From the moment I walked in, the service, atmosphere, and overall experience were top notch. I ordered the skinny margarita and it was SO good that I obviously had to have more than one . I also got the School Tacos, which were really tasty and hit the spot. And then, to my complete surprise, there was a short live performance with a guy doing tricks with fire rods (not sure what the official term is, but it was pretty damn cool). Definitely not something I expected when I walked in for dinner! If you're staying or working around the Orange County Convention Center, I'd absolutely recommend making a stop here. Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere, and a fun experience that I wasn't expecting. Definitely a must-visit if you're in the area!

Our server was very helpful and the food came out super quick. Restaurant decor was very pretty, lots of bright colors and interesting artwork. We ordered a pitcher of passion fruit margarita for the table. Pretty good and affordable for our party of 4 to split and get 1-2 drinks per person. For starters we ordered the chips, guac, ceviche, empanadas, and street corn. These were my personal favorite items. Mains ranged from steak tacos, birria tacos, enchiladas. Many of the entrees include rice and beans as well. In our opinion the mains were a bit of a miss. Found it surprising as we ordered some very standard items but the flavor was lacking. It could have been a fluke late night who knows. All in all a decent stop if you're in the area but there are likely more affordable & potentially tastier options.

I made reservations but we ran a few minutes late due to Lyft snafu The staff was very nice about it and took us to a small lounge booth. We discovered she was also the manager and was very nice. The server was friendly and was training someone new, so we weren't too bothered by the lag time between ordering and also getting our bill. We ordered a Watermelon Habanero Martini to start. It was delicious! Sweet and a mild kick. They provided a medium salsa and basket of chips. I really enjoyed the salsa since it is more minced and mildly salty but just the right amount of heat. Then we ordered the Queso which is not standard melted cheeses but a thick and stretchy cheese like when you do a mozzarella pull when it's piping hot. There were a few types of chips and pretzels. My friend and I shared the 4 tacos. She had 2 mushroom tacos and I had one grilled fish and one carne asada. The fish was tender and flaky. I wish I had asked for the flour tortilla since I'm not a big fan of corn tortilla but it was still flavorful. The carne asada was also good but not spectacular. We wanted a light meal before going to see Harry Potter at the Dr. Phillips Center so this was the perfect meal. It filled us up just enough. I would definitely come back. It was not too busy since we came before the dinner rush so it was a great experience. I hope they keep up the consistency!

The mole enchiladas are absolutely incredible--rich, savory, slightly sweet, and packed with flavor. You can tell the mole is made with care, not poured from a can. Every bite tastes homemade and comforting. The restaurant itself is simple, cozy, and full of character. I especially love the Frida artwork throughout the space--it adds a fun and welcoming touch. Sometimes the best meals come from places that put all their effort into what's on the plate, and this is definitely one of them. The staff is wonderful and genuinely makes you feel at home from the moment you walk in. I'll happily trade fancy for authentic mole enchiladas, friendly faces, and a homey atmosphere any day.

The fajitas came out without the sizzle of the skillet (disappointing but not a deal breaker) and the chipotle chicken was overly salty. We love the table salsa and could not find them in the restaurant to ask for more until our food was delivered. But after that, we never saw them again. 5 Star update because this is still my go-to for exceptional tacos from a family-owned business!…read more(pro-tips: 1) get the fish taco immediately, 2) bring your vegetarian friends) I've been coming to Black Rooster since they first opened, but had to update my COVID-era review (because those times were straaange). I'm a creature of habit and am thankful for a restaurant that stays consistent in terms of quality and experience! PLUS, my husband and I can both find tons of options to eat here (not always easy when you're married to a vegetarian!). The vegetarian friendly options include their black beans, smoked greens taco, plantains, kale caesar salad, kale salad, BR nachos, and of course the chips, salsa, and made-to-order guac. My absolute faves food-wise: - The Smoked Greens taco. I'm not a vegetarian, but this vegetarian taco rivals any of its meat compadres. Made up of kale, shiitake mushroom, plantain, onion, ricotta cheese, and cilantro, this bad boy is smokey with that perfect little addition of sweet from the plantain. Truly a favorite! - The Black Rooster Asada. It looks pretty simple- some brown meat with cilantro on top. But don't let it's appearance deceive you! It's actually filled with seared beef, apple wood smoked bacon, Oaxaca cheese, chile poblano, onion, cilantro, 3 chile-tomato salsa. Because all of the ingredients are tossed together you get a wallop of flavor, with that basic look. She's not ideal for a colorful taco Instagram pic, but she's got more flavor then you can imagine! Spice level- Mild/Medium - Fish Taco. For a more picture-worthy option, this one's got colors upon colors! Crispy beer battered and local, pickled cabbage, remoulade sauce, avocado, cilantro, radish mean it's green, white, orange, purple, etc etc. She's a looker, but the flavor is there to back it up. Without a doubt this is my favorite fish taco in town. - Cilantro Poblano Rice. We love a green rice, and I could eat this on its own all day every day. Don't miss out on this often-overlooked side! Overall, a really wonderful business featuring great ingredients (including house-made tortillas). (and you can order delivery right from their website!)

While we were eating, the owner came over around 11:15 and barked, "Time to go--leave, leave, leave," as if he were chasing animals out of his restaurant. To be clear, I have no problem with being asked to leave after closing. The problem was the owner's arrogant, aggressive, and humiliating way of speaking to paying customers. We were not loud, causing trouble, or refusing to leave. One polite sentence would have solved everything. The most disturbing part is that this was not an untrained employee--it was the OWNER. That means the disrespect comes directly from the top. He was happy to accept our money at 10:50, but twenty minutes later treated us like garbage he needed removed. Good food cannot compensate for an owner who shows this much contempt toward his own customers. There are plenty of taco restaurants in Orlando run by people who understand basic manners and appreciate your business. Spend your money at one of them. I will never return to Black Rooster Taqueria, and I strongly recommend avoiding it.
