If you're looking for big city quality dining in the Iron Mountain area, you've just found it. You must be a member or with a member to drink or dine at the Chippewa Club, but if you enjoy good food and either live in or frequent the area, I'd highly recommend it. The food is almost always noteworthy, the service is excellent and the place has a very cool, classic atmosphere. The type and quality of the food I've had here is unlike anything I've been able to get within at least 45 miles. From appetizers (like the pan fried southwestern crab cakes, served with a salsa remoulade and avocado mouse), to soups (the Baked French Onion is always awesome), to salads (they have a surprisingly good berry salad, with huge seasonal berries, pecans, mandarin oranges and mixed greens, served with a raspberry vinaigrette) to entrees like their popcorn crusted scallops served with homemade butternut squash gnocchi. Popcorn crusted scallops? Yes! And it works brilliantly. And of course, steaks, fish and all the staples along with some other fun stuff. Last but far from least, the bar area (where my wife typically start and end each meal) is totally vintage with fixed post swivel chairs and a sunken bartender area. The Chippewa Club, Iron Mountain, MI Is TOP NOTCH! Chef Bobby is truly talented! From a wings and beer social to a prime rib special dinner, all is delicious! The Mother's Day brunch, including the Christmas and New Year's Eve parties were FABULOUS! Have a dinner party planned or one just appears unexpectedly, call Lynn with the order and Bobby is sure to impress you and all your guests! My husbands words " Happy wife, happy life", so yes reservations and catetering is one of my specialties! My favorite establishment with living in Suamico is Chive's but weekends is the outstanding Chippewa Club! So, enjoy the Berry salad, French Onion Soup, Scallops, shrimp dishes and all desserts of course! The fact that a place with this good food is in the UP ups the star factor. After a couple of drinks at the bar while chatting with the hospitable locals (one of whom bought the three of us a drink), we had a gourmet meal that I simply did not expect in these parts. We have had dinner here several times over the summer and have never been disappointed. The food is prepared perfectly, and service is timely and gracious. The ambience formal, welcoming and relaxing. This is a wonderful hidden secret in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Cannot think of any other place where I would rather dine while on the UP. read more
