I've always had good experiences here, which is what prompted me to take time out of my day to write this, especially given the lower ratings I've seen. I think what makes this place so cool is that it's an organic find in the community -- it's kind of like a hole in the wall, even though the location sits in a heavily used strip mall anchored by a busy Kroger. The entire aesthetic of the stores and restaurants in that strip mall reflects signs of heavy use. The food at China Express has always been hot every time I've gone, which I think is due to the restaurant's popularity. What made me notice this is when I got similar food from an establishment at the mall and noticed a distinct difference. And even though the place is busy, and it can be hard to decide what to get on an empty stomach, I find the staff to be patient and willing to offer samples to hungry, undecided guests like me. read more

I was on my way home from the airport. I got hungry and wanted the option for non-fast food food. It was around 1PM! Douglasville was the nearest exit before the long portion of the way home. There are two Chinese spots in the same area here (China Express & another one that starts with an H). I went to the one that starts with an H first and ultimately decided to come to China Express because the food would be out quicker based on other reviews. They both have the same menu items. I did not know that the special was $1.75 for a scoop until I walked up to the building. I was seriously re-thinking my decision! This is my first time trying Chinese so cheap. I also did not expect much for this price. I took the chance... I ordered 3 items: teriyaki chicken (9/10), fried rice (6/10), and bourbon chicken(1/10). The bourbon chicken tasted old. The teriyaki was fresh & flavorful. The fried rice also tasted fresh. This easily would have been 2 stars if none of the meat they served tasted good. If I had to go again, I would only order meats that look fresh (steam from the heat of the pan, glazed w/ sauce, etc) I went to the front bc I thought I had to order from the front however the lady did not direct me to the line first. She was selling the regular menu they had. I did not have time to wait so I noticed that everyone was going to the left hand side where the food was served cafeteria style. I did the same. The lady behind the glass asked me what I wanted and put generous scoops of the items I said & pointed to. the price was definitely as expected! 3 items was totaling around $5/$6 dollars. I was in & out the door for my first visit in less than 10 minutes. The interior has seating and decent cleanliness. No Dust/grime/etc can be seen at first glance. It's just an older place so the restaurant needs to remodel soon to keep with the aesthetics! This place would be 4 stars if it looked better! In short: order in person, go to the lady whose scooping the portions (not the lady at the register), after your takeout has been marked with the # of items you asked for pay at the register. For $1.75 per item, you cannot beat it and it's fast food prices for decent quality and little to no wait time. read more

The fried rice wasn't fried at all. It's overcooked and mushy. Doubt it touched a wok. The soy sauce didn't help. read more

China Express - Shrimp Fried Rice - Chinese Near Me - Douglasville, Georgia

Could not order through Door Dash because menu is not descriptive and there are no choices for sides when ordering most dishes. When I called, the lady couldn't speak any English barely and did not understand anything I was saying. Here's a tip: hire someone who speaks English. Another tip: fix your DoorDash. Absolutely ridiculous. No wonder the reviews suck. read more

The food is really good, but they give such small proportions in addition it's very hot when you go in there but worth the wait . It smells really good in there as well. The service is OK not the best but it's great. read more

This was my first time ordering from this place. It wasn't good at all! I got the wing combo with shrimp fried rice. The rice tasted just like Uncle Ben's parboiled rice, it had only 2 small shrimp in it literally. No flavor, definitely not authentic tasting at all. The wings were very salty. Egg rolls were so-so. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place nor I order again read more

Tasty food and they make it the way you want. No msg is always my request. Quick delivery. Friendly.I

The food here was not good. It had a weird taste and smell to it. I did the scoops and got the fried rice, chicken and broccoli, honey chicken, sesame chicken, bourbon chicken, and the pork egg rolls. Don't get me wrong the price was great but the food was subpar. The broccoli from the Chicken and Broccoli was good and the egg rolls were okay. That's it....... Don't let the price fool you. read more

There is really nothing I can say good about this place except for, well I never have to go back. EVER! It is very deceiving because it's always so crowded but unless I picked the 4 worse meats on the menu then this place is not my cup of tea. Now their sign says you pay $1 per scoop from the bar, so that may be why it's usually crowded. The good points were that it was really nice and clean. There are tables for 16 people to eat inside. There where two kids running around playing. I assume their parents work here or maybe own the place. They were a little loud. But hey, they are kids. I enjoyed the Lo Mein, but the Teriyaki and Sesame Chicken that were on the bar were way too sweet. The Lemon Pepper Wings and the Braised wings that are prepared as you place your order were also sweet. There were two other customers that commented about the food on the bar was to sweet that evening. I will assume from those statements that the food is not always this sweet. My room mate tried this place last week but he got regular fried wings and said they were okay. But when I offered him my two boxes of food, he declined. This meal will become trash tonight. read more

This place is the absolute worse.. after standing in line for 14 minutes to be served, I finally tell the young lady behind the counter that I want vegetable fried rice, and broccoli with carrots as I do not eat meat. I've never had a problem with this in the past, however today she writes a 3 on the box and I explain to the cashier there are only two items in the box. They refused to charge me for the two items which is was I requested because she put more rice in the box than normal. Needless to say, everyone at WellStar will hear about this and my family members that recommended this place. I will no longer patron this place and I guarantee everyone that knows me will not longer put up with this as well. read more

