I was so relieved to know that I had finally found someone who could help me with my pain and manage a new way of life for myself. However the person that works at the front desk, Lucy, will be the reason he has lost me for a new patient. On my initial visit, I walked in the was barely greeted and was given an attitude as though she was being terribly bothered by walking in the door. There was no smile and no warm greeting whatsoever. It is a reminder that when people walk into a chiropractic office it is because they are in critical pain and they should be greeted with a warm smile and compassion. She has none... Then as I was getting ready to leave she informed me that their office is out of network for my insurance and that I owed them $95! In the initial paperwork, they asked for insurance information and if the insurance is out of network or is not covered then it has been my experience in offices that the patient is informed as a courtesy. I called the office this morning and immediately she was on the defensive and said that she does not call the patient to let them know that information that it is the responsibility of the patient to know everything before they walk in the door... Part of that may be true, but my insurance covers chiropractic... It would've been a great courtesy if they had let me know they we out of network and I could've made other arrangements to find someone in network. This was a referral that I was given to go to this office, and she, Lucy, is ruining any possibility of new clients for this office. I would not recommend anyone to go to that office just because of her and the doctor would do well to address the situation and make necessary changes if he feels his business would benefit from it. I know one thing... I will never go back to that office again no matter how much he may have helped me someone like her can make all the pain come back again in an inadvertent way!

Tom Dutcher is as good as it gets when it comes to Chiropractic care…read more I started seeing Tom around 2005 after a major snowboarding accident. With four bulging discs C4-7, I was in fear on of herniating. I literally felt numbing in my fingers. I went three days a week for a period of time and some physical therapy. I believe in the healing that Tom provides. He is very spiritual in how he educated you about what he is doing and how the body reacts to movement and treatment. He doesn't force an adjustment. He is methodical. Needless to say, I've recovered fully. I didn't need to have any fusion. I see Tom periodically as needed. Lately it's been maybe four times per year, if that. And I travel over an hour one way to see him now that I've moved away from Portland. I refuse to see anyone else. Thanks Tom. You are the Superman of Chiropractors. And a stand up human being. It's been an honor knowing you all this time.

Our family lives on the west side and doesn't hesitate to make the commute to Broadway to see her. If you're looking for a lifetime chiropractor for a chronic condition, have had a recent trauma experience and need physical therapy, or just need a check-up to work on your posture and learn some stretches to keep your joints and muscles in order, give her office a call and she'll fix you right up.

She incorporates many different types of treatments into her care plans and considers all aspects of your health. Yes, this includes adjustments and soft tissue work. But it also includes diet and nutritional plans, food sensitivity testing, exercise therapy, and many other treatments. She is dedicated to her work and is always referencing new studies and research. It is wonderful to have this kind of resource in Portland, OR. She has helped me deal with chronic pain issues. And my husband goes to see her -- another doctor had suggested he might need ankle reconstruction and bunion surgery. But through Dr. Amelia's treatment plan he has not only eliminated surgery but has even begun running again. (Something he never thought possible.) If you are looking for someone who can approach your pain holistically, this is who you want supporting you. She has flexible hours and I never have to wait to book an appointment when I am in pain, as she blocks off time for urgent care needs. I highly recommend her.

While I absolutely love the staff at Pure Life, Dr Pelley, Savannah, Sam and Dr Kenyon, I am…read moreterribly disappointed by the changes the owners recently made to their services. They have opted to remove the doors to the treatment rooms in order to speed up treatments and move more bodies through the clinic. This takes away any privacy patients once had to discuss personal medical information during their intake. It also takes away a sense of safety for their treatment. A nervous system cannot move into a healing state when it feels like it needs to be on guard in a room with no door. When I reached out to the owner about my concerns I was told that "change is hard" and that "anyone who has experienced trauma will be referred to a therapist that can help them with that." The problem is that we have all experienced trauma and continue to on a regular basis. And receiving bodywork like chiropractic is something that should be done in an environment that feels safe to the body and nervous system. Everything about these changes is saying profit over people and it has left a bad taste in my mouth. Unfortunately I no longer feel comfortable recommending the clinic to my friends and community. I will continue to go see Dr. P and team for now because I am still hoping the owners will see what a huge misstep this is and will choose to listen to the feedback from their patients. I also opted to write the yelp review because I have sent multiple emails trying to explain why this choose is so incongruent with true healthcare and every single time I was told that the changes are there to provide better care for their patients. I would love to see the staff happy again and receive care in a safe environment.

To be clear, this review is about the MANAGEMENT (Looking at you Dr. Melanie!), not the staff. The…read moremanagement has decided to take the clinic in an uncomfortable at best, and harmful/HIPAA violating, at worst direction by REMOVING THE DOORS from the chiropractic rooms. The only explanation that has been given? Efficiency. When I hear efficiency, I understand that profits are being prioritized over people. And if the LACK of privacy and BLATANT DISREGARD for trauma-informed care were not enough, management has decided not to tell patients when their preferred provider is out (that's not how INFORMED CONSENT works). I had an appointment scheduled with the life-changing Dr. Pelley (love). I was in a room without a door, facedown, with electro-stim on my back, in traction when I discovered that Dr. Pelley was out and that I was expected to see Dr. Melanie WITHOUT MY CONSENT. I only discovered this because I couldn't hear Dr. Pelley's voice (you can hear EVERYONE'S voice when you DON'T HAVE DOORS) and asked a staff member about it. They said that it is no longer clinic practice to inform patients about provider absences, and that patients are now expected to see whoever is available. That's not how trust works. That's not how consent works. How can I trust someone with my healthcare and wellbeing when I can't trust them to understand the importance of doors in a healthcare setting? I left without seeing her. The staff are not happy. The patients are not happy. Make it make sense, Dr. Melanie.
