    Must request a table upstairs.

I have been to many restaurants throughout the world and this restaurant was by far a standout. We ordered the $59 pp banquet and also added on the duck pancakes. Every part of the meal that came out was just divine. The portion sizes were perfect and left you excited for the next serving. Service was phenomenal. The waiter knew everything about the menu and knew what wine complimented each dish. Cocktails are so delicious aswell! The price is on the more expensive size but it's definitely worth every cent. Stand out dish was the pork belly and duck pancakes. Do not leave without trying them! I highly recommend China Doll and I will certainly be going back again.

What a beautiful location for lunch or dinner, we had order the $72 per person banquet which featured 8 dishes, steamed jasmine rice and a dessert platter. Our favourites from the banquet would be the Pork belly w Chilli Caramel & Nam pla Phrik, the perfectly steamed steamed cone bay barramundi w chilli garlic and mustard greens. The banquet is a bit pricey, however you are not only paying for the quality food, but the service and the amazing view!

Wow so much hype and conversation led me to book China Doll. I am really sorry but I think I arrived late or something. Let's start with the not so great...I feel like the restaurant is tired. Both in appearance and the style of service. All the waiters were wearing different clothing and were not focused on customer service. There is this thing happening in Sydney at the moment which is super relaxed yet super focused service. China Doll has not got the balance right. Even the bathroom was a mess! Although remedied through a free dessert the blue bandaid dropped on my table during service was not welcomed :/ The brilliant part of China Doll was the good. Yummy Chinese I inspired cooking that left you wanting more! Seriously delicious. The view out to the bay was great especially on the sunny day we were enjoying. I think the restaurant needs a revamp and a new service manager to get all the wait staff smiling, happy and focused on the customer and not their own conversations :)

Set on the beautiful Woolloomoolloo wharf this waterfront restaurant offers fine Chinese in a casual and relaxed environment. The service was efficient and attentive. You can sit inside or out, and we opted to sit outside nearest to the water.... winter time and our comfort was made so by the effective use of the gas heating. Tables are nestled tightly together however the vibe of the place is complimented by this layout. Initially we reacted as though perhaps it was too tight however we soon warmed to the envoirnment. There is a buzz about this place. The food is great for sharing and we certainly took up this opportunity.....we started with the Steamed dumplings of prawns & green beans and the Shu Mai, the pork, prawn, scallop & shiitake dim sims. It felt like we were dining in Asia....they were so tasty. Our mains all for sharing included BBQ Hoi Sin pork rib, the green curry of flathead with beans and the Cone Bay barramundi. We added a steamed broccolini and rice, we feasted on some truly tasty and delicious dishes. The dishes are generous portions so we did not get to the deserts....the mind was willing but the body had had a true indulgence.....we loved the setting, the food was was good, the service was effective and all of us enjoyed the whole experience.

I love the view of the water and boats at this spot, not to mention it's attached to one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at, Ovollo. I got the steamed dumplings which were pretty good, I would steer towards a different menu item personally, but still tasty and well presented! As well as the apple martini with the white chocolate green tea dessert, I wanted to get a better picture before I ate it, but I devoured it very quickly...definitely try it.

The Chilli Salt Squid was really good too, like the touch of the chilli powder and had the perfect amount of crispiness.

And it had absolutely no relationship to the food. It was the stools. The red stools that people sit on. And I got word that they were supremely uncomfortable. I didn't follow up on the critique (made by a friend) and in fact forgot about the restaurant altogether. It wasn't until my partner and I happened to be walking around Darlinghurst around dinner time at a later date that I remembered about the comment (which would surely put a black mark on any restaurant's name). And yet, it was delightful. We were the first ones there - so early in fact that we lingered outside like miscreants while the staff were eating their dinner - and avoided the stools altogether, and instead sat at the two person table further toward the kitchen. We ordered the Beijing Dumplings (lamb and vegetarian), the steamed vegetarian buns, hainan chicken rice and the nyonya chicken and potato curry with two pots of brown rice. Mostly everything was outstanding. The only thing that didn't surpass our expectations wildly was the Hainan chicken rice. The rest was so incredibly good that we've gone back twice since (take-away). The staff were also incredibly accommodating and take note that they have a vegetarian menu as well as a Coeliac one. As for those infamous stools, on our last visit there to pick up our take-away we saw Hugo Weaving sitting on one of them at the far end of the communal table eating his dinner. If it's good enough for Hugo Weaving ..

