intention was much more money-oriented than guest considerate. read more

My partner booked a Valentine's Day ride with Chisholm Trail Rides six weeks in advance. We confirmed all the necessary information three separate times: the day we booked, two days before the ride, and again the morning of. The morning of our scheduled ride, we actually received three separate text messages from Chisholm Trail Rides reconfirming our information. However, when we arrived at the location after driving over an hour, we were unable to reach anyone for about 15 minutes. When they finally responded, they told us they had overbooked and no longer had horses available. They then claimed it was because we had not provided the required rider information -- despite the fact that they had already confirmed our booking multiple times leading up to the ride. To make matters worse, they changed their website after our original booking and tried to argue that we had failed to submit information in the correct place. On the updated site there was a notice about completing a rider log, but that did not exist when we booked, and we were never notified about any new requirement, even though we had confirmed with them three times prior to the ride. After driving over an hour and being turned away because they overbooked, we requested a refund. They refused and said they only offer credits, even though the issue was entirely on their end. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience and extremely poor customer service. Thankfully, our credit card company refunded us, but we would not recommend booking with them. read more

Hi there!! I just had the most awesome trail ride with Zoe as my guide. I rode Blondie, an amazing, sweet mare. I haven't ridden in years so this was my first experience with Chisholm Trail Rides. I booked my riding appointment with Beau. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. He booked me the very next day. The trails were awesome!! Our horses were awesome!! I had a great ride and will definitely be coming back to ride again Getting back into riding has been a goal of mine for years so this is exactly what I needed today. I booked a reservation with Chisholm Trail Rides on January 13th for a ride on January 18th and requested a refund the same day--well within their stated 48-hour cancellation policy. I was initially assured by Laura that my refund would be processed in 7-10 business days. That never happened. I had no choice but to dispute the charge with my bank. (Big mistake if you do dispute a charge with them do it directly through paypal to reduce the parties involved) Because they use PayPal as their payment processor it made the process more complicated and prolonged. They then claimed it was a "miscommunication" and that the refund wasn't initiated until the 21st of January, when I requested the refund on the 13th of January which changed the timeline of the refund. Eventually, we agreed that if the chargeback was reversed, they would give me the refund in cash at a local gas station. We kept contact from there on speaking a few times a month cordially all conducive to resolving this without escalations, bad reviews, or further disputes through PayPal. Once the reversal was confirmed by PayPal, I called to finalize the refund--and was hung up on by Dustin. I called again, only to realize they had blocked my number. When I managed to reach Laura again, she completely flipped the story--blaming me for "ruining" the refund process by disputing the charge, despite our months of communication trying to resolve it amicably. She yelled at me and refused to honor their own policy or promises. This has been a frustrating and unprofessional experience from beginning to end. I've been trying to get my money back for over five months, and they've done nothing but dodge accountability. Beware before booking with them--they do not stand by their policies or their word. They have multiple similar reviews. They cheated me out of nearly $800.00. read more

No, I do not recommend this place. April 24th, 2025 My friend and I were visiting from Michigan and had booked about 30 days in advance (April 1st) paying a 60 dollar deposit each. After calling several times upon arrival we were not let into the ranch until 5 minutes after our scheduled time... noting that it recommends you to get there early, so we showed up 15 minutes before. On the phone it seemed like they were unaware we even had a ride scheduled and said they were stuck in traffic and would be there soon. One of the other ranch workers that finally let us in sat us at a table outside the barn where we waited for 30 minutes for our guide to show up. She said the scheduler on the website is not that great and apologized and said she would get the horses ready asap. (nothing bad about this interaction, she was very kind) Setting the horses up was another 15 minutes... at this point we've pet the dogs and the goats and we have looked at the horses. Then lightning struck and we were told that we had to wait out the lightning for at least 30 minutes, pay the rest of the bill (another 65 dollars) to get a ride credit, or get our deposit back and leave. We waited for another 20 minutes had a good conversation, but ultimately decided we would just like the money back because we are visiting from out of town, but we would be sure to be back when we visit again. an hour later we get a call, it is the ranch saying they apologize, but unfortunately they cannot refund the deposit because "WE WERE ALL PRESENT FOR THE RIDE" I politely explain that we were not all present, you were 30+ minutes late and if it had started at the scheduled time we would have ridden for 15ish minutes and been completely happy. She went on to say, but ultimately it was the rain that kept us off the trail... I said there needs to be an exception because being 30 minutes late was not at all our fault and I asked to speak to the manager above her. She told me she would have her call me. I never received a call back or the deposit. The lightning was unfortunate, but understandable, the lack of accountability that this place had was not. read more

