I was on New Walkertown heading back from Ackingna's Place, and decided to head back to town on New Walkertown, an area I rarely visit. I noticed that I was near Eastway And headed in to check out this Mr Lu's. I decided to pickup an order of Shrimp Chow Mein for my evening meal. I've had this several times at the other spot and was always pleased, and I found this no different. This is some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I thought I just had bad luck the last time I…read moreordered so I gave them another try. That was a mistake. The egg rolls were mushy on the outside and the pork inside wasn't fresh... it hadn't expired... it just wasn't fresh. Maybe cooked this morning or even yesterday. The General Tso Chicken was made with low quality chicken. My wife actually spit it out it had so much chewy gristle. The sauce (which was supposed to be spicy had no bite. The broccoli wasn't lightly blanched... it was raw. The pork fried rice had no pork, didn't look fried, had a few undercooked frozen vegetables, and no egg. The pork lomein was the best single item... but I'd still give it a 2 out of 10. If the food was good I can forgive the esthetic of a mostly takeout restaurant... but given the horrible food the atmosphere was the icing on the cake. It's been years since Covid had us putting plastic barriers between us. Three unrelated items for sell. There is a candy vending machine (maybe to save people from purchasing dessert?). There is no culturally aligned Chinese music. And not surprisingly, there is no smell of food being cooked to order. I'm thankful for the pleasant weather because something tells me the HVAC wouldn't be on. Avoid this restaurant. I'll be driving to Greensboro next time I want some average Chinese food over this disgusting joke. I honestly have no idea how their Yelp average is 3 Stars. East China's lunch specials are a GREAT value, and their non-lunch meals are fairly priced too. I usually order a quart of their Kung Pao chicken which comes with rice and then make it last for at least 2 meals or share with someone else at home. I highly recommend placing your next Chinese take-out order here and see for yourself.

The restaurant is named for Kowloon island, across the bay from the city of Hong Kong. Like most, the menu is extensive with dozens of chicken, beef, and pork dishes. At Kowloon, this dish (and others) is cooked to order in a giant, very hot wok. The dinner portion is certainly enough chicken for two. We order a side of pork fried rice and share it. The dish includes some small broccoli florets. The dish also comes with an egg roll. We order an extra one. To start our meal, we ordered a quart of Hot & Sour soup. Just the right kick, fresh mushrooms, bamboo shoots, chunks of tofu, and chicken broth. Served with crispy Chinese noodles. It is really good. I've been eating at Kowloon for 30 years.
