How could I not have reviewed China Restaurant in this quaint town of Deming? The restaurant itself is small and at a corner of the streets in a small, quaint town. It was one of a few options of Chinese/Asian restaurants in town, so there weren't too many options to choose from. So, if you are stucked around town and craved Chinese food, chances are...this restaurant would end up being your pick. The food was ok, a bit on a pricey side. The taste was just fine. From my perspectives, compared to other Chinese places in other larger metros/cities, this place wouldn't stand a chance to compete. But..given it was a place in such a small, very low population town...it served its job of helping tame my craving for Chinese food. Try it if you are stucked in the area/town and this can help you a bit with your Chinese food craving. read more

Ordered here in the past while driving through Deming, lunch time and it was good. Ordered last night and it was the worst ever! I called in an order of beef fried rice, and egg rolls, the guy told me they only come in three so I said ok. The order was over $21, I should have said never mind. I showed up 15 min. Later and there was only one guy cooking and he was also taking orders... the back kitchen was dark, well the whole place was dark, except for the register area. Another guy was waiting for his order, he finished his gave it to him then asked me if I was picking up, I said yes. He took my payment and said, "5 Minutes". I was worried because the place smelled like burnt grease. I trusted it would be ok as I ordered in the past. I returned to my hotel room and my truck smelled like burnt grease and later my room would too. I proceeded to eat my food and I was very disappointed, I couldn't finish it! The rice was like wild rice, had that burnt taste, no eggs or veggies and a few slices of beef which didn't have much taste to it other than grease. It was after 7pm and they were closed so I couldn't return it, I called and he answered again and proceeded to say "takeout order?" After I tried to explain to him my dissatisfaction and the quality. I felt as if he was just not wanting to accept responsibility for just throwing out a crappy meal at the close of business. The egg rolls were hard, burnt and plain right out nasty! Like they were cooked earlier that day and just reheated by throwing them into unclean grease! Never again, I travel through Deming quite a bit and this has become a bad experience for me! read more

This is one of the most difficult reviews I have ever written. While staying the night in Deming, I had the urge for Chinese food. There are two Chinese restaurants in Deming and I chose China Restaurant. It is located on Pine street just east of S. Gold Ave. there are plenty of available booths and tables but the gist of the matter is that you order your food and take it home. The restaurant has a distinct aroma, not as pleasant as I would like. Still, since previous reviews mentioned this, I decided to forge ahead. The cook took my order and had it ready in less than 5 minutes. It took a while for him to understand what I wanted as his English is limited. The meal did not come with rice, that option costing at least $2 per meal. Taking it back to my motel, I was amazed at how delicious the Szechuan Beef was. It was a bit spicier than I was used to but the removal of most of the jalapeño peppers made the spice level perfect. The beef was melt in your mouth tender. The sauce was perfect. Truly the best I have ever eaten. I should take off a star due to the aroma and ambiance but the food more than makes up for the five star review. Give China Restaurant a try. He gave us large portions that came in take out containers. My dad nor my sister had complaints about their food. I did substitute fried rice for white steamed rice. I love this place! What that one fella can pull off is amazing! I always get the same thing; the honey walnut shrimp and an order of the house fried rice. It has beef, chicken, and shrimp along with the other fried rice goodies! The portion is huge good fore 3-4 meals, of rice alone! Remember, closed on Mondays but we take out every time. Drove through Deming and saw this restaurant. Very delicious food! Tried Kung Pao Chicken, egg roll and steamed rice. I added a bit more chili oil to add more spice. Would definitely eat here again. I had family visiting. I ordered $73. worth of food to go. We got it home, started eating, and my nephew found a cockroach in his Mongolian beef. I called the restaurant in outrage, and demanded my money back. They switched me to "the manager," who would only tell me his name was James. James said if I wanted my money back, I would have to return all the food. I live 25 min north of town, so I was furious, but looking back I can see his point. He doesn't know me. So I bagged it all up and brought it back. There were only two employees, a man and a woman, both cooking and she was also waiting tables and taking cash. She didn't speak English, but through gestures she tried to get me to exchange food, to order something different. Like I would ever eat from that kitchen again. Eventually they gave me my money back. It's sad, because this used to be an amazing place with fantastically good food. read more