Absolutely wonderful for a confident youth writer wanting to pick up the pace and an adult Experienced Rider also wanting to have some fun. My husband booked a surprise horseback riding picnic with me and my 3 kids at CHISHOLM TRAIL RIDES for my birthday for almost $800. We were trying to save money at the time and I didn't think facilitating 3 kids on my birthday didn't seem like a good time so I asked him to ask for a refund. He asked for a refund and they told him he can have one. If they told us he couldn't have a refund we would've easily just went horseback riding. Well the refund never came and PayPal said it was never initiated by the company. I saw on their reviews it wasn't the first time this has happened and so I contacted my bank and reversed the payment. Well they contested the reversal and said per policy they don't accept refunds in that time frame (EVEN THOUGH THEY STATED THEY WOULD FUVE A REFUND) i wrote a BBB complaint and after that she told my husband when PayPal gave her the money back she would give us the money back at the local buccees so cool I updated the BBB review to say it was a misunderstanding and waited for PayPal to give the money back. PayPal stated that she has been had the money back. So my husband has been trying to contact her. She didn't answer the calls, didn't return messages and hangs up whenever she hears my husbands name when she answers. Today she answered and raised her voice saying "are you blowing me up because you're mad you ruined your chance at a refund" I cannot believe a business is behaving this way. So now I'm out almost $800 and no trail ride? My birthday was in January so we've been dealing with this for 6 months. read more

My wife and I were in the Dallas / Ft Worth area for 4 days celebrating our 38th Anniversary and Valentine's Day. I booked us a 2-hr sunset ride. My wife and I like to ride horses whenever we go somewhere on vacation but it's often difficult to find a stable that (a) cares for their horses; (b) matched horses to the experience level of the rider; and (c) doesn't just have group trail rides on horses you could fall asleep on. The folks at Chisholm Trail Rides did a great job. Since we've ridden quite a bit previously, we were given horses that had some energy! We had a private ride (with our awesome guide Chelsey) and we got to 'let the horses go' at various times which was great! Chelsey was extremely personable and a great guide. I was also impressed that before our little group mounted an left, there was a group of four riders (obviously beginners) that were going out and Chelsey and the other guide took the time to tell them several things that I've rarely seen other stables tell new riders - all of which no doubt made for a better ride. I also liked the fact that they had small packs on each horse with a bottle of water and also room for our coats (it was nice when we started but going to get cooler later) and a small pouch for phones (that's a story for later); I've rarely ever had stables use packs like these and it is very welcome. Our ride was through a 30 acre wooded area with ponds. The ride was great! Just before we finished, my wife realized her phone fell out of her back pocket (she shoved it way down but I guess it fell out when we were cantering with the horses - not sure why she didn't put it in the zipped pocket on the pack ). So, we got the horses in and then Chelsey took us out with the Mule (four wheeled utility vehicle) to search for it. We weren't able to find it and it was getting dark, so we left. When we returned to our hotel, we used the 'Phone Finder' and located the phone. The next day we drove out and asked if we could walk the property to go to the general area - and they graciously said yes. Then one of the managers (she will kill me because I forgot her name - I'm sorry ) came out with the Mule and helped us look on foot. We realized we needed to go back and use WiFi and the earth view to get a better location. As soon as we did, she knew exactly where it was and she went out in the Mule, located it and brought it back. We had the chance to talk to Ashley (the other manager) and she was awesome as well. They gave up an hour of their time today and almost the same amount of time yesterday helping us find it. The ride was great; the area is perfect for riding for all levels; the staff are all super friendly and helpful. I would absolutely recommend them! read more

