We've now visited Chiselled Grape on two occasions. Charles has served us during each visit and the owner, Allen has been present mingling about. Charles has a fun personality and really adds to your experience. He's very knowledgeable and knows how to put a pitch out for a particular wine. Chiselled Grape has a fun vibe and Charles and Allen are definitely part of that. They are refreshingly genuine and forthcoming with their feelings and suggestions. Some might call that rough around the edges, others appreciate a person being who they are and not just trying to make a sale. My wife is more of the wine drinker but I'm down every now and again. Chiselled Grape has something for just about everyone. The added complimentary charcuterie was a nice touch to our December Friday night in Cedarburg. read more

The owner, Allen is an ASSHOLE. He talked back to me when entering the bathrooms and tried to push me into the bathroom. SO RUDE! Since he wants to change how he responds to reviews here you go... Allen you did not once say "do not go to the bathroom together". I'm so sorry there's ONE bathroom in this establishment and decided to join my friend inside as we simply wanted to go as quick as possible. Allen, is the one that assumes we did it for other reasons. The bathroom was so clean and smelt great. Charles, our wine expert was absolutely incredible. I think if you asked Charles how we treated him he would not mention how the "younger generation has a sense of entitlement". The older generation (Allen) feels a sense of entitlement such as bossing and saying nasty comments to his staff. Yes, we heard you, Allen. What a fun place to enjoy a wine tasting! I was in Cedarburg for a girl's weekend and we planned to do a tasting at another winery, but it closed at 5pm on a Saturday... we went across the street to Chiselled Grape and had the best time! The owner is a huge personality and extremely knowledgeable about wines (he's a sommelier). He went out of his way to find the best wines for each of us which was really fun. You certainly do need to have a good sense of humor -- I love sickly sweet wines and he did tease me about that, but it was all in fun and each of the samples he gave me were to my taste! The setting was nice, music was fun and we just had an all around good time! I'm excited to go back in the future! read more

The owner of this business, Allen, Should know better than to keep his business open when he doesn't have the mental capacity to do so on a day of such a big festival. Upon entry, he was yelling at a staff to go clean up towels and annoyed at the fact that he had to move some tables around. He also doesn't want people to use his bathroom. I would definitely take your money elsewhere. There are MUCH better places to ENJOY wine. It won't be here. I will happily take my business elsewhere! I do wish I clicked on the one star review area of this business before we ruined what was a wonderful day today by going here. SO many reviews reference the owner and how he ruined their experience. I also notice his responses to these reviews. It looks like he copes with getting such a bad review by making mean comments to what once were paying customers. We have done tastings the past five years at chiseled grape and our reservations outside have always been honored. I made one for this year's wine and harvest festival for the porch. When we arrived today they said their reservation system overbooked outside and said they have no control over it and does it often. Therefore, we would have to sit inside. When I said I booked this over two months ago one of the managers said you and a lot of other people do as well. He also said this is one of their busiest days of the year and there was nothing he could do. I get that but why didn't anyone call me to tell me that and why was someone else's reservation honored over mine? The manager was very rude and didn't even apologize. Luckily the server we had was very nice and then told us someone just canceled and was able to have us sit outside. If you know your reservation system isn't working, don't depend on it for accuracy for the "busiest day of the year". read more

We visited here about 2 months ago and I'm still unsure about how i feel with this experience. We walked in and very overwhelmed with the loud welcome from EVERYONE. Everyone else seemed to be having a blast- the new owner told us about the wines, his wines, and of course his awards for those wines. I feel like the prices are a little steep for a glass ($10) or tasting ($16 for three tastings) - we decided to split a tasting since we were headed home soon and didn't want too much wine. It was annoying when the owner kept making comments that we were "cheap" and really getting two tastings. I assume he was joking but doesn't make for a great experience when he continued to bring it up. He and his assistant were drinking wine throughout the time we were there- they were a little loud and maybe we weren't in the mood at 3:00 pm for all that energy. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it though. There are pretzels/chex mix/combos to snack on throughout the tasting. But, if you aren't spending enough don't ask for more combos as they will verbally judge you for that as well.... I enjoyed the "Sexy" wine but I don't think it is worth $50ish that was being charged- however, others were buying it so some people do. It was a unique experience and we laughed about it afterwards - just probably won't be returning anytime soon. read more

