Our journey to Chiropractic First began almost a year before we actually arrived to the clinic for our screening. I believe it was God that led us to Dr. Freddie So as our family was in need of help. Here's our story ..... As a courtesy to Shannon, we agreed to accompany her to her first report expecting to see the x-rays of a relatively healthy young woman. We were shocked to find that she had a reversed spine and wondered if perhaps that may have been the cause of her inability to walk or run for very long periods of time. She also suffered from migraines due to a school yard accident when she was 6 years old and now depended on Advil to relieve the pain. After watching the video and listening to the doctors as they explained the causes and implications of untreated subluxations, we began to realize this was the type of health care we had been searching for and that the whole family deserved this opportunity to give our bodies back the ability to self-regulate and heal themselves. Michelle, our youngest daughter, had suffered from severe chest pain since she was a baby. As an infant, she would lose the colour from her extremities until her little body turned charcoal black, and would cry for hours from the pain associated with this occurrence. We took her to many pediatricians but no one could make a diagnosis. It was suggested that the problem may be the result of poor circulation but no one knew how to help her. So without hesitation, we decided to begin her chiropractic care hopeful the adjustments would restore healthy unrestricted communication between the brain and the circulatory system. We knew we had made the right decision when her x-rays also showed her to be in Stage 2 - 3 with a reversed spine ..... just like her sister. My husband, Steve suffered a massive stroke four years ago leaving the right side of his body numb and insensitive to changes in temperature. His recovery has been slow and steady, however, we had been told that very little improvement could be expected after this amount of time had past. He was taking aspirin far too often for his headaches and backache. His x-rays indicated that he was in Stage 3 - 4. As for myself, we had come to accept the fact that I would not be able to work much longer since I had been diagnosed with Lupus arthritis a few years ago and was now finding it more difficult to do even the simplest tasks each day. The pain was often overwhelming and interfering with my enjoyment of life. My husband had tried many times to convince me to see a chiropractor, but I didn't believe anyone could help. Medication was prescribed and the possibility of surgery was discussed in order to manage the pain and keep me mobile for as many years as possible. I was determined to find a better way. We are happy to report to you that after only 4 short months, everyone in our family has shown remarkable improvements in our health. Michelle's chest pain occurs approximately once every other week and is much less severe than the previous three to five episodes a day she was experiencing before her chiropractic care began. Her posture has improved to the point that our family members are commenting on how well she looks. I was first introduced to Chiropractic First when one of my kids heard about lunch at Cora's with Dr. Freddie. We spoke after lunch and worked out a plan. I suffer from fibromyalgia, MS Sinusitis, neck pain, migraines, headaches, and upper and lower back pain as well as many other continuous problems with my body. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1993 and MS in 2004 (but should have been caught sooner) and I had suffered with neck pain for 40 years getting worse continuously until I started receiving care at Chiropractic First. I had first relied on pain medication to control my discomforts and I used to try to stretch everyday but it ultimately became too painful without the use of other medications to control the pain, so I wallowed in my discomforts a lot. Since receiving care at Chiropractic First I am a lot happier now due to the help I have been given. I am in a lot less pain and a lot less discomfort. My posture is also better. I thought because I used to do ballet that my posture was good but it wasn't as good as I had thought. I learned about proper posture and it seems everything I was dealing with has improved or at least lessened in severity. I seem less stressed and more energetic and I use a lot less medications. I now understand how my spines health affects everything. I used to think if I just tried to keep my posture straight I'd be ok - boy was I wrong! If you are out of line you can't possibly feel really well and the neck roll that Dr. Freddie gave me really helps keep me inline between adjustments. This process has changed my life because I used to have a tremendous amount of neck and upper back pain which has improved very much. Depending on my activities my neck can be thrown into a subluxation again but Dr. Freddie fixes me right up! I first heard about my chiropractor a little over a year ago. He had spoke to a group of mothers at the Burlington Resource Center. My wife was so impressed by everything he had to say. She wanted to sign up the whole family. My response to this could not be printed here. My back was fine. Her back was fine, as for my kids.... well, this seemed like a scam of epic proportions. After much convincing, I reluctantly agreed to attend an information seminar. There was really nothing to lose! Everything presented that night made sense. Subluxations start as early as birth. They interfere with the nervous and immune system - interference like this can prevent the body from staying as healthy as it should - and slow the healing process from any illness or injury. Pain is the last sign that the body has a problem. All of these points made sense. However, as I explained to the chiropractor, I am a results-oriented person. To believe, I would have to see results for myself. Well, here it is a year later. I am not only a believer, I am a cheerleader! I used to catch every cold or virus that was going around the office. I would feel horrible for 3 - 4 days, often missing work, and operating at less than 80% efficiency (some times for up to 2 weeks) when I did return - something that can be very costly to a commissioned broker. Now, even though I feel some of the ailments coming on, I rarely get sick. I may feel a bit run down for a day or two but then I am back at full speed. Also, I have not taken a sick day since April! My immune system is stronger than I can remember - and the speed at which I bounce back is incredible. On a daily basis I have more energy to give to my work, my kids, and my life. I had the pleasure of meeting Chiropractic First at Oakville Place Mall. The compassionate explanation of how they could help me drew me in for an evaluation. I used to suffer from extreme sciatic back pain and experienced loss of mobility to the point of being unable to exercise or even walk my dog without help. I'm 24 years old and had to use a cane many days just to get around. I had headaches and other minor aches and pains. I was constantly stressed out. I tried a few other chiropractors; however, they would concentrate on pain relief rather than corrective care. This would result in short term relief but the underlying problems didn't go away. I was first introduced to Chiropractic First when I came across the clinic on dealfind.com. I was already interested in Chiropractic Care and the clinic was close to my work and offering a great introductory promotion. Before receiving Corrective Chiropractic Care I used to suffer from on and off again neck and back pain for a number of years which was caused by more than one car accident (not my fault) and also suffered from poor posture (okay, this ones on me). I have been under chiropractic care for about 18 months now and I can honestly say I'm in much better health than I've been in the last thirteen years. I was told about Chiropractic First and Dr. So by a patient Pat. As we began talking and comparing health complaints, she described her adjustments and how much better her health was compared to when she first started. I did not think seeing a chiropractor would do very much to help. I had so many complaints. Each time I made an appointment to see my G.P., I had a new ailment which I hesitated to mention because we were still trying to fix the old ones. When I first came to Chiropractic First I was desperate for a solution that didn't involve medication or death. I literally felt that my body was slowly dying and I was desperate for somebody to help me. I suffered with severe headaches, nausea, back pain, fatigue, asthma, and periods of depression. The doctors had put me on anti-depressants for some time but nothing eased the depression or chronic fatigue. After crying out to God for help a friend referred me to Dr. Emilie and subsequently to acupuncture with Martin. I truly believe they were my answer to prayer. I never knew how badly subluxations could affect your body and make you so sick. Sports became a fun activity and for the first time in a long time I could actually run up and down the field without having to take my inhaler. Although I felt relatively healthy when I began care with Dr. Freddie, I was also aware of the important role that my spine and nervous system play in my life and I was seeking supportive, preventative and proactive care to reach my optimum level of natural health and wellness. Living a healthy life has been a commitment of mine since birth, as my parents are both believers in the body's ability to heal itself naturally. Recently it has become a larger focus for me as a Registered Yoga Teacher. After years of various yoga teacher trainings and classes, I discovered that having a healthy body is what supports a creative and inspirational mind. You only get one body and it gives you the ability to manifest all your dreams and goals. Without it you can't pursue much, so taking care of your health is essential. Making those choices to eat well, think positive, getting your adjustments and exercising all add up.! As a teacher, daughter, friend, and sister, I often felt a need to sacrifice my own health to help others and would leave myself last, like so many of us do. It's truly an art to balance it all.! My spirit was strong but my body was weak, despite all the yoga and lifestyle changes. I was first introduced to Chiropractic First in 2012 when I would occasionally drive one of my friends and her two daughters for their adjustments. I had always found the staff warm and welcoming. Prior to coming to Chiropractic First I had received injuries from mountain biking, and from accidents at work and at home. I decided to start Corrective Chiropractic Care after I started getting tingling sensations down my arms and hands, and involuntary leg spasms. I had also suffered from sinus headaches and neck stiffness. I had a lot of complications with the medicine happy "modern" health care. Since receiving regular Chiropractic Care I no longer reach for pills to cover the pain, because there is none!!!! I sleep better!!! My stress levels are lower!! The tingling in my hands and legs has stopped!! My energy level has also increased!!! The Report of Findings class was very informative. It helped me to understand my x-rays. Also, the workshops that the doctors facilitate are very informative. This process has changed my life! It has made me more aware of how my posture affects my life. My husband, Greg Hatton, heard the Doctor's presentation in a weekly BNI meeting. He asked me to give the office call, even though I was very much against seeking further 'chiropractic care'. The care I was receiving seemed to be 'locking' my body tighter and I was not able to move any better, actually less. I have had chiropractic care for about 21 years without much improvement. I had originally gone to a chiropractor due to untreated whiplash causing migraines in my college years. I immediately started with the 'flying seven' adjustments. In my whole span of chiropractic care, I've seen three different chiropractors and each used the same technique. At Chiropractic First the doctor assessed me due to the structure of my spine, etc... and had my first x-rays to actually see what going on in the inside. After asking some questions, I started treatment about 3 months ago. I could start to feel