I eat here every time I'm in Colby. The food is pretty fresh unless you arrive when it first opens. There is everything on this buffet from salad, fruit, desserts, various preparations of chicken (my favorite is the Indian chicken), various preparations of beef, and loads of shrimp. The usual suspects are there too like hot and sour soup, wontons, and noodles. The service is good and attentive. The ambiance is a bit kitschy but it works for this strip mall restaurant. While the food isn't traditional Chinese (I've been to China many times), it is good, filling, and reasonably priced. read more

BAD POLICY I took my 10 year old Great Grandson to eat at the china buffet where he ate 3 pieces of India meat and had a small portion of noodles. he also had 2 of the 1 inch slices of cake and a sweet biscuit. So not even one full plate of food. No seconds. They charged me an adult plate for him. it was not busy and they saw how much he ate. I told them he didn't eat an adult portion. they said sorry, it's their rates. 10 and up is adult. The food isn't bad but I'll not be taking my children there again. $20. for a child's plate is just too steep. what if I had 3 kids, 10, 11 and 12? (yes it was actually $17. per plate. but still too much in my book for 3 bite sized pieces of meat and a very small portion of noodles 2" x 1" piece of cake and a sweet biscuit.) use your judgement folks. read more

I love having dinner or even lunch here. The employees are friendly and cheerful. The food is hot and inviting. They swap out trays before they're empty which means we (the dinner) are getting fresh and superior food at all times. I usually prefer to get take-out as the containers used to prepare the dishes are microware safe (NOT OVEN - FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY). I save all of them as I like to prep my meals completely before cooking. Also, these containers are terrific for leftovers. And . . . they can go in the top AND the bottom of the dishwasher. Delicious lucky choice off the interstate in Colby Kansas. Saw billboard for them a couple miles before the exit, decided to give it a try. Nicely organized buffet with all the usual items. Everything we tried was fresh and hot, not dried like it had been sitting there forever. Also many buffets we've tried have bland food, not much flavor, these dishes were all nicely spiced (not hot, flavorful). So good to have a non-fast food option when traveling. A+ read more

Okay, let's start with the positive... Hmmm... I didn't get sick or nothing. Other than that, it seems like every dish was poorly made, and they all tasted exactly alike, as if they had one seasoning combo that was used for every dish on the hot food section. That might be acceptable, if they knew what they were doing, but the seasoning was a mixture of salt and I-don't-know-what. The place isn't huge but in this type of area, it likely wouldn't get packed.There aren't a plethora of options, but enough for your needs and something for everyone. Trying to decide where to eat on the road is always a challenge. So when you fond someplace that exceeds your expectations you have to be happy. I was very happy!!! China Buffet has become one of pit-stop our traditions on the long drive between Denver (where we live) and Kansas City (where our family lives). This is hands down one of the best spots to stop along that whole strip of I-70. The buffet is always well-stocked with lots of options, from meat to seafood to veggies (although the latter is a little lacking). They have egg rolls, wontons, lots of soup options, and a variety of little desserts to round out your meal. It's only about $10 per person, too. I don't go to China Buffet with San Francisco level expectations of Chinese food. I go in with Hays level expectations, and am always delighted. This definitely beats all the fast food options by a long shot, and with the food being pre-made, it's actually pretty quick. A bonus is the adorable kids that are sometimes in there helping out the family or doing homework at one of the tables. Super sweet to see! read more

Lots of fried foods but I was still able to make a nice plate of healthy options. Beef and broccoli was quite nice. Sweet n sour soup was a nice treat. Salmon OK. Ice cream freezer full of choices. Very clean and staff nice. Food bins full on the buffet. Very tough place if you're gluten free. Not too much to rave or complain about. I'm just going to review the service, not the food. The service here was really good. The staff were attentive and very nice. The manager lady (I'm assuming) was very nice as well as well as the younger waitress. I want to mention that the way the manager speaks can be abrasive but it's not her being mean. That's just how she talks. I say that because a lot of people take it the wrong way. You have to realize that English is not her primary language and she's adapting the best she can. Also, people who want to get away with your kids eating free: stop lying. They're just trying to run a business and if they will be losing profit if they let customers get away with eating off of you plate. Just fork out the extra few dollars and pay for your kid. Or hey, get a to go box instead. I don't want to review the food because I think that I'm just not accustom to the style and flavors of the food here in Colby. My family was on a road trip and we found the China Buffet to be very close to our hotel so we decided to try it out. We were somewhat dissapointed by the host as she greeted us and showed us to our table. She seemed unfriendly and failed to get our drink order right. After seating us we never saw her, or any of the other servers, again until it was time to bring the check. Our drinks went unfilled. The buffet selection was plentiful but the food was bland at best. The price was reasonable and we could have eaten until we were full, but it just wasn't that good. The best part of the meal was the multiple selections of ice cream. We wished we had gone to one of the other restaurants in the area but a Chinese Buffet sounded great! It's a buffet, don't expect gourmet food. It's mass produced to feed the cattle coming in to eat. I did moo last night when I was done. I think it's very well done for a chinese place in Kansas. Same two girls are always working, and they are pretty nice. They like to come over and play with the baby. I love their Black Pepper Chicken over rice. Their Black Pepper Shrimp isn't too bad either. There is a pretty decent selection for chicken and beef. Only a couple of veg. dishes; green beans, beef/chicken broccoli, and then onions and bell pepper mixed into a bunch of the dishes. They have regular and fried rice and chow mien. Egg rolls and crab rangoons and a few other fried things. They do have muscles which I haven't ever tried, kinda scared of quality out here. They have fruit, pudding, cookies, all the normal stuff at a china buffet. They also have a mini freezer with 6 different types of ice cream (self serve) and not soft serve. Used to go here as a kid with the family as it's a buffet and I remember the food differently. The wife and I ordered food to go passing through Colby headed back to goodland. I got orange chicken and she got the sesame chicken, order of crab rangoons and spring rolls. The crab rangoons were delicious, the only problem with them is there was no crab at all, just cheese. Spring rolls were alright. The wife sesame chicken was subpar at best, crunchy yet lacking flavor. The orange chicken I got tasted like fish all around, then in the middle of my food in a piece of "chicken" guess what was found? A literal fish bone. I fish quite often and filet my own fish so I know what I'm saying when I mention a freaking fish bone in the middle of my "orange chicken". F****ing disgusting and will not go back. Why wasn't the golden tapei open at the time? Never going back. I give it a 1/4 star. read more

So I've been having wicked cravings for a Chinese buffet. I drive here from Goodland (35 minutes) just to come here. My family and I were seated sort of quickly and our drinks brought right out. My biggest issue with any buffet is the temperature of the food. In order for food to be 'safe' it should have an internal temperature of AT LEAST 135°. Think about it, room temperature is about 70°. This food was warmer than some places I've been. I waited till they brought a new batch out and got a couple of my dishes then. I had trouble finding the fried rice, then thought to look in a rice cooker. Duh. The food was not labeled, and the few that were were not correct. That's a bit irritating. The sweet and sour sauce was too pineapple-y to me. The floors, tables, silverware and dishes were clean. We never got a refill on our drinks. Would I come back? Yes, but only because it's the only buffet anywhere near me.. read more
