It was time for our breakfast... yes, breakfast outing for the week. We were going to head elsewhere, but they were having a problem with the gas in the kitchen. So we headed to Middlebrook as we had shopping to do and there are plenty of food options there. Once there we walked up to the level with most of the restaurants and saw a board saying that Chiquito now served breakfast. Unfortunately there wasn't a breakfast menu on display outside, but we saw a number of people inside, so we decided to give it a go.
To be honest, their breakfast menu has one Mexican themed breakfast whereas the rest is your standard breakfast and that was a bit disappointing. I was kind of hoping there would be more Latin American Breakfast options. Love black beans, plantains, tortillas, and eggs. It is a very satisfying breakfast! Anyway, if you order breakfast with a hot drink, you get free refills on your hot drink. Great for a coffee addict like me :)
There was only one waitress, as I am sure they don't really expect to be run off their feet for breakfast, but it did mean waiting just a tad longer, especially for our bill because she had to do prep for lunch. Unlike some of the other Chiquito locations I have been to, this one felt the most Latin American than North African in decor and ambiance. I ordered the Mexican Ranch Eggs and Mr. Snarky stuck to the Breakfast Feast... 3 bacon, 3 sausages... lots of food!
When our food came out, mine came on one of those cast iron skillets on a wood trivet (like fajitas) and I thought it would be very hot, but it was lukewarm. A bit disappointing. However, the food was delicious! The Mexican Ranch Eggs have a tortilla on the bottom topped with chorizo, black beans, cilantro (coriander), corn, jalepenos, onions, and salsa. Then on top they put two fried eggs. The menu said it comes with cheese, but mine didn't. However, because of my lactose intolerance, it was probably for the best. For those of you a bit skeptical of it, it isn't very spicy, in fact, I had to enhance it with the hot sauce on the table.
Mr. Snarky enjoyed the Breakfast feast and seemed to enjoy it all, ok not the mushrooms or tomatoes... I eat those. To be fair, the mushrooms were quite nice as they were quite large and not sopping wet as they are at other places. He was quite impressed by the sausages... not necessarily how they were cooked, but the fact that they tasted quite nice and seemed a better quality than most.
Our waitress was very friendly and even chatted with us while we were paying the bill. As we were leaving, she did stop what she was doing and thanked us for coming in. Overall it was a pretty good breakfast and potentially a regular spot for us. read more