We recently took at trip to Cedarburg, visiting from Chicago. A nearby shop owner highly recommended Chiselled Grape, and being a native of California we were eager to check it out. It's hard to say which we loved more, the wines or the owner Allen... because both were excellent!!! Allen is a riot and we loved both of the red and white wines. The server from the bar was very friendly and we found them very accommodating considering we didn't have a reservation on a Friday night. I highly recommend checking this place out if you love "real" non-sweet wines and are in the area. read more

After a wonderful experience across the street at Cedar Creek Winery, my friends and I walked over to Chiselled Grape in hopes of finding another Cedarburg gem. We were greeted with resistance by the owner due to not having made a reservation. We were happy to be flexible and work with them to be accommodated - or leave if there wasn't any space for us. We travel in groups quite frequently so we know that we are taking a risk when we try new businesses. We were informed that the Winery was a "destination/experience." Overall just not a great first impression of the establishment and felt very unwelcome. Our server Ben was attentive and kind and made the experience worth the trip! He was informative and patient and worked so well with our group. We were also closed out & gone before the time they said they needed us to leave. We also, at one point, noticed the owner pointing at us and seemed to be talking about our group. The entire situation was oddly hostile and we felt unwelcome from the moment we walked up. I would recommend going to Cedar Creek Winery just across the street. They were able to accommodate us without a reservation & were kind and welcoming to our group. *****In response to the owner's comments. There was 7 of us, not 10 - and we would have happily left if you didn't want our business. And yes, we certainly were accommodated- but not without hostile and condescending commentary. First time visitor to the quaint midwest town of Cedarburg. My husband is fulfilling a Physician assignment for 10 days a month for 5 months with a local hospital. So I flew out to see Milwaukee and explore the surrounding areas with my husband for a long weekend. Upon entering the tasting room we were greeted by an enthusiastic individual introduced himself as the sommelier and winemaker. Some of the wine Alan serves are from the region where we reside in California, so naturally we mentioned it to Alan, who seemed a bit annoyed towards us after that and accused my husband of being rude at one point which was completely uncalled for, Nonetheless, we didn't make anything of it (We're originally Midwest folks)... Alan is a flamboyant character, who loves the spotlight...interesting story he shared about how he landed in Wisconsin, of all places. There is an underlying bitter vibe he may not even realize he carries along with him. My advice to him: whatever it was you left behind in California, bring more of it to Wisconsin! Maybe a little Palm Springs action like " An evening in Drag" Alan seems he would excel and it would be right up his alley... A wig would be an easy fit on his beautiful bald head If you're reading this Alan, You absolutely own your corner of the market! Your wines are exquisite! Our overall experience was well received. Most people scoff at the idea of wine in Wisconsin. This fairly new winery in Grafton will certainly dispel all feelings of ill, well, unless you overindulge. The winery set up shop in an old school house building in Grafton, Wisconsin. Due to regulations on signage, the building does not have a large sign to direct you in. Instead, look for the large "Open" flag on the corner of the lawn. There are bistro tables and chairs waiting for you inside or an intimate arrangement of armchairs around a coffee table. For those driving or underage, they do have some non-alcoholic beverages for purchase on site as well. Within the past couple of weeks Chiseled Grape added several new wines to their lineup (as well as sold out of a few of my favorites like the 2005 Barbera). I had an opportunity to sample them yesterday and that is what earned them the extra star in my book. Not only did I have a glass at the winery, I also came home with three bottles. They now have a 2011 Maréchal Foch Reserve. The grapes used in the bottle I sampled were grown in River Hills near Glendale, Wisconsin. It is one of my favorite cold weather grapes. This bottle was full-bodied and very rich. The 2008 Nebbiolo Blue was spicy and delicious as well with notes of oak. The 2010 Merlot's peppery flavors will accompany something herby and roasted in the very near future. My glass of the night: 2010 Cabernet Franc. It was light and peppery/spicy that was a great accompaniment to conversation with a friend. Tasting Details: 4 complimentary tastings and $6.00 per glass. I feel they pour generously as well. Bottles of wine are a great value here as well. They have weekly specials ($2.00 off per bottle) and quantity discounts. The average bottle price for the wines I enjoy is approximately $12.00 per bottle but tastes MUCH more luxurious than the connotation of the price point. On several occasions the owner has also been in house. He has always been friendly and gracious, along with the rest of the staff. This is certainly a great place to stop when in the Land of Oz(aukee) county. Other items of note: - The parking lot is VERY tiny but there is plenty of street parking. If you opt for the lot, do yourself a favor and back into a spot for easy exit. - If you plan for a large group or tasting, I recommend calling ahead. They do reserve the space for parties and have patio space available in the summer. They typically have only one or two staff members available to assist, so the heads up would help them plan to serve you better. read more