I am…read moreso glad a friend of mine shared one of hers with me all that time ago because now when I come here I encourage other friends to try them too. Everybody is just as impressed as I am. The fresh prawn rice paper rolls with chilli dipping sauce and Beijing vegetarian dumplings are also staples. The Beef Tenderloin Fillet Fry ($20) is tasty but the Mixed Asian Greens ($10) is uninspiring. The menu is a little pricier than you would find elsewhere and you may find yourself leaving still relatively hungry. But if you order more (like I usually do) or come on a night when you are not incredibly hungry to begin with, then the quality of food should impress you. The restaurant is BYO and also has a coeliac friendly gluten-free menu and options for kids. The only issue I have with this place is the menu layout. I think it would be more successful if the dishes had a bit more description in terms of the sauces rather than just the main ingredient.

The best part of our meal was the bottled beer. The Mongolian beef was not cooked well, it was just soft and soggy in its sauce, which was overly sweet. It came out on a fajita platter sizzling, so truly impressive that it turned out as mushy as it did. There was a lot of potential for that dish to taste better. The stir fried noodles tasted like they had been cooked well at one point, but then frozen, reheated, and rinsed with water to remove any potential flavor that once existed. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty when we arrived, we were seated right in between two other occupied tables, which made it feel like we were all at one big dinner together instead of on our own separate date nights. The people working were very nice - just wish the food was better! This meal was one of our first meals in Sydney and made us really worried that all of our meals here would be overpriced and tasteless - thankfully, there are better options out there.

Close to Town Hall station, QVB and Darling Harbour. I've noticed this place many times walking past with its little fairy lights in its little side alleyway, the shop always full with Asian guests. We all know this looks good to us white guys lol. Finally stepped inside. So glad we did. The smell of good food, the sight of interesting dishes, the chatter of happy eaters, the varied patrons from 7-70, and a price list that made me feel like it was all going to be a bargain all added up to one thought. It's gonna be a good night!! I had already actually eaten before arriving but with the recommendations from a lovely young lady serving, our table had enough food to send my heart and stomach to a place beyond satisfaction. I wanted to keep eating even though I'd had more than enough. My lips were strangely buzzing, no the food wasn't too spicy for me...it just felt..good. The couple beside me put my meager efforts to shame. They feasted. I couldn't believe how much food could fit on their table. Not only that they were tiny. I envied them. My taste buds were dancing just observing their food and the pleasure they took slowly grazing the many dishes. We washed our food down with a pot of jasmin tea. They even offered to refill the hot water. Generous Gosh it was a good night. And a tradition I hope to establish. Settling the bill was almost as pleasurable as dining. Got bang for my buck. Cudos to the older gentleman who I think was the owner. He seemed like a very gracious host. Thank you.

Came Sunday at 9:30, already a quarter full. I had har- gow, chicken feet, trip, lotus leaf sticky rice (lo mai gai). The chicken feet were perfect and the har-gow full and plumb with shrimp. I like the way they do the lo mai gai. Smaller portions, devided between 3 wrappers instead of the usual 2. So you get more filling to rice ratio. Plus they wrap the race in parchment paper before wrapping in the lotus leaf, so it's much easier to peel apart. The trip was a little disappointing however. The flavor was very good but good, but should have been cooked a bit longer, as some of the pieces were still quite chewy. I patiently waited for the egg custard to come out, as they were still baking them. Worth the wait, they were perfect! Light flaky crust, and perfectly light and tender egg custard. Plus, they were the "normal" palm size tart...not those mini ones, that many places switched to, to save money. Honestly, these were the best I have had anywhere! As I was leaving at 10:45, the place was buzzing and almost full. They were also bringing out many more items, such as stuffed bell pepper (with shrimp) and stuffed egg plant (with pork). They also had special carts that would make stir fry noodles or steamed vegy at your table. Makes it feel like Hong Kong, which was the last place I saw these, in the early '90s.

We wanted egg custard to finish our meal and was informed it would take another hour before they would be ready. I guess things are cooked fresh on the day which is good but shouldn't it all be ready by the time you open? The little old ladies pushing the cart were very nice and polite.