little improvements such as being able to feel the seatback across my upper-back and shoulders. I also didn't feel like my head was sticking forward as much as before. I can move a lot easier. In the beginning of November, I went on a short-term mission trip to Guayaquil, Ecuador. I had to take a backpack with me each day and though I know the backpack was heavy, the items in it were necessary for the daily tasks at hand. I first met Dr. Ron through a booth he had at Wal-Mart. For many years I suffered from neck pain, lower back pain and numbness in my arms. I also had difficulty sleeping and trouble turning my head due to neck discomfort and I experienced many headaches due to this. I had first tried registered massage therapy but found that it only helped relieve the pain for a short period of time and didn't help solve the cause of the pain so the pain would keep coming back. Since receiving corrective chiropractic care within 2-3 adjustments I noticed an improvement in movement and a decrease in discomfort. I now have no pain or discomfort when I move my head and neck and I'm sleeping so much better. I've also noticed an improvement in my range of motion and have not had any headaches! Since coming to Chiropractic First I am much more aware of my posture throughout the day and am consciously improving the way I sit at work and while driving. I have also learned stretches and exercises to help speed up my body's healing. This process has changed my life because I'm much happier now! I was first introduced to Chiropractic First when I won a free spinal check-up at the Oakville eco-festival. I used to suffer from low back pain for 10 years since I injured myself back in 1989. I had tried Chiropractic care in 1989 but it was different than the care I receive from Chiropractic First. Back then I was looking for a quick-fix. Through Corrective Chiropractic care I am now pain-free, and am now reversing a lot of the damage with Dr. Freddie's help. Before coming to Chiropractic First I had explored many different types of therapies. I had tried supplements, diet, yoga, reflexology, meditation, acupuncture, and therapeutic touch/reiki, amongst other things. When I became a patient at Chiropractic First several years ago, it wasn't because I was IN NEED of chiropractic care; it was because I was looking for a solution for my (step) son Brady's chronic nosebleeds. I remember meeting Shauna and being invited to attend a free seminar on this very topic- it was an eye opening experience. I began my journey to better health with chiropractic care last year. I began to learn the ins and outs of chiropractic and how a misaligned spine affects every part of your overall health and well being. Before receiving corrective care I had poor quality sleep, lack of energy and my hands chronically shook. A year into care, all of these symptoms of poor health have greatly improved. The number of hours of sleep I require per night has decreased because the quality of sleep I have throughout the night has improved immensely. My constantly shaking hands, which I was told was 'hereditary', has decreased by over 50% and is still improving. Also, after going to my optometrist for my yearly eye exam, my vision has improved and my prescription lessened. For a person who has needed glasses since the age of three, that is a wonderful thing!!! The knowledge I have learned here began with chiropractic care, but encompasses so much more. From workshops held here at the clinic, the Extreme Makeovers and weekly articles, I have been exposed to valuable information that has made me ask the question...Who was making decisions about my health? Why was someone else making these decisions for me? I took control of my health, beginning with educating myself on nutrition and what I was eating. I made the decision in January to become vegetarian, give up coffee and limit my sugar intake. It was the greatest decision I have ever made. Your clinic came to my workplace during our health and safety week. It was then and there that I began my journey to proper posture and health. I had been searching for relief from the incredible tension I had in my upper neck, back and shoulders. My hip constantly gave me problems when walking. Even more alarming was the numbness and tingling pain that began at my left shoulder that spread throughout the left side of my back. I put up with this for 7 years! More recently I had been experiencing neck pain. I was becoming accustomed to the pain. I had tried pain medications, muscle relaxants, massage therapy and physiotherapy to no avail. Even the most minor subluxations can lead to pain and the inability to perform simple tasks. My management of stress has been phenomenal. My husband and I had been struggling with infertility for 2 1/2 years. Freddie suggested that I come have my spine checked and shared with me how a patient of his had recently gotten pregnant shortly after she started care. I got to know Freddie and his wife Shauna through our church, The Meeting House. I didn't know anything at all about Chiropractic, but was anxious to try it. I had already been through so many painful tests and procedures and even surgery with the diagnosis being unexplained infertility. I really trusted Freddie and thought even if it couldn't help my infertility, it couldn't hurt. I really liked his approach too, that he did the adjustments but God did the healing. I was introduced to Chiropractic First through the Burlington Sound of Music Festival where they had a booth set up. Prior to coming to Chiropractic First I suffered with chronic lower back pain and pain in my shins. This chronic pain limited my mobility at work (bending, lifting etc.) and other daily activities such as playing sports (baseball). I was unable to fully bend over to touch my toes without discomfort. I also could not transition from a bending position to standing or sitting to standing and vice versa without feeling stiffness or pain. Before receiving Corrective Chiropractic care I never tried to seek help for discomfort or pain. I tossed aside the notion that I may actually need corrective chiropractic care. I would just brush off the pain. I "learned" to live with it.
