Food was awesome and the service was wonderful I would recommend t to my family and friends

My husband was looking up China Lantern reviews online which were very positive so we decided to give it a try again since it had been a while since our last visit. We ordered shrimp chop suey, combo lo mein, bacon & shrimp fried rice, 2 pots of tea (jasmine & green). Here's the verdict: chop suey - old school, soupy, and laden with shrimp & traditional chop suey veggies - no surprises & no no-nos (no green peppers or broccoli). Fried rice - competent, nice bacon flavor, has some heat, could use more egg and bean sprouts but tasty! Lo mein - lots of tender meats, good veggie selection, moist, generous portion. The service was prompt! Server was very friendly, prompt, and helpful. Ambience: meh but clean. There is some attempt at Chinese decor but the environment feels more like diner greasy spoon vs. Chinese restaurant. Value: Great due to enormous food portions. Total not including tip = $53 and we took home 3 practically full to-go boxes to eat for dinner again x2. Will return. read more

I come here with my grandparents on special occasions and their food is the best! The service is always great and friendly.

DW and I really enjoyed our meals here. The menu was somewhat novel: it listed eight to ten meal genres, then let you pick your protein. I went with my goto Kung Pao Chicken, which was spicy and delicious. The portions were generous enough that we both ended up taking boxes back with us (unusual for me). We were looking forward to returning a couple days afterward, but got sandbagged by a colleague's food allergy. However, they're on my first-day schedule next time I get to Pueblo! read more

This is a long time place, well known in Pueblo and pretty popular. The venue has about 25 tables. It is a building probably dating from the 1950s. Serving area is clean, with some decent, classic style Chinese wall art. Service was a bit slow because we hit the place right before the suppertime rush. The menu is a mix of mostly the kind of Chinese dishes familiar in the 50s-70s: chow mein, egg foo yung, chop suey, etc., with more updated items that are creative. We've dined here twice. The first time we had the chow mein. It was exactly as I remembered it as a kid in the 60s. More recently, we had 'Hoisin Chicken' and Kung Pao Chicken. Both were competently made and flavorful with perfectly crisp veggies. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the size of servings. One of the best items on the menu is their egg rolls. They are big stuffed full of meat and veggies and fried. Comfort food. We saw some customers just order a pile of egg rolls. We'll definitely go back. For me, anyway, it's a step back to when it was a big treat to go out to the 'Chinese restaurant', but China Lantern has more to offer than just that. read more

The Chinese food is fresh and amazing the costumer service also makes you feel welcomed and like family, it's a very small business but that doesn't change the fact that it is absolutely AMAZINGGG!!! What a lovely surprise it was to find China Lantern. I moved to Pueblo a year ago and really missed my old Chinese food hang out back in California. One of my grandson's coworkers recommended China Lantern and we've had nothing but good food from them. We always get our orders to go so I don't know anything about eating in the restaurant, but their take out orders are tasty, generous and delicious. My personal favorite is the shrimp foo yung, but we've never had anything that was in any way disappointing. Highly recommend. read more

The China lantern has been a Pueblo staple for decades. The food is predictably good and authentic. There are some American offerings as well and offerings for children. Located in the downtown area, it's an easy walk from most office buildings to the restaurant. The wait staff have been working there for years, which are tests to they could treatment they have received from the restaurant owners. You will meet a number of familiar faces if you have any history in Pueblo. The open plan seating allows you to see other diners and degrade them. My family and I like to come to china lantern a lot. It is one of the staples in Pueblo and we've been going there for multiple multiple years. I enjoyed their fried rice, their egg foo yong, and especially their fried chicken. They just have a way of doing the fried chicken that just makes me lick my lips all the time. I do have to agree that service can be sometimes slow and it's very laid-back, but the atmosphere is just something you want to relax and enjoy. I was raised on this place. If you wanted Chinese that was affordable it was the Lantern. When I got my first job this was the lunch place, that's when a coworker told me there fish was good. I have a few places that are childhood memories of joy and dinner that was all comfort food, this is it. There egg foo young is amazing with white rice. The food is excellent but the service Sucks!! If you hate your job that bad it would be easier for you to move on and make the patrons time more memorable. All the wait staff seems to be put out when you ask them for something. Waited for over a half hour just for a drink refill. We said thank you several times to the server and she didnt even acknowledge that. My waitress was very rude and short with answers. Never came to check on us only refilled drinks once. The cups sat empty for 10 minutes before i just got up and got my own. I asked another waitress (an older lady) a question and she was also rude. I don't recommend this place and will never come back. Even if someone else pays. read more

I have enjoyed This food for over 20 years. The staff know my order when I ask for the usual. I have had everything on the menu at least once. It is heavy American Chinese food with a touch of classic diner food. If your a fan of fried chicken you have to try the 6 piece. After a long day this is my favorite treat. read more

Excellent Americanized Chinese Food! My husband and I were stuck in Pueblo for the rest of the day and night - starving, didn't know our way around at all (thank God for GPS!!) and the GPS had this restaurant on the radar for restaurants. The atmosphere is casual, almost like a Chinese food restaurant in a "Denny's" theme. VERY friendly and helpful staff. The menu is very varied with a lot of American Food options. We ordered strictly Chinese food - Shrimp Fried Rice, Pork Friend Rice, Orange Chicken - and it was AMAZING! We actually over-ate to finish our HUGE plates because it was just too good to not eat! I was very surprised that an advertised "Americanized Chinese Food Restaurant" was so tasty! Large portions, small price. With about a 25% tip, our total meal was $30. The 2 waitresses were consumed w their own drama, oblivious to the poor customers, I had a Birdseye view into the kitchen to watch the cooks handle the food w bare hands. It's been a good 20 years since I have been in here, but it was worth it. I can tell by the taste of the food that it is freshly cooked to order, and not made ahead of time. I've had my share of Americanized Chinese food, but this place is the worst by far. Terrible, greasy, overly salty food.
