This is Portland's apple orchard. Only being 15 to 30 minutes outside of the city (depending on where you're coming from), it's the closest and easiest to get to. This is a no frills orchard: pay for what you want to pick (for a peck it was $14), mostly the trees are macs and corts, you can walk right into the orchard or get a tractor ride down to other trees on the weekends, there's real apple cider available for sale (for a quart it was $3.50), maybe some gourds in a pile. Easy peasy. If you were looking to make apple picking a quick part of your day and not a full on event, Randall Orchards is exactly what you're looking for. Minimum of $5 on cards. (SIDE NOTE: They love and respect others local farmers and other orchards in southern Maine; we appreciated having a heart to heart with an employee about some of the unfortunate closures that happened this year.)

I stopped in after searching for Hop Water and saw on the Hop Water website the Good Life Market sold it. I arrived about a half hour before close so I was one of few customers and ended up buying a ton and wanting more. First, I found a 4 pack of beer that had JUST been released in Burlington VT and then Portland ME (collaboration beer) and immediately grabbed it. Absolute score! I was super impressed with the beer selection, both refrigeratorated and on the shelf, plus N/A options, hop waters, mixers, you name it. Before I even made it to the beer section I was drawn to the prepared food because I was hungry and knew I would have to prepare something when I got home. I got smoked ribs (probably a half rack) for $11.99, Cole slaw and a broccoli bacon salad. They had multiple refrigerators and freezers with everything you can imagine, frozen Slab pizza, health drinks, locals meats, local ice cream, etc. I noticed a huge wall of local coffee so I will be going back to hopefully find espresso beans, which are challenging to come by. I didn't notice inside seats but that would be a good addition. For the ribs, I wrapped them in foil and baked at 350 for 20-30 minutes. I was so happy to find real food, prepped for easy reheating. I will definitely be back with my husband to order sandwiches and pick up more goodies.

These two items are highly recommended. This market also has some fresh produce, several cheese options, interesting snacks and pantry items. Stop by and support local whenever you can!

The Lucy family, who own and run the orchard, are incredibly kind and welcoming, which makes the whole experience feel personal and special. They offer u-pick apples with several different varieties to choose from, and every tree this 2025 season is loaded with beautiful fruit. There's also a wonderful selection of pumpkins for sale, plus fresh apple cider that pairs perfectly with the crisp fall air. It's clear this orchard is cared for with love and attention. It's not crowded or commercial--it's family-owned, relaxing, and has the kind of charm you don't find often anymore. I can't wait to start baking apple crisps and pies with what we picked, and the apples are perfect for dipping in maple butter. If you're looking for a peaceful orchard experience with great fruit, friendly people, and breathtaking views, Douglas Hill is the place.

Get your pick on!…read more Had a fantastic time with the family picking early season raspberries, apples and peaches. The orchard grows a ton of different apple varieties so there's good picking during the full apple season. We got to choose between Zestar and Jerseymac apples during our visit. I'm a big fan of crisp and tart so the Zestars fit the bill. Peach picking was a bit of the same only fewer varieties. Raspberry picking was a fun new experience. You're essentially hunting and the fruit that is ready to be picked will slide off their cone-like cores. Since it was early in the season most of the berries were small or immature and there were a ton of bees buzzing around. I mean a ton where you'd go to pick and they would be buzzing around your hand. Don't worry though! The bees are friendly and indifferent to your picking the fruit. Just be gentle. Pro tip: come on a day where there's a breeze. We went on a still day in August and it was hot! 90 minutes in the sun and we were feeling pretty crunchy.