Fun place on the north end of downtown Cedarburg! The wine tastings are half off during the week. Wine tastings consist of 4 different samplings. Everything I tried was delicious!! According the server, the Chiselled Grape does not carry the typical sweet wines. However, there are wines that would satisfy all on the menu. Wine can also be purchased by the glass and bottle. Bottles can be taken home or opened and consumed at the tasting room. They have very classy seating inside as well seating on the porch and several tables outside in the grass. This is a fun place to visit if you like wines and have never been to a tasting room and also would be a great place to entertain guests. I learned a lot about the Chiselled Grape wines and felt it was very reasonably priced for the experience. I defiintiely recommend visiting this tasting room! read more

My wife and I, and another couple entered chiselled grape winery. My first impression was the place is small and cramped but is very nice inside. Alan, the owner is a very energetic ray of sunshine! My wife asked to see the wine list and Allen replied by saying, "I'm the wine list." My wife told Alan he should think about creating a wine list. To which Alan replied to my wife, "shut up, I got this." I was really taken back by that. What kind of business owner are you if you are talking to your patrons like this??? Our group are not wine "connoisseurs" but we are not "newbies" either, and we like to read about the wines that are available. Alan told us he doesn't keep a list because he has way too many wines to put on it. So each of us described our palettes to him and he brought us wine that he thought we might like. I can tell you the three choices he brought for me were dead wrong. Hence, why I like to pick out my own wines from a list. You get three generous pours for $16. This is steep for my liking. When I go to a wine tasting I don't mind paying for the tasting but I don't want three generous pours of what Alan thinks I might like. What I want out of a wine tasting is, as many tastings as possible so that I can pick and choose afterwards which wines I want to buy and take home. The wait time between pours was 10 to 15 minutes. Alan was definitely understaffed for the patrons he had at his winery. We were able to get his attention twice between pours but you could tell he was becoming irritated with us. Allen came back to finish our pours but he became very condescending towards us, and he said the wine tasting was on him tonight. I got the impression that our group was just wasting his time and he really wanted us to leave. During the wait time between our pours I noticed at least eight other patrons walk out with absolutely disgusted looks on there faces. I also noticed that Alan is extremely flamboyant and hugs everybody who leaves his establishment whether you are male or female. I don't think any business owner should be hugging their patrons after only meeting them 30 minutes ago. THAT IS JUST CREEPY!!!! The rest of my group walked out of his establishment and I put $20 on the table. I stayed back to talk to him. I just wanted to give him some advice and a little bit of constructive criticism. I asked him to hear me out and he wanted nothing to do with me. He told me he doesn't need drunk groups of people coming in here thinking they know what wine they want to taste or drink. Alan is not a people person unless of course you are a "wine snob" like he is. I will NEVER be back to chiselled grape winery and I will make sure that everybody I talk to knows exactly what kind of person he is, and establishment he runs. My wife and I had a day date where we were going to go to a couple of wineries in Cedarburg. We always saw this place but never stopped in. We decided to get a quick sample before going to the next door neighbor. Well, we never made it any place else because we had such a great time here.
