Behold, a little piece of China in the heart of Glasgow... you could go as far as to say it's our very own wee Chinatown. Just a stone's throw away from our old flat, you could spot its towering Chinese archway from the window.
It's a multipurpose facility, with a restaurant, bakery, small businesses, and a grocers towards the back. It's reminiscent of other Asian shopping centres I've been to in other areas of the Western world... but on a much smaller scale. Upon entering the building, it's a bit bleak, and on the occasions I've been, it's a bit vacant. However, I normally just beeline to the back. I primarily go to the grocer, where I stock up on authentic oriental groceries and cookware. We got a good wok for about a fiver, and massive bottles of Kikkoman soy sauce and other sauces. It's a wee shop, but chock-full of authentic goodies, including fresh produce. Even better, they stock the cookies/biscuits (Yan Yan and Meiji Hello Panda Cookies) I would eat as a wee girl accompanying my mooma to the Asian supermarkets... nom nom nom!
Bottom line: off the beaten path in the City Centre, wee shop with various oriental groceries, and reasonably priced. read more