This is the wonderful place to learn how to ride a horse and the staff make the entire experience so worthwhile! My son and I went for a sunset ride and had a blast! And we never road a horse before. This was a new experience for us. We were met by a team of riders who were experienced and who knew how to put new riders at ease. They beamed with excitement and you couldn't help but feel that they truly loved the service they provided. We had a great ride, which lasted a good amount of time. Once the ride was over, we were set up with a blazing fire by a pond, so that we could grill as the sun set - epic scene! Super impressive! I have ridden here a few times, and each time was a great experience. The trail rides are a good value for the money. I did not feel rushed. They provide a short instruction period for those who may be new to riding. The guides are experienced and helpful. They ride on a large piece of land, so each ride is a different experience. This is hands down the best experience I have had at a trail business, and I grew up on a few different dude ranches. Laura isn't in this to bring in money but to offer amazing unforgettable experiences with her clients. She and her staff tailor your riding experience to you, and ensure a perfect match between yourself and your mount. And they ACTUALLY CARE about the experience itself. We purchased a 2 hour sunset ride for my family of 4 with neither of my kids having any experience on a horse. Within 30 minutes Laura and I agreed that the kids need more practice before an open trail and she offered an additional 2 hr ride for free. Even without that offer I would have gone back. Her herd is obviously loved and cared for, and so are her clients. I will be recommending to everyone I know and will be back as often as I can be. read more

If it goes well, then you will have a good time. However, all of the reviews about the owner not giving a refund or returning calls or emails are true. We were in town for one day and it was a hot one! The owner called me, offered me a discount, to continue on the ride and we would shorten it due to the heat index. Any communication to see about the refund has gone unanswered. I think the part that seems distasteful, is the owner talked to me in February when I booked about how honest she was. And she called me to offer the refund but in practice, it didn't pan out. I think "trail ride" might be a bit generous. The route we took is down her gravel road, past some other houses, and then back again. On the plus side, the staff working with the horses were great with my young daughter. read more

I booked a ride 2 weeks in advance for my birthday and was told my credit card would be used for a hold until the day of the ride. I called them to confirm the ride for 7 straight days before it and NO answer. On the morning of the ride, just an hour before it was supposed to start, they told me it would be cancelled due to rain the day before. By this time I noticed they already charged my card. I asked for a refund and they said only the owner could give me one and they would call me back. I have called dozens of times since and no answer - and now their line is no longer accepting calls/they disconnected their number. I called, emailed, sent a message through their website, commented on a photo on their Facebook and sent a message through Facebook. I finally heard back from them once I left a negative review on their Facebook page. They wanted proof I tried contacting them. I sent them all the proof I had and never heard back. I finally contacted groupon to get my money back. The manager of Chisholm trails contacted me to ask of my riding ability. I responded and didn't hear back from her until 2 weeks later. This was a very disappointing experience, when it was meant to be a fun new experience on my friends birthday. However, we were left short handed by no refund by the owner after they called to cancel our ride. We took steps in advance to fully understand what the outcome would be to bad weather when we initially booked, and the owner told us a reschedule or refund would be available. When they called us to cancel our ride not even 24 hours in advance so that we could come up with an alternative activity, they also gave us the run around about the refund. All of their contact numbers are currently disconnected and I've been calling them for one week straight, everyday, and texting them multiple times. Fraud has been reported to our credit cards and I'm hoping everyone reads this before booking. BEWARE they will ask for your credit card to put on file but won't charge until you ride, however, they did charge our credit cards and did not refund! As someone who is an experienced rider but hadn't ridden in 10 years, I feel that I picked the best place for a trail ride. The horses were patient, calm and gentle and the trail offered a beautiful scenic Texas view. The first ride was led by Sydney and my second booking was led by Dallas. I had such a great time that I booked another ride for my inexperienced husband to come along and ride with me. The booking process was easy and communication was great. The guides had great conversation, but also allowed me to be in my thoughts and enjoy the silence; a perfect balance. You can expect that they give you a brief and helpful horseback riding lesson in the area before departing; this also warms up the horse and allows you a few minutes to bond with the horse. Lastly, they sent me off with a couple bottles of water and snapped a few pictures of me/us to make sure memories were captured which I appreciated. Bonus: I enjoyed seeing the chickens, goats and sweet dogs roam free at the property entrance. It was a true authentic experience and plan on making this visit a routine thing when visiting Texas! read more