The food was good. We had the sweet and sour chicken with vegetable fried rice and egg rolls. First time going to China Express. Very busy place st lunch time when I went. I asked for a takeout menu because I had someone in the car that couldn't get out. We looked at lunch special menu. I was in the wrong line for ordering from the Menu so I went to the counter to order. The person at the counter said we don't have lunch menu anymore and those are old menus. WTF. Then you shouldn't be giving out menus. The food is good. I just don't like False advertisement . read more

I've eaten these little express shops all over the West end, they're all the same but that's fine. I don't care much to have a different taste when it comes to these little places. Dollar a scoop and you're out. No talking, no bull, one and done. All the food is pretty standard for these types of places, people expecting gourmet food at a dollar a scoop are a little more insane than the people behind the frying pits. It's decent, it's a dollar, if you don't like it, you wasted 4 bucks. read more

Yuck! I was really craving Chinese food and this place was close. It's not really Chinese food it's more like those places in the mall that lure you in with the free sample. They have a dollar menu but it's very cheesy! No fountain drinks Only bottles. Lunch combo unlike most Chinese restaurant does not come with a drink. I ordered from the menu thinking it was going to be better than the deli style food but it was the same thing fried rice was just white rice with some vegetables in it. The veggies were chopped very large and were very crunchy. the sauce was very watery and had no flavor. Oh and the eggroll that comes with the lunch combo was about the thickness of my thumb I had never seen anything like it before read more

Service & quality failure: I was craving Chinese today. I also wanted to just get home quickly. I chose to go fast vs. made to order. CHINA EXPRESS in Douglasville (8481 Hospital Dr Douglasville, GA 30134 in Kroger shopping center) was the worst!!! The lady serving the food was also eating at the same time. Eating Pringles with her hands and filling orders with the same ungloved paws. The woman at the register was twirling her hair. All type of thoughts going through my mind, I paid for my order. Then, I called. Once the lady knew I was complaining she hung up on me TWICE! I'm not done... She calls me from a cell phone and asks did I have a problem... "Ma'am, don't worry about it. I'll notify the health department." Ghetto is a behavior, not a race or place. read more

Maybe the last reviewer should stick with places that serve mac and cheese and chicken wings......definitely ,she doesn't understand how much sugar is used in cooking a lot of oriental food....any who..... This is your standard Chinese fast serve place with a several good twists..... First.....the food is regularly good.Having tried nearly everything that they put out i can say that it's the top end of your standard dishes..General's Chicken,Sweet and Sour,Terriaki,Sesame Chicken,etc...just about everything is served hot and ready given it's high turnover.....is it a five star restaurant?.....no....is it good, basic Oriental food in good quantities?....heck yes!..... Second..The staff is always friendly and even recognizes a lot of customers by face....something that many places that do their volume of business can't say....also they get you through the line quickly if you are on a short lunch.....as per the kids....no problem there....good to see a family run outfit that isn't part of some chain that does their food well... Lastly.....IT'S A $1 A SCOOP......i can FULLY feed my family of 4 ,including 2 teenage boys, for less than $20....there is a reason this place is always crowded, because it's good!!! read more

ummmm a gem? yeah its like eating swet socks out the gym! this place is horrible and the more you go the worst it gets! i have tried it all and everytime its terrible....i even ordered food cooked and never again! the service is terrible and one particular lady makes it her business to have an attitude every time you come in, i even hear her mocking people as they leave, so unprofessional. but im sure with the economy so bad ppl will still eat off their dollar scoop trick! btw my sister and niece got sick the last time they was their and they said it was definitly the last time! read more

I actually like the food there. It's really good and fresh as long as you don't wait until the end of the night when they aren't making fresh food. My family eats there at least 2 times a month and I've never experienced the food being too sweet or bland and we've never gotten sick. My only complaints are that they dump the fresh food on top of the food already on the bar. Anyone with any restaurant experience knows that is a no-no. They also don't de-vein the mexican shrimp that's on the dollar scoop bar (not sure about the shrimp dishes you order off the menu) and they can be very very rude. I tried to order brocoli and shrimp with garlic sauce and they said they only make either shrimp with garlic sauce or brocoli with garlic sauce. They wouldn't combine them which to me was crazy. So I went across the street and ordered it with no problem. Other than that I like it. It's a little too hot in there in the spring/summer but it's clean and the restrooms are too. read more

The food isn't the best as far as Chinese food goes. Their major draw is one dollar per scoop buffet. This evening my daughter and her father went to pick up a carry out order. We had two orders of four scoops which should have been $8.42 with tax but they charged $11.66. When I questioned the discrepancy my daughter's father said while they were being served a woman came in requesting a refund because she had been over charged. Thinking the prices had gone up I called verify them. The woman on the phone confirmed still $1 a scoop which meant we were also overcharged. I explained the situation and my order. She asked what time was on the receipt so she could check the video. I told her 18:57:21 or 6:57 pm. She started screaming at me and hung up. I called back she screamed that she had six customers in front of her I asked if there was someone else I could speak to she hung up again. By this time it was 9:07, they close at 9:00pm. English isn't her native language but she clearly understood me and asked specific questions to clarify my answers. The problem had nothing to do with language but poor customer service. I'm not going to stress over that small an over charge but I don't want to be yelled at over someone else's mistake especially when you took more from me than you were entitled to. read more