I don't want to slip this to three stars because the food is still excellent, but the little things add up. The strawberry chicken used to include jalapeños and peanuts (see the photo), now it's just chicken, strawberry slices, and thick fruit syrup. The fried rice was just rice--no vegetables, egg, or anything else. I called ahead to ask if they had gone back to table service since COVID, and was told no; when I showed up I asked if they were ever planning to go back to table service, and the sweet little Chinese nana (who was nearly impossible to understand, especially when she kept insisting on addressing me in Spanish) said sure, we could have done it. Eventually, I figured out that they won't serve you at one of their tables, but you are welcome to eat your takeout there. read more

Very good Chinese! Although this Restaurant has changed owners throughout the years it has consistently been good. My family has been eating here for decades although the ownership has shifted periodically the food has always remained good. It is economical and you receive a ton of food for the cost of a combo meal. Each dinner is probably enough to feed 2-3 people. The plates do not come with rice. BUT the white rice is only $1.00! The service is speedy. The servers are friendly and kind. The only downsides - the parking is complex as you either have to parallel park or park around the corner and walk. Also, there is one wall of booths and this restaurant is not huge. But somehow I have never had to wait for a table and there are always various diners enjoying. read more

Stopped here on a road trip. The serving sizes were gigantic! The egg flower soup and hot & sour soup were really good. Also had the chicken and vegetable dish which was good. Husband said the general tso's was just okay. Our server was great! read more

Stopped in while in town for a medical appointment based on the Yelp reviews. Really looking forward to enjoying Chinese food because my husband doesn't like it. Was going to be a nice treat for myself. However, I get there and go inside and sit down and they tell me they're not serving dine in, only carry out. No sign on the door and no update on Yelp. This place is amazing!! I come from 50 miles away to get take out from here. It's been my go-to places for years and the owners are so friendly. Portions are HUGE and tasty. They recently had to close the dining room because they could not find employees to work so it's just the owner and a cook working the restaurant. Currently, everything is for takeout only. I ordered the General Tso chicken and my wife had the Kung Pao beef and they were really not that good. Mine had some super red sauce that tasted a little off and no broccoli. The Kung Pao was not good either. It had al lot of sliced jalapeños which was a first for us. The entrees were quite large and were definitely enough for multiple meals. The big surprise was when I was checking our order just after leaving the restaurant and discovered they forgot to include the rice with our entrees. I returned to let them know and there was a bit of a language barrier but after confirming multiple times with the woman in the front and the cook from the back it appears rice is not included. The food was good but I found a piece of shaved metal about an inch and a half long in my food (which if it had been smaller, I likely would have swallowed accidentally). Next time you wander South to the plethora of hot springs surrounding Deming and Silver City, you MUST stop here. We ordered Chicken Lo Mein, Mongolian Chicken, Pepper Beef, and Longbow dumplings. The Mongolian was incredibly good. Beautifully sauced tender chicken. The pepper steak equally tender, flavorful. The lo mein was simple but good. The dumplings transported me back to the lovely pork and ginger dumplings I shared with my mom in my youth. You will be impressed with the flavors, the variety, the quality and the portions... I'd heard they were big... But I had to order a few things to try!!! The service is impressively quick and efficient and we very much look forward to coming back to the hot springs in Fall... While staying overnight in Deming on a family vacation, we found China Restaurant as a low cost option for lunch and decided to give it a try based on the 4.5 star review average. The service was very pleasant and accommodating, and the food was terrific. Being from Houston, we are quite spoiled by many wonderful Chinese food options, as well as almost every other type, and China Restaurant was easily as good as our favorites at home. Just went there only because of the good reviews. 1. There is no sanitizer available to customer no where in the restaurant. People use the same pens to sign; and the no one cleans them after the use. ( and we are still in Pandemic and suppose to follow Strict regulations). 2. My order had no (!!!!) napkins! 3. We were given plastic forks without plastic. And right next to the front person there were utensils in plastic bag. ( thus person handles people money, and then forks without washing hands or even sanitizing them!) 4. I saw the cook went to the restroom in the apron. According regulation, you always need to take it off before entering the restroom. 5. Hands down one of the best Chinese Restaurants I have ever had the privilege of visiting. I have been to some of the best in San Francisco and this place puts them to shame. The way the Chef blends the local flavor with the traditional dishes is excellent. I love the Kung Pao chicken. Who would have thought to add Jalapenos to the mix? I stop here every time I come to visit and have never been disappointed. I recommend this place to anyone traveling through or who lives here.
